Certificate Distribution Ceremony of IIOE Multilevel Training on Big Data General Level

Since its inception in the year 2020, IIOE has gradually developed into an educational platform that provides university staff with open and free ICT-related quality resources, and effective consultation and support to the academic crisis of HEIs caused by the global pandemic. UET Lahore, being chair, is trying to create content on IIOE related to teacher professional development in line with the local demand of the country. For that matter, UET is geared up in getting its faculty and teachers hands on to the IIOE platform for its effective usage. Besides working at an institutional level, expansion of IIOE partnership among HEIs, enterprises, organizations, and government bodies within their own network also promotion of IIOE adoption and influence at provisional and national levels is on cards.

With a mission to empower university educators and professionals with data literacy, IIOE multilevel training series (Big Data General Level) was kicked off on September 28, 2020. Training completion certificates and Gifts distribution ceremony for UET participants was organized at Vice Chancellor’s conference room. Vice Chancellor and chair IIOE Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Director KICS Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Dean Faculty of Chemical Engineering Dr. Naveed Ramzan, Dean Faculty of Electrical Engineering Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Dean Faculty of Natural sciences, humanities and Islamic studies Dr. Shahid Rafique, Dean Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Dr. Nadeem Mufti, Dean Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering Dr. Zubair Abubakar, Dean Faculty of Architecture Dr. Rizwan Hameed, Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering Dr. Habib ul Rehman and Faculty members graced the occasion with their presence.

Director KICS, Dr. Waqar Mehmood briefed the participants with some thoughtful insights of IIOE-UET Lahore partnership and milestones that have been achieved under this collaboration. While speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor UET Lahore and Chair IIOE Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar stressed the importance of active participation from faculty and asked deans to disseminate the message strongly among their faculty and research staff. Dr. Mansoor while speaking as a chief guest of the ceremony expressed his greeting to the successful participants and specially thanked Dr. Waqar Mehmood and his team for putting in efforts to make it happen successfully. At the end, certificates along with gifts from IIOE were distributed among participants and dignitaries. The ceremony was concluded with a group photo of participants with the distinguished guests.

Depriving girls of education is also a form of violence: Chief Justice

Lahore, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):Depriving girls of education is also violence and we need to stop this violence through our individual and collective efforts, said Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mr Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti on Sunday. He was addressing the concluding session of the 19th convocation of the Government College University Lahore. The chief justice along with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi awarded Rolls of Honour and degrees to the outstanding students.

Mr Justice Masud Abid Naqvi was also present. The Chief Justice said it is our solemn duty to start a campaign and mobilize awareness in all families that girls need to be educated and successful in every aspect of practical life. Congratulating the graduates, Justice Ameer Bhatti said he has the highest respect for the teaching profession as your teachers provide utmost help to achieve the optimum results besides encouraging you to keep yourselves motivated and it is the result of their kindness that you have grown to such a level where academic success provides you with avenues to have fascinating prospects of the successful carrier ahead.

The chief Justice told the graduates that “Pakistan is facing multiple challenges like environmental hazards and increasing population below the poverty line; the rich getting richer and poor getting poorer, so our country needs effective role by all of youth like yourself.” The chief justice said he has always been inspired by the greatness of the Government College (now University) Lahore dated back to 1864.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi said GCU this year started six new undergraduate degree programs of Law, Media and Communication Studies, Painting, Art History, Management Studies and Medical Laboratory Technology. He urged the graduates to utilize their degrees and work for the development of their country. The Vice-Chancellor asked the students to never forget the contributions of their parents in their life, saying that “your parents sacrificed a lot so that you can be successful.” He also shared the achievements of GCU in the last two years.

2,293 students awarded degrees at GCU convocation 

Lahore, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 2,293 students are awarded degrees at the 19th convocation of the Government College University (GCU) Lahore being held in four sessions to follow SOPs of COVID-19. Out of the total 2,293 students, 41 received PhD, 814 MS/M.Phil, 381 MA/MSc degrees, while 1057 others are being awarded BA/BSc (Hons) degrees at the three-day event.

Commissioner Lahore Capt. (r) Muhammad Usman and Dr Amjad Saqib, the founder of Akhuwat, were chief guests at the second and third session of the convocation on Saturday, where they along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi awarded the degrees and medals to PhD scholars and position-holders.

As many as 60 graduates were awarded academic medals and rolls of honour, while 12 students received medals for their extra ordinary performance and achievements in co-curricular activities. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amjad Saqib shared his life story with the graduates, saying that spirit of self-sacrifice gives birth to a prosperous society. He told graduates that they are highly privileged and blessed as they have studied from a very prestigious institution in a country.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi congratulated the graduates and asked them to use their education to create an impact on the society. He also advised them to never compromise their moral values and principles in pursuit of glory. The Vice Chancellor also shared key achievements of GCU in the last two years.

