The First International Conference on Mathematics and Applied Sciences held at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur

Khairpur, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The department of mathematics, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, in collaboration with Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Shaheed Zaulfiar Ali Bhutto Campus, Khairpur held a joint session on Mathematics and Applied Sciences at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, the Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, was special Guest of the session.

Talking to the participants of the session, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said that technology plays significant role in our lives in today’s world and Mathematics and Applied Sciences are also very critical topics to discuss about. Dr. Ibupoti also said that this joint conference has paved way for our youth to conduct the research in that direction as well. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto also expressed his firm resolve to facilitate such other conferences in collaboration with other universities on various themes and topics.

While spring to the participants of the session, Prof. Dr. Abdul Sami Qureshi, the Pro. Vice Chancellor, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Khairpur, said that it was the high time to organize such conferences on such an important topic. Dr. Qureshi said that this conference will be very much fruitful for researchers, students, faculty, and society at large. Dr. Qureshi further said that universities are centre for research and our universities are moving towards research culture.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Abdul Jawad, Prof. Dr. Nazeer Ahmed Mir, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hanan Shaikh presented their research papers. Whereas, Prof. Dr. Hassam ud din Shaikh, the Focal Person of the Session at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, welcomed the honourable guests and said that the department of Mathematics is striving hard for academic excellence under the visionary leadership of Pro. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, the Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur.

UOL, Tiber Health USA sign MoU to promote medical research 

Lahore, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):On February 21, 2022, The University of Lahore (UOL) and Tiber Health USA penned down a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for promoting medical research. In pursuance of its vision of becoming a world class university, The University of Lahore, on February 21, 2022, signed an MOU with Tiber Health USA, an entity that culminates expertise in education, medicine, mathematics, technology, and entrepreneurship to deliver a premier health education system. Both UOL and Tiber Health will collaborate in the fields of education, research and innovation.

Practical learning session; the year of change: challenges for first year students in university

Rawalpindi, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):NUMS Department of Public Health (NDPH) conducted a Practical Learning Session with the theme: “The Year of Change: Challenges for First Year Students in University” on Friday, March 4th, 2022, at NUMS PWD campus. The purpose of the activity was to serve as an ice breaking session and to inform new students regarding challenges of university life and different coping strategies.

The session was organized by the students of Batch I and attended by all the students and faculty of Department of Public Health including the Head of Department Professor Dr Uzma Hassan, Associate Professor Dr Tamkeen Jaffry, Assistant Professor Dr Hina Shan, Senior Lecturer Dr Rehma Gilani and Assistant Manager Ms. Rubab Zulfiqar

The session was moderated by Ms Fatimah Shahrukh and Ms Iffa Zahid. They introduced life at the university campus as a place to learn, explore and develop oneself holistically. They emphasized that the experiences students gain in their first year of University, help them in shaping their successes in the years ahead.

Students, Mr Ahsan Khalil of Batch I, Mr Waleed Qaseer, Ms Fatima Saleem and Ms Sofia Rajput of Batch II, and Ms Hamda of Batch III, shared their personal experiences. Presentation on Common Challenges Faced by Students and their Solutions by Ms Rimsha Azhar and Stress Management by Ms Noor Ul Ain Shah highlighted challenges faced by students and importance of friendship, meditations, discipline, budgeting and coping mechanism.

Pamphlets and posters, prepared by Ms Fizza Javed and Ms Shiza Aftab of Batch I, were also displayed. The session also included fun games including Chinese Whisper, Would You Rather and Karaoke. In the Q and A session, students were given an opportunity to ask questions. Their concern were mostly related to public health career pathway, field trips, timing and holidays.

In her closing remarks, HoD Prof Dr Uzma Hassan reassured that wellbeing of students is priority of university and their genuine concerns will be address. She acknowledged and appreciated organizing committee on their hard work and team efforts especially, Senior Lecturer Dr Rehma Gilani who arranged and supervised the session.

She reemphasized the importance of first year in the university and shared her personal experience at Army Medical College. She said that this is the time where one is transitioning from a college student to a responsible adult, trying out different clubs and organizations, attending social events, and beginning to get to know batch-mates and instructors. This will lay a foundation that will be crucial for growth in these formative university years. The moderators thanked the students and faculty for attending the activity and ended with a group photograph of three batches with the HOD and the faculty of the Department of Public Health.

Caner Symposium 

Rawalpindi, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The NUMS Department of Biological sciences (NDBS) conducted the hybrid format “Caner Symposium”- in line with World Health Organization 2022 cancer campaign theme ‘Close the care gap’, held at National University of Medical Sciences, PWD campus on Wednesday, 9th March 2022. The symposium is planned to join the cause and to allow the general population to understand and adopt precautionary measures for the control of the disease by health professionals. With the precarious nature of the situation, immediate attention is required to limit the spread.

