ICCBS-Karachi University owns financial transparency and global stature

Karachi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Financial transparency in the administrative matters at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi is unquestionable, as all institutions working under the umbrella of the ICCBS – University of Karachi are regularly audited by the relevant audit authorities, and represent the best examples of prudent financial management.

Similarly, performance audit and evaluation of the center are routinely carried out by the top foreign scientists. The ICCBS – University of Karachi is the academic research institution, which is truly regarded as a national asset and deserves to be appreciated by true academics. However, some people intentionally or unintentionally are trying to discredit the country’s leading academic institutions having international stature, which is really a matter of concern for every Pakistani.

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, and COMSTECH Coordinator General, expressed these views while speaking at a press conference held at the ICCBS – University of Karachi on Monday.

Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said that the ICCBS was an academic research institution with the primary mission to train scholars at the post-graduate levels (M.Phil. /Ph.D.). He said, “The ICCBS comprises three institutions, including H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, and Third World Center for Chemical Technology. Two of them were established from the private sector donation.”

The center has been able to win international and national grants which is undeniable proof of its excellence, he said. Refuting the claim that ICCBS – University of Karachi was established for the discovery and development of drugs, he said that this academic center had been working as an academic research institution with the prime task to train scholars at the post-graduate levels. The graduates of the ICCBS are serving at top positions in industries and academic institutions home and abroad, he said.

He also mentioned that the faculty of the international center have received more honours and awards nationally and internationally from home and abroad. It is unfortunate that some people are writing against this world-class institution and trying to malign an institution that is the recognition of Pakistan in the world of science, he said.

Talking about the achievements that the international center acquired during the last few decades, he said the center was recognized for its high-quality research reflected from the fact that the works of the scientists and scholars had been cited over 300,000 times in the last five years. The academic and research contributions of the center are openly presented on its website (www.iccs.edu), he said, adding that this center has triple recognition of UNESCO Center of Excellence, WHO Collaborating Center, and OIC Center of Excellence.

A large number of foreign scholars are visiting the center for training, including from western countries, he said. Along with academic excellence, this institution is also serving the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries through Industrial Analytical Center, the Center for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research, as well as Sindh Forensic DNA Laboratory, he said.

The center has played a very important role in the national flight against COVID-19, he said, and maintained that the National Institute of Virology, the only institute in the field of viral diseases, has conducted over 0.35 million COVID tests, monitored the genome sequencing of delta variants. Prof. Iqbal Choudhary also refuted the false allegations by Dr. Tariq Banuri that he was removed from the position of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman because he had questioned their research output.

He lamented that HEC had subtracted more than Rs200 million in its annual grant for the center. However, grants worth over Rs850 million have been decreased to Rs650 million, he said, adding that the grants were diminished despite increasing wages and inflation. The support which ICCBS received from the government is far less than similar centers in India, Iran and other countries, he said. He said, “ICCBS – University of Karachi believes in transparency therefor this institution has always been ready for audit.” The performance audit of the institute will be welcomed if it would be conducted by eminent scientists of international repute, he said.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari upholds right of women activists to hold peaceful demonstrations on March 8

Karachi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed solidarity with the Aurat March scheduled in front of National Press Club in Islamabad tomorrow on the International Women’s Day and wished them success in their struggle for the achievement of their rights long denied by a patriarchal mindset.

In a statement today the Chairman PPP also expressed concern over reports that the Islamabad city administration was reluctant to allow the women exercise their right to peaceful assembly on the pretext of the PPP long march that will also descend in Islamabad tomorrow. Bilawal Bhutto further asked the local authorities to not hinder the planned gathering of Aurat March on any pretext whatsoever.

The PPP has always stood by the side of the women and marginalized sections in fighting for their rights, he said adding “their causes and PPP causes are the same”. He said that under the Constitution peaceful assembly was a fundamental right of the people and under no circumstances or any pretext this right should be abridged or curtailed. He commended the women for their struggle against discrimination and assured the women of Pakistan of full support of the Pakistan People’s Party in their struggle against all forms of exploitation, discrimination and a patriarchal mindset.

