University of Chitral participated in the HEC Intervarsity football Championship 2022 

Chitral, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):In the first match in Zone-C (Men) 2021-22 organized by Ripahah International University Islamabad, the University of Chitral beat UET Taxila through penalty kicks. The second match was played against COMSAT University Islamabad and after a nail-biting contest, the University of Chitral lost on running penalties.

With great discipline and sportsman spirit, the team won the hearts of all participating teams, officials, and spectators. The Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral encouraged the players and team management and announced different sports activities this year including Sports Week and Sports Galla wherein players will be selected and added to the University squad for future events.

NUMS-Department of public health-orientation session for BSPH-third batch; session 2022-2026

Rawalpindi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):NUMS Department of Public Health (NDPH) arranged orientation session for Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) program to welcome third batch of students, on February 21st, 2022. This year, an overwhelming response was observed for the program, which is evidence of our faculty hard work, commitment and dedication.

With this program, we aim to create a health workforce, capable to generate health awareness and health promotion among the community by adopting an innovative and community- based learning approach.

The session was organized to provide a brief introduction of the University and the Department of Public Health. The session was attended by the students, external faculty members of concerned courses and the faculty members of Department of Public Health including Head of Department Professor Dr Uzma Hassan, Associate Professor Dr Tamkeen Jaffry, Assistant Professor Dr Hina Shan, Senior Lecturer Dr Rehma Gilani and Assistant Manager Ms Rubab Zulfiqar.

Dr Hina Shan moderated the session by introducing the students with the mission of NUMS followed by a welcome note from Professor Dr. Uzma Hassan. She congratulated the students on their selection, highlighted the tremendous progress NUMS has made during the past five years and reiterated NUMS pledge to follows the spirit of scientific inquiry with the best of education and skill base training.

She echoed the important role public health plays in the development of a strong and resilient health system and underscored the role of faculty in imparting quality education and wished them, a promising career in public health research and development.

The faculty gave their brief introduction. Dr.Tamkeen Jaffry, briefed the students regarding academic and assessment policy of the program. Dr Rehma Gilani gave an outline of prospective research activities at the department. Mr Wajid, NUMS librarian, gave a presentation related to rules of using library and issue of books.

The students introduced themselves to the faculty members and to each other, briefly highlighting their interests in public health and reasons of joining NUMS. Students were provided the opportunity to ask questions from the HoD and faculty related to program and career perspective

A training session on the Learning Management System at Moodle was conducted by Ms. Aqsa Arshad, Directorate of Digital Technologies. The Chair concluded the session with a note of thanks to the students, faculty members and the concerned staff. The students were provided refreshments followed by a tour of academic block by the senior batch BSPH focal persons. The academic session has been formally commenced from February 21st, 2022.

President of Pakistan delivers a compelling speech at Model United Nations IBA Karachi 

Karachi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Public Speaking Society (PSS) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi hosted the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, at a panel discussion on ‘Eastbound – A Talk for Culture Fostering Future’, at Model United Nations IBA Karachi (MUNIK XII).

Inaugurated in 2008, MUNIK is an entirely student-run, non-profit event which provides a platform for young, bright minds to debate on diverse issues from across the globe. With this year’s theme, “Impact through Inclusion”, MUNIK XII strives to continue its legacy of discourse, diversity, and diplomacy.

The panel of speakers included, the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi; Executive Director IBA, Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Associate Professor, School of Economics and Social Sciences, IBA, Dr. Huma Baqai; and Visiting Faculty and Patron PSS, Ms. Nadia Sayeed.

Attendees included, Manager IBA PSS, Zara Imran; Director General MUNIK XII, Syed Osama Zaidi; members of the IBA faculty and administration, MUNIK Host Team members and delegates of the conference. The aim of this session was to discuss the Eastern political landscape and the role played by forums such as MUNIK to encourage discourse about pressing current issues.

Dr. Zaidi delivered a warm welcome address and said that the IBA promotes inclusivity and diversity and that the students are given admission based on merit. Furthermore, He added that 25% of the IBA students receive some form of financial assistance.

He also apprised the audience of IBA’s journey from a business school to to a multi-disciplinary Institute with 5000 students and around 150 faculty members. Dr. Zaidi also stressed upon the importance of dialogues and discourses that result in peaceful settlements.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Baqai discussed the pressing current conflicts in the world, particularly highlighting the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. She urged the audience to recognize the importance and relevance of international organizations and the role of conferences, such as MUNIK XII, to teach students crucial skills including negotiations, diplomacy, and conflict resolution. She concluded her speech with a powerful statement, “Competition is good, but cooperation is better”.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Alvi expressed his delight at addressing delegates at an Institute that promotes merit. He commended the IBA and MUNIK team. The esteemed President spoke in detail on the importance of communication in today’s world, and how one should always remain empathetic towards other’s experiences. He added that communication is the window to one’s mind.

On current political events, he expressed his sympathy for the people of Ukraine, expressing Pakistan’s stance of engaging in dialogue and striving for a peaceful solution to resolve the conflict. To punctuate his statement, he shared glimpses of historical peace movements with the audience.

The President also shared that historically and in the modern world, people of colour have always been treated differently to their western counterparts, citing events such as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The President provoked the audience, especially the young delegates of MUNIK, to ponder the role of international organizations and how they can be improved by learning crucial lessons from history.

Ultimately, the President’s speech accentuated the need for morality and humanity to remain at the forefront during international conflicts. He lastly stated the importance of a platform like MUNIK XII to amplify young Pakistani voices.

Dr. Zaidi hosts a dinner to honour speakers and delegates of 13th Karachi Literature Festival 

Karachi, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, Institute of Business Administration Karachi, hosted a dinner in the honour of speakers and delegates of the 13th Karachi Literature Festival (KLF), organized by the Oxford University Press (OUP) at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi. The aim of arranging this evening was to acknowledge the contribution of speakers and delegates and to facilitate intellectual discourses to provide a space for people to embrace diversity within the society.

The ceremony started with Dr. Zaidi welcoming the guests. The dinner was attended by diplomats, eminent scholars, literati, activists, academicians, celebrities, and artists. The event was attended by around 100 participants.

Faculty of Computing Holds Workshop on Flutter Mobile Application Development 

Islamabad, March 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):The department of Computer Science organized a Certificate Distribution ceremony on March 02, 200 to distribute certificates among the participants of Flutter Mobile Application Development workshop. Hands on works of Flutter mobile application development was held on 8th and 10th February 2022. Workshop was conducted by Dr. Muhammad Bilal and Mr. Omaid Ghayyur.

7th and 8th Semester students of Computer Science department attended the workshop. Professor Dr. Amir Nadeem awarded the participants and trainers with certificates and shields. Dr. Nayyer Masood, Head of Department, Computer Science, also attended the session and praised the participants.