The event involved the active participation from students and faculty of NUMS, Islamabad. The students from Ibadat International University, University of Lahore (Islamabad campus), COMSATS University, CUST, Health Services Academy (HAS), PMAS-ARID Agriculture University, RIPHA international University have actively participated in different competition organized at NUMS. The highlights of the event were talk by renowned clinical experts, basic scientists and field experts, student’s oral presentation competition, role play, poster exhibition and competition, video screening competitions.

The honourable Dr. Aisha Mohyuddin, Dean, Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, welcomed and introduced the guest speakers. This was followed by a welcome message from the Head of NDBS, Dr. Muhammad Jawad Hassan. The onsite presentation was given by Dr. Riffat (Ibadat University) and Dr. Shehazd Riyaz (Shifa International Hospital).

Renowned national and international Oncologist (Dr. Hamayoun Imran (USA), Dr. Famyaa Abdullah (Pakistan), Dr Tasnia Mirza (UK) discussed the prevention and treatment strategies of various types of cancer including breast, prostate, ovary, lungs, oral cancers along with common cancers in children by their virtual talks. The focal person, organizing committee of cancer symposium, Dr. Asma Saleem Qazi, has also delivered a talk highlighting the key points of cancer risks, prevention and options in cancer research along with NUMS cancer research contributions (projects, publications, book chapters) by NUMS faculty.

Dr. Riffat Ayesha Anis professor, Ibadat International University, Ex- SARC director and Chief Nutrition division, NIH Islamabad has distributed the certificates and gifts among the position holder students of all the competitions and the organizers of the symposium. She appreciated the great potential and talent of students exhibited during the event and also acknowledged the dedication of the organizing members in conducting the symposium successfully.

The respected Dr. Aisha Mohyuddin, and Dr. Jawad Hassan also appreciated the organizing team of NDBS; Dr. Asma Saleem Qazi, Uzma Azeem Awan, Waseem Safddar, Sara Mumtaz, Rida Fatima Saeed on their hard work and commendable job. The event was moderated by Dr. Rabail Zehra Raza and facilitated by Dr. Nosheen Akhtar, Aman Ishtiaq and Sabba Mehmood. In the end, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Lone, Assoc. Prof. NDBS has congratulated the winners of the competition for their enthusiastic contribution.

Graduation Ceremony of Second Batch of NFTP at University of Education, Lahore 

Lahore, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):The graduation ceremony of the second batch of the students of National Freelance Training Program (NFTP) was held at Township Campus of University of Education, Lahore here on March 28, 2022. The ceremony was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, University of Education, Lahore Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) while the chief guest was Director General E-Governance Punjab Information Technology Board Sajid Latif. On this occasion, certificates were distributed among 179 students who completed their training from Lahore.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that modern technology has undoubtedly created conveniences for human beings in every field. Today, those countries that have made their citizens aware of the latest technology have a unique position in the world. He said that majority of the population of the our country Pakistan consists of youth and it is very important to introduce them modern technology so that they can not only make their life comfortable but also play their active role in the development of the country.

And with that in mind, the government has launched projects such as the National Freelance Training Program, where young people are being taught technical skills and provided with online employment opportunities. Congratulating the graduating students, the Vice Chancellor said that the National Freelance Training Program is a successful project which should benefit as many young people as possible. Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Director General E-Governance Punjab Information Technology Board Sajid Latif said that in the present digital age it is very important for the youth to acquire technical skills as gaining expertise in this field so that they can not only get livelihood but also a valuable foreign exchange for the country.

Inauguration of Women Development Center at University of Education, Lahore 

Lahore, March 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):In collaboration with Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, Women Development Centre was inaugurated at University of Education, Lahore on March 25, 2022. Vice Chancellor University of Education, Lahore Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) presided over the inaugural ceremony while Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (T.I.) was the chief guest. Representatives of Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, UE female teachers and students also graced the occasion.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Vice Chancellor University of Education, Lahore, Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) said that undoubtedly woman is the basic unit of society without which no society can develop. It is imperative that women be provided with equal opportunities in education and training. He said that half of the total population of the Pakistan consists of women but unfortunately women are still struggling and suffering from innumerable problems in our country. According to various international reports, gender discrimination is a major cause of low economic growth in any country.

Therefore, if we empower our women, a great positive change can be brought in the country. The Vice Chancellor further said that the main objective of establishing Women Development Centre in the University of Education is to enable university female students to be global change makers through its holistic, personal and professional development programs, designed to hone their knowledge, skills and competencies. While addressing the ceremony, the chief guest Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women, University, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (T.I.) said that the University of Education, Lahore has fulfilled an important need of the day with the establishment of Women Development Center.

The administration of the university especially the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha (S.I.) deserves congratulations. He said that the development of a woman is not only the development of an individual but also the development of a society. The women of Pakistan have the potential to play their part in tackling the challenges of the day. At the end of the event, Dr. Naeema Qureshi, Focal Person of Women Development Center, University of Education, Lahore, thanked the chief guest and others for attending the event.