The Commissioner Lahore asked students to always remember the contributions of their parents and teachers in their lives, and play a positive role for the development of their country. Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mr. Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti will be chief guest at the concluding session of the Convocation on Sunday.

Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative by HEC 

Lahore, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative (DLSEI) by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with collaboration of Coursera International intends to enhance online learning and skills development among passionate students and faculty members of HEIs. This program will provide an opportunity to access the online courses and certifications from top universities of the world and get a chance to enroll themselves in the highest-ranked and most expensive online courses. This program will enhance students’ skills and abilities, and further equip them in a better way for practical life challenges, self-development, etc.

Eligibility criteria for the DLSEI program:

1. All Public Sector University Students currently enrolled in 16-year education programs and above are eligible

2. Faculty members of Public Sector Universities are also eligible

3. The applicant must have a valid CNIC/ B-form number

4. Alumni who have graduated within the past 2 years of the launch date (September 9, 2021) of this Coursera Program.

Unlimited courses on a single license:

Learners can attempt/register as many courses as possible within the 1 year of license activation.

Registration and Selection criteria:

Registration will be on a first come first served basis within each University’s stipulated quota.

All eligible students are encouraged to apply through Student Services to get nominated on a first come first served basis. The University will send nominations to HEC for registration. (Please do so at the earliest as positions fill up quickly)

Virtual University of Pakistan, being the pioneer ICT based University, has developed a customized portal for DLSEI program to support this initiative and facilitate its students with convenience.

Visit https://vulms.vu.edu.pk and login with your student ID. Goto “Student Services” section and click on the “REGISTER NOW” link under “Digital Learning with Coursera (1000+ courses)”. Download the “DISCLAIMER FORM” and upload the duly filled and signed scanned copy and also pay the “FEE VOUCHER” generated in your Account Book section for further processing.

After registration and payment through the University, students/faculty members will be sent an email containing the invitation link for the program from Coursera. They will be required to create an account on Coursera to join the Program and to start enrolling in courses.

Fee Structure:

Public Sector University Students/ Faculty

1. Each learner will have to submit Rs.4000 to their University as per policy. This will be reimbursed (100%) to the learner, subject to successful completion/ certification of at least three (03) courses.

2. If the learner fails to complete at least three courses, then his/her fee will be forfeited and deposited in the HEC account.

3. Note: Coursera License is available free of cost for eligible physically challenged/ differently-abled students (of Public Sector Universities only) at a 2% quota for each University. (Government-issued disability certificate is required to be eligible)

UVAS holds “International Virtual Conference on Rabies Awareness and its Control” 

Lahore, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore organized a daylong “International Virtual Conference on Rabies Awareness and its Control” here in City Campus. More than 250 participants from five countries (Indonesia, USA, Somalia, Kazakhstan, India participated in this conference.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the inaugural session of the conference while Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani and a number of academicians, practicing vets, researchers, professionals, UVAS faculty members and students were joined conference through video link.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad urged the need of effective control measures against rabies in animals as well as in human population. Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani said that integrated management approaches including public awareness and use of innovative technology are the need of hour and it is also important to overcome the barriers of control like religious and social factors along with training of human resource must be given priority in government policy.

Many well-known national and international experts, professors and professionals including Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Dr Ajaz Rashid from Windsor Animal Hospital USA, Manager of Rabies Prevention and Training Centre from Indus Hospital Dr Aftab Gohar, Prof Dr Hassan Saleem from UVAS, Vet physician and Surgeon Dr Attique Dhakoo, Ms Qurat-Ul-Ain Anjum from Vets Care Club for rabies awareness UVAS delivered their lectures on different topics.

They spoke about the rabies facts, strategies and role of policy makers in rabies elimination, rabies status and legislative measures in USA, threat of rabies by bites of stray dogs, rabies prevention and treatment in cats and dog, etc.

Memorandum of Understanding signs between Alkhidmat Foundation Gilgit-Baltistan and Red Crescent Gilgit-Baltistan 

Lahore, September 20, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Alkhidmat Foundation Gilgit-Baltistan and Red Crescent Gilgit-Baltistan. The National Director Disaster Management Program of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Ejazullah Khan, President of Alkhidmat Foundation Gilgit-Baltistan chapter, Zeenat Shah, Secretary-General Alkhidmat GB Zakariya Ahmed, and others were also present on the occasion. The acting Chairman of the Red Crescent, Ashraf Ashur, Regional Manager, Imran Rana, and other officials from Red Crescent showed up to the ceremony.
