65th Senior National Wrestling Championship starting at UVAS on December 18 

Lahore, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and Higher Education Commission (HEC) under the banner of Pakistan University Sports Board (PUSB) are arranging 65th National Wrestling Championship at UVAS Sports Complex on Saturday (today).

Federal Minister Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the championship while Minister of Punjab for Youth affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti and Executive Director HEC Dr Shaista Sohail will also be present on the occasion. In which wrestling teams from various departments including Pakistan Army, Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Railway, Police and HEC from all over the country will participate.

IRI Holds Condolence Reference in Memory of Martyrs of APS Peshawar 

Islamabad, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):A condolence reference was organized by the Institute of Islamic Research (IRI) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in memory of the fall of Dhaka and the martyrs of Peshawar, Army Public School (APS). It was chaired by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Director General (IRI), while Dr. Mohi-ud-Din Hashmi, Head Department of Islamic Studies, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), was the Chief Guest. Condolence reference was attended by a large number of teachers, administrative officers, employees and students of university.

On this occasion, Dr. Mohi-ud-Din Hashmi paid rich tributes to the martyrs of APS. He stressed on the need to have full faith in the Constitution of Pakistan and implementation of “Paigham-e- Pakistan”. He said that only by following the Constitution of Pakistan in its spirit we can make Pakistan among one of the powerful nations.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Director General, Institute and Director General, Islamic Research Institute, highlighted the establishment of narrative “Pagham-e-Pakistan Center for Peace” and shared the objectives for the establishment of national narrative. Dr. Zia condemned the coward attack on innocents at (APS) Army Public School, Peshawar, in which country had lost more than 140 children. He said that the “Paigham-e-Pakistan and its allied sub-statements have been formulated to avoid such incidents permanently. He added that Paigham-e-Pakistan is the actual image and version of the Pakistani society.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Munir, Head of Publications, Islamic Research Institute, said that these two incidents were a lesson to be learned for us. He added that the sacrifices made by our martyrs for the protection of the country even before these incidents should be remembered in our minds and hearts and we will always be ready for the protection of our homeland.

Dr. Aftab Ahmed from IRI, IIUI said that the Peshawar incident had taught the divided nation to become a united and strong nation. Mr. Atiq-ur-Rehman, Director, IRI, IIUI paid homage to the martyrs of Peshawar and said that the only way for us to progress and move forward is to overcome difficulties and face with passion and courage.

At the end of the ceremony Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, DG, IRI presented a resolution reiterating the commitment to the future that we will never allow our country to be targeted by cowardly terrorists’ attacks and any kind of linguistic, sectarian or religious division will also be countered.

NUST Hosts Venture Capital Conference 2021 to Promote Technological Development at NSTP 

Islamabad, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):A one-day conference on promotional measures for the establishment of venture capital companies for technological development and growth was arranged under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The conference was hosted by NUST in NSTP (National Science and Technology Park). The purpose of the conference was to develop a policy framework for venture capital companies. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Senator Shibli Faraz was present as the Chief Guest at the conference.

Various stakeholders of the conference included SECP (Securities and Exchanges Commission of Pakistan), FBR (Federal Board of Revenue), HEC (Higher Education Commission), IPO (Intellectual Property Organization), the State Bank, venture capital companies, startups, incubation centers, and the Ministries of Commerce, Industries and Finance.

A policy and framework for venture capital companies have been included as part of the Performance Agreement FY 2021-22 and 2022-23. Moreover, this task is also part of the mandate and responsibility of the Ministry of Science and Technology as per the Rules of Business 1973 as, “Initiate promotional measures for Establishment of venture capital companies for Technological Development and Growth”.

While addressing the conference, Senator Shibli Faraz said, “Start-up culture in Pakistan is a recent phenomenon and the main hurdle for entrepreneurs is that of financing. Our government, under the leadership of the honourable Prime Minister, aims at providing opportunities to startups and business.”

He added, “We need to identify those sectors for investment by venture capital companies which can lead to the technological development and growth.” Rector National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Lt. General (Rtd) Javed Mehmood Bukhari, Secretary MoST Akhtar Nazir, and keynote speaker Faisal Aftab, MD Zayn Capital, also addressed the conference.

While addressing the conference, Javed Mehmood Bukhari, Rector NUST, said, “Pakistani startups have attracted over $300 million of investment in this year so far, which is more than the combined investment obtained in the previous 6 years.”

“We at NUST firmly believe that something remarkable is happening with respect to the viability and credibility of the Pakistani market which is drawing the interest of international investors. The inclusivity of NSTP in bringing together academia and the industry is evident from the fact that there are as many as 100+ companies housed at NSTP owned by Pakistanis, foreigners, and ex-pats,” said Javed.

“The ecosystem is now ripe for venture capital investments to take it to its next natural step. This initiative is so relevant to the current economic and technological landscape of our country,” he further added.

Fun Gala Organised by Alkhidmat Faisalabad 

Faisalabad, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Alkhidmat Orphan Family Support Program in collaboration with Riphah International University Islamabad organized Art Gala, Health Screening and Talent Award Program in Faisalabad. The program included a variety of games for the entertainment of the children, face paintings, magic shows and mental training sessions for the children by the Department of Psychology. Prizes were given to the children who achieved remarkable success in the board exams.

Fatima Rabasha, an orphan girl who got 100% marks in the matriculation examination was awarded gifts and by the university and a laptop by Care Pharmacy. President Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, Muhammad Abdus Shakoor, Chairman Rafah International University Faisalabad, Mudassar Ahmed and other Alkhidmat officials participated in the program and addressed the children.

Christmas celebrations held at GCU 

Lahore, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Government College University Lahore faculty, staff members and students on Friday celebrated the Christmas with the university’s minority community. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi cut the Christmas cake with the university’s Christian staff and faculty members. The faculty members and administrative heads of university were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi said we not only accept the minorities but also celebrate them; they have same rights as we have in Pakistan. He added that GCU had always stood out for promoting tolerance and religious harmony. The Vice Chancellor announced special honorarium for the minority staff. Earlier, GCU minority staff members expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and other guests for celebrating Christmas with them. Karachi, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Red Crescent-Sindh with the support of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) distributed 318 blankets, 1133 body soaps, 424 clothes soaps, 212 water bottles, 212 school bags, 228 drawing books, 106 dinner sets, 99 boxes of face masks, and 212 sanitizer bottles to 407 women inmates and their children in Sukkur Women and Juvenile jail, Larkana Women and Juvenile Jail, Karachi CP women and Karachi Juvenile Jail. The activities of the Pakistan Red Crescent-Sindh’s Restoring Family Link (RFL) Department in Sindh province jails were highly praised by jail officials.
