Speak up and Raise Voice- HEC Anti-Harassment Policy Awareness Activity

Faisalabad, April 11, 2023 (PPI-OT):The HEC affirms the right of every member of the HEI community to live, study and work in an environment that is free from harassment. NTU Wings encouraged HEC’s objective and organized a poster competition in this regard on February 20, 2023. The activity raised awareness and highlighted the issue of harassment in our society.

Students submitted their artwork in the form of posters, essays, poems, and paintings to express their points of view against harassment. Faiza Amjad (21-NTU-DD-1436) was the winner and Mubashara Batool was the runners-up. Certificates of participation were awarded to all the participants.

IIUI Participates in Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Constitution of Pakistan-1973 at National Assembly

Islamabad, April 11, 2023 (PPI-OT):The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) under the leadership of Vice President (Academics), Professor Dr. Ayaz Afsar along with team of university male and female students participated in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, a landmark document that laid the foundation of a democratic and progressive society in the country. These celebrations were held at the National Assembly of Pakistan, Islamabad where Vice Chancellors of around one hundred Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) across the country participated with students on the invitation of the National Assembly, speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf. The month-long celebrations commenced on April 10, 2023, with a series of events to commemorate the founding principles of federal parliamentary democracy, social justice, and equality, as enshrined in the Constitution, 1973.

These activities have been meticulously chalked out by a Parliamentary Advisory Committee, constituted by the Speaker, drawing Members from both Houses of Parliament and headed by seasoned parliamentarian Senator Main Raza Rabbani. On the commemorative day of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, the Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf inaugurated the celebrations by laying the foundation stone of the Constitution Monument at the site approved by the Advisory Committee, opposite Parliamentary Lodges, D-Chowk Islamabad. The monument will serve as a permanent reminder of the importance of the Constitution in the nation’s history. This inaugural was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial of the Unsung Heroes of Democracy in the Parliament House, paying homage to those who fought for democracy and constitutionalism in Pakistan.

On this occasion the Speaker National Assembly also inaugurated an exhibition showcasing rare pictures of the Constitution’s framers, inspected a commemorative stamp, and then headed to the second floor of the Parliament to inspect the original Constitution and other manuscripts. The advisory committee head Senator Raza Rabbani gathered all the heads of the HEI’s at the inaugural place where they were briefed about the historic background regarding creation of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973. These celebrations culminated followed by a National Constitution Convention in the main assembly hall which was attended by parliamentarians and people from all walks of life. The Convention was chaired by the Speaker.

Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman Advisory Committee Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, and other attendees paid tribute to the framers of the Constitution and reflected on how it has served as a cornerstone of democracy, justice, and equality in Pakistan. The session also passed a number of resolutions related to the Constitution’s recognition as a binding document, its incorporation into the national curriculum, homage to the Constitution’s framers, and declaring the State Bank building (old National Assembly Hall) as a National Monument. The celebrations were also attended by male and female students at the National Assembly of Pakistan where Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar Vice President (Academics), IIUI during the discussion with students shared the importance of the Constitution in shaping the destiny of Pakistan.

The Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 promises to be a landmark event in Pakistan’s history, celebrating the ideals and principles that define the country’s democratic and progressive identity. On this occasion IIUI Alumnae Mr. Salman Jaah serving in Parliament House as Deputy Secretary and Mrs. Maryam Idrees from Electronic Media Islamabad welcomed the university delegation while, students of the university remained enthusiastic during the entire activities and thanked the university administration for enabling them to participate in such an important and commutative ceremony held at National Assembly of Pakistan.

The month-long activities include speech contests in educational institutions, quiz competition, exhibitions, special programs by electronic media, newspaper supplements, issuance of commemorative coin and stamp as well as an international constitution convention on May 10, 2023.

GCU Grants Special Eid-Honorarium to Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff

Lahore, April 11, 2023 (PPI-OT):The GC University Lahore announced a special Eid-honorarium for its teaching non-teaching staff as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication. The announcement was made by the Vice Chancellor of GC University Lahore, Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi in a message to his colleagues. The special Eid-honorarium will be equivalent to one-half basic pay scale of 2017 for the non-teaching staff and fixed amount for all the teaching staff. The move has been warmly welcomed by the staff of the University.

According to Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, “We are pleased to offer this token of appreciation to our non-teaching and teaching staff on the occasion of Eid. They are an important part of our university and we value their hard work and dedication. This is a way for us to thank them for their contributions.” Initially, the special Eid-honorarium was granted only to the non-teaching staff. However, on the request of Academic Staff Association of the GCU, the faculty was also included in this provision.

GCU Academic Staff Association President Prof. Dr. Babar Aziz GCU and Registrar Dr. Shaukat Ali said expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, saying that the special Eid-honorarium is expected to provide some financial relief to the teaching and non-teaching staff of GC University Lahore and allow them to celebrate the festival of Eid with their families.

Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Associate Professor, Department of Molecular Biology, represented the Virtual University of Pakistan at the International Conference to promote Camelids in Pakistan. He presented his research work at this international forum and was also selected as an “Executive Member” of the International Camel Consortium for Genetic Improvement and Conservation (ICC-GIC).

A quiz program was organized on the subject of the Seerat-ul-Nabi in connection with the month of Ramadan

Bahawalpur, April 11, 2023 (PPI-OT):Department of Commerce Islamia University Bahawalpur organized a quiz program on the subject of the Prophet’s biography on the occasion of the month of Ramadan. Many male and female students of the university participated in it. In the first and second round three questions were asked to each team and in the final judging round the decision was made on answering the maximum number of questions in one minute. The first position was won by Rabia and Muqadas, second position by Shoaib and Mohammad Aqib and third position by Ali and Sanaullah. Overall this quiz program was very informative. The students participated with great preparation and the audience’s knowledge about Surat Tayyaba increased tremendously.

Dr. Qazi Hussain Ahmad Madani, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, and Dr. Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, Assistant Professor, Department of Quran Studies, acted as judges in the quiz program. Commerce Student Club President Ahsan Dastgir and other club members played an important role in organizing this program What Did Honorary shields were distributed to the first three position teams. Finally, Dr. Qazi Hussain Ahmad Madani and Dr. Saeed Ahmad Shaikh also shed light on Seerat Tayyaba.
