President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad met with Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan 

Lahore, September 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):We need to provide a better Pakistan to our future generations; says Aitezaz Ahsan President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad warmly welcomed the esteemed guest and gave him a brief overview of UMT. Mr. Murad expressed that scholars and lawyers like Aitzaz Ahsan are the real intellectual asset of Pakistan. He also requested Aitezaz Ahsan to offer guidance to UMT School of Law and Policy by providing a research based document that outlines the areas judiciary needs reforms in.

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan endorsed the way UMT is producing quality graduates in all fields. He appreciated the young leadership skills of Ibrahim Murad and said that he is upholding the legacy of his father Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed) very well. Aitzaz Ahsan further said that the Rule of Law written in books has no power until it is reflected in the way we think, in our attitudes as well as personality. He also accepted the fact that we need to provide a better Pakistan to our future generations. President UMT Ibrahim Murad presented a souvenir to Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan.

KP Assembly takes up entire agenda, adopts four resolutions 

Islamabad, September 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) took up its entire agenda and adopted four resolutions on Friday, observes Fee and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the 14th sitting of 20th session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for two hours and 22 minutes.

The sitting started at 11:00 am against the scheduled time of 10:00 am.

The speaker chaired the entire proceedings.

The deputy speaker was also present.

The leaders of the House (Chief Minister) and the opposition were absent.

As many as 43 MPAs (30 percent) were present at the outset and 51 (35 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leader of ANP and BAP attended the proceedings.

Two out of four minority lawmakers attended the sitting.

Output

Moved by the minister for labour, the House passed the KP Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

The House adopted four resolutions recommending risk and professional allowances for staff of Rescue 1122, hardship allowance for teachers appointed in schools of far-flung areas in Abbottabad, special allowance for House Officers and TMOs of Ayub Medical College Abbottabad and urging the government to write Khatam-un-Nabiyyin with the name of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

Representation and Responsiveness

The House took up seven out of ten starred questions, while the lawmakers asked three supplementary questions.

The House took up two calling attention notices (CANs) regarding damage to roads and bridges due to rains in Abbottabad and electricity restoration in two tehsils of South Waziristan.

Four lawmakers and Special Assistant to Chief Minister on higher education debated an adjournment motion regarding proposed privatization of government colleges in the province. They spoke on it for 55 minutes.

Order and Institutionalization

A PPPP lawmaker pointed out the quorum at 01:00 pm following which the Chair ordered the bells to be rung for two minutes twice. The quorum was found complete upon counting.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 02:00 pm.

Transparency

‘Orders of the Day’ was available for the legislators, observers and the media.

Attendance of the lawmakers was not available for the observers and the media.

Sindh Assembly defers 62 percent agenda, adopts two resolutions 

Islamabad, September 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Sindh Assembly deferred 62 percent agenda and adopted two resolutions on Friday, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

Following are key observations of the House proceedings during the fourth sitting of 23rd session:

Members’ Participation

The House met for two hours and three minutes.

The sitting started at 10:55 am against the scheduled time of 10:00 am.

The speaker presided over the entire proceedings.

The deputy speaker was not present.

The leader of the House (Chief Minister) did not attend the sitting.

The leader of the opposition was present for an hour and 30 minutes.

As many as 17 MPAs (10 percent) were present at the outset and 47 (28 percent) at the adjournment of the sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, MQMP, GDA, TLP and MMAP attended the proceedings.

Five out of nine minority lawmakers attended the proceedings.

Output

The House unanimously adopted a joint resolution paying tribute to the courageous struggle of Syed Ali Shah Geelani for Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination.

Tabled by Minister for information, the House adopted another resolution rejecting the proposed legislation against media.

The House did not consider the Sindh Mines and Minerals Governance Bill, 2021; the University of Mirpurkhas Bill, 2021 and two audit reports of government departments.

The Chair did not announce the assent of Governor to the Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

Representation and Responsiveness

All seven starred questions were taken up during the question hour. In addition, the lawmakers asked 18 supplementary questions.

The House took up four calling attention notices (CANs) regarding poor performance of DMC Korangi, fund allocation for bar associations in Sindh, law and order situation in the province and collection of cess from cultivators during drought and famine in Tharparkar.

Another CAN regarding quality of education in Sindh was deferred.

A privilege motion of PTI lawmaker against Secretary and Director Labour and Human Resources Department was not taken up.

An adjournment motion of MMAP lawmaker regarding local body system in the province also remained unaddressed.

Order and Institutionalization

Four lawmakers spoke on points of order for 45 minutes which were about issues related to media and education.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 02: 00 pm.

ACCA, CXO (CFO Club) enter MOU to support finance professionals with future-readiness

Islamabad, September 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and CXO Private Limited (CFO Club) have entered a partnership to create world-class learning opportunities for the accounting and finance professionals in the county to support them with their global-relevance and future-readiness.

The partnership was announced at a high-level MOU signing ceremony held at ACCA’s office in Karachi.