Acknowledging the “great strides made by our women in their forward march towards gender equality and making Pakistan more tolerant, harmonious and secure”, the PPP Chairman said that PPP will never allow the perpetuation of discrimination against women and their exploitation in the name of religion.

The PPP therefore upholds the right of women to hold their planned peaceful demonstration in the federal capital tomorrow March 8 in front of the National Press Club and urges the administration to not create any hindrance whatsoever. “No matter what the odds the women of Pakistan are fated to succeed in achieving their rights”.

Puppet Imran has 24 hours to dissolve the assembly: Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

Karachi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the puppet Imran Khan is harming the people of Pakistan even at the end of his rule by starting a dispute with Europe. Pakistan has billions of dollars’ worth of trade with Europe. Hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis work and live in Europe.

Chairman Bilawal said this while addressing a huge crowd which had gathered to welcome the Awami march in Gujrat on Monday afternoon. He said that there is only one slogan from Karachi to Gujrat and that is “Go Selected Go”. This has now become the national slogan. Every promise and slogan of Imran has proved to be false. Now, he just has 24 hours left to resign and dissolve the assembly so that fresh general elections are held.

Chair PPP said that selected Imran is in power not due to the people of Pakistan. Imran is known as ‘selected’ all over the world. This puppet does not deserve to be a prime minister because of his incapability and incapacity. He changed the name of BISP to Ehsaas thinking that he would be able to erase the name of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He cannot erase this name from the hearts of the people. This selected has economically murdered the labourers, farmers, youth and women.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP is the party which always helped the country emerge from difficult situations. When President Zardari came to power in 2008, the world was faced with one of the worst recessions. Even then, he provided relief to the people of Pakistan by the initiation of the BISP, increasing salaries of the people by 120% and pensions by 100%. This puppet gives relief to the rich and troubles the poor.

T20 World Cup champion Australian Women’s Cricket Team immortalised in art at the Melbourne Cricket Ground

Dubai, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The legacy of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 Final has been forever immortalised, as the Melbourne Cricket Club commissioned, with the support of Cricket Australia, portrait of the world champion Australian Women’s Cricket Team was unveiled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) last night.

Two-time Doug Moran National Portrait Prize winning artist, Vincent Fantauzzo, Melbourne Cricket Club President Michael Happell alongside World Cup winning squad members Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux and Delissa Kimmince, were on hand to reveal the artwork – a ‘team of the century’-style creation depicting the moment of celebration for all 16 squad members of the T20 World Cup-winning Australian team.

The artwork will be showcased on the Level 2 corridors of the Melbourne Cricket Club Members’ Reserve in close proximity to the iconic Long Room, and is the first artwork to depict a Women’s sporting team to be on permanent display at the MCG.

It will be on display along the route of the world-famous MCG Tour, visible to the approximate 130,000 people including families and schoolchildren who undertake tours each year.

March 8, 2022, is International Women’s Day and marks the two-year anniversary of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 Final at the MCG, which saw 86,174 fans – an Australian attendance record for a standalone women’s sporting event and the highest crowd figure for a women’s cricket match globally.

Announced on International Women’s Day in 2021, Mr Fantauzzo has set about the last 12 months conceptualising and creating the portrait in close consultation with all Australian World Cup squad members through a mix of in-person and video calls due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and state border closures.

Australian Women’s Team Captain Meg Lanning said it was an honour for the side to be the first women’s sporting team to be immortalised in art at the MCG.

“The ICC Women’s World Cup final in 2020 was a special day and now to have a piece of artwork to remember the occasion is really exciting,” Lanning said.

“Whilst we couldn’t be there, having the artwork unveiled the night before International Women’s Day, which will mark two years since winning the final, reminds us of what can be achieved.

“We hope that we can make all our fans at home proud and emulate our performance from that World Cup in 2020 while we are here in New Zealand competing for the 50 version.

“It was great to work with Vincent during the process and we would like to thank him, the Melbourne Cricket Club and Cricket Australia for bringing it life.

“We hope it can inspire all visitors to the MCG to pick up a bat and ball.”

The Vincent Fantauzzo artwork of the 2020 T20 World Cup winning Australian women’s team can be seen from today on the MCG Tour. To book an MCG Tour, visit www.australiansportsmuseum.org.au
