4 in 10 Pakistanis believe that Shahbaz Sharif was correct when he stated that if he had formulated the right strategy before the 2018 elections, Nawaz Sharif would have been the Prime Minister of Pakistan: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, September 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 4 in 10 Pakistanis believe that Shahbaz Sharif was correct when he stated that if he had formulated the right strategy before the 2018 elections, Nawaz Sharif would have been the Prime Minister of Pakistan while 27% believe his statement is incorrect.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the four provinces was asked the following question, “Recently, PML-N leader Shahbaz Sharif has stated that if he had formulated the right strategy before the 2018 elections, Nawaz Sharif would have been the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Some people think that this statement of Shahbaz Sharif is correct, while some people think that this statement of Shahbaz Sharif is wrong. What is your opinion about it?” In response to this question, 40% said his statement was correct while 27% said it was wrong. Another 27% did not know and 6% did not respond.

NED, SSUET organizes conference on Applied Physics and Engineering

Karachi, September 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):Vice-Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin has said that wide array of areas are directly connected to the applied physics and engineering. “All devices are developed using some physical laws. We will not be able to develop systems and devices, unless we have sound knowledge of physical laws. Understanding of physical laws is very important, he said while addressing the First online International Conference on Applied Physics and Engineering (ICAPE 2021) today.

The two-day conference was organized by NED University of Engineering and Technology with Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology as Copartner to overwhelm the barrier of academia and industry by giving a mutual platform to share internationally to get expert ideas about their research work and experiences.

It will be an encouragement for the young scientists and an opportunity to seek collaborative research in the fields of Physics and Engineering. Chairman Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Faizan Mansoor was the Chief Guest, while Director General of National Center for Physics Dr. Hafeez Hoorani was the Guest of Honour.

Vice-Chancellor NED, Sarosh Hashmat Lodi in a two-day International Conference on Applied Physics and Engineering said that physics affects practically every aspect of society while the engineering sector depends on physics. Universities should host such worldwide conferences on applied physics so that academics and professionals could understand the importance of applied physics.

Chairman Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority Faizan Mansoor said that “organizing such a global conference in the centenary celebrations of NED was commendable. He said that the academic sessions from which social improvement is possible must be continuous” The DG National Center for Physics Dr. Hafeez Hoorani said, “We invite engineers from NED to explore research for our institute.”

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aamir, Dean Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SSUET) said through his message that the conference shared a knowledge into the state of the art advances and cutting edge technologies, which acquires tremendous interest with the titanic presence of adepts. The objective is to unite a multidisciplinary gathering of researchers and engineers around the globe and exchange break through ideas relating to physics and engineering. It promotes high-level research and globalizes the quality exploration and spotlight on the new remarkable accomplishments in the respective fields with future trends and needs.

PU, UMT to work together on climate change

Lahore, September 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):An MoU is signed between Remote Sensing, GIS and Climatic Research Lab (RSGCRL), National Center of GIS and Space Applications, Punjab University and Department of Economics and Statistics (DoES), University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore. In this regard, a ceremony was organized at Vice Chancellor’s officer in which PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed, UMT Rector Professor Dr. Muhammad Aslam, Director External Linkages Dr Sobia Khurram and others participated in the ceremony.

The focal persons of the MoU are Dr. Salman Tariq from RSGCRL and Dr. Saira Sharif from DoES. The two institutes will collaborate in developing joint research proposals and data sharing, organization of conferences, seminars and workshops, providing mentorship and learning opportunities to the students and young professionals and their involvement through internships and research theses in the fields of remote sensing and geospatial applications for atmospheric constituents modelling, socioeconomics of climate change, applications of remote sensing data and sustainable development of Pakistan.

The signature target of the MoU is to develop institutional linkages that will serve as a continuous and consistent support in the execution of all other activities. UVAS inks MoU with MCL for Vaccine Social Mobilization Internship Programme, promotion of culture, literature and language 

Lahore, September 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and City of Literature signed a memorandum of understanding for Vaccine Social Mobilization Internship Programme and promotion of culture, literature and language of Lahore on Friday.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (S.I) and MCL Administrator/Lahore Commissioner Capt (Retd) Muhammad Usman signed the MoU in a ceremony held at Alhamra Hall. Minister for Health Punjab Dr Yasmeen Rashid, Minister of Punjab for Youth affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti and Vice-chancellors/Rectors from different universities were present.

According to the MOU, UVAS students will actively participate in the Lahore Gets Vaccinated six-week Internship Programme, which is an initiative of the Commissioner Lahore Division. Sixty UVAS students will work under the supervision of UVAS Principal Students Affair, Senior Tutor Office and Dr Hammad Saleem. The students will avail opportunities of working along with different government departments for social mobilization and skill and communication training workshop.

The students will create awareness among the general public at their doorsteps about the benefits of vaccine to save their lives from deadly corona virus with the motive of save Lahore. The students will get three-day training at Alhamra before the launch of Vaccine Social Mobilization Internship Programme. Twenty-two other universities are also participating in this programme. In the City of Literature programme, seminars, sessions and summits will be arranged to promote culture, literature and language of Lahore.

PSL Governing Council meeting held

Mr Ramiz Raja highlighted and appreciated the franchisees’ contribution in the growth, development and promotion of Pakistan cricket, and assured the team owners that he remained committed to upscaling, enhancing and strengthening the HBL PSL brand.

U19 Cricket Associations trials to commence from Saturday 

Lahore, September 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 490 CCA U19 players will undergo trials for the six U19 Cricket Associations sides, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today. Twelve teams (two teams from each cricket association) will feature in the National U19 Championship (three-day event) and National U19 Cup (one-day tournament).

Amongst the 490 players, 60 players each are from five Cricket Associations. As matches in the Central Punjab jurisdiction were affected due to rain and the players could not get a chance to showcase their skills, they have been given another chance of proving their worth in the trials. As such, 190 players are selected from Central Punjab.

Other than the 490 players, more than 30 U19 players who were part of the Pakistan U19 camp that recently concluded in Karachi will get automatic selection in their respective cricket associations’ teams. The players who featured in the last U19 domestic cricket season and players that featured for Pakistan U16 are also eligible to feature in the trials. As per the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2022 age criteria, players born on or after 1 September 2002 will feature in the trials.

The trials will be held at six Cricket Associations venues from 25 September to 1 October. A five-member national junior selection committee comprising Saleem Jaffar, Javed Hayat, Sanaullah Baloch, Taufiq Umar and Wajahatullah Wasti will conduct the trials while Kamran Khan will work as an additional member.

Five Cricket Associations will host trials over two days, while Central Punjab will host trials at two venues for three days. On 25 and 26 September, National Cricket Ground, Islamabad, Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan and NSK Oval Ground, Karachi, will hold trials for Northern U19, Southern Punjab U19 and Sindh U19, respectively.

Bugti Stadium, Quetta, and Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad, will hold trials for Balochistan U19 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U19 sides on 29 and 30 September.

Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground in Faisalabad will hold trials on 29 September, while Township Whites Cricket Ground in Lahore will host trials for Central Punjab U19 team from 30 September to 1 October.

Strict Covid-19 protocols will be implemented to ensure health and safety of players. As such, temperatures checks will be done on entry points of the venues. Players will have to wear masks when not inside the boundary ropes and maintain social distancing at any given time. Sharing of equipment and use of saliva on ball will not be allowed.

The National U19 Championship (three-day event) and the National U19 Cup (one-day tournament) will be played from 10 October to 12 November.
