Department of Soil and Climate Sciences organized a Symposium on World Soil Day 

Haripur, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Soil and Climate Sciences organized a symposium at Iqbal Hall, Ibn Sina Block on December 07th 2021. The event was conducted in support of the UOH Star Society.

The symposium was titled:

Climate Change and Soil Dynamics

Dr. Ali Raza Gurmani (Chief Event Organizer) opened the proceedings by welcoming the guests and participants. A student from post graduate college recited few verses of the Holy Quran. The session elaborated the following key points:

Dr. Shaukat Ali (GCISC, Ministry of Climate Change, Islamabad) was the guest of honour for this event and delivered his talk on “Climate Change and Soil Dynamics”. Poster, model and painting competition was also organized by the UOH Star Society among students at different schools and colleges of Haripur City.

The honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anwar-ul-Hassan Gilani (T.I., S.I.) graced the event with his remarks and stressed on the importance of climate change and world soil day for community. At the end, shields and souvenirs were presented to the guest with Prof. Dr. Abid Farid, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Applied Sciences and Dr. Ali Raza Gurmani, Chairman, Department of Soil and Climate Sciences.

The event was a huge success and students from all departments in the university actively participated. Students from Affiliate colleges also participated in handsome numbers. UOH Star society were the joint organizers for this successful event. This event marks a beginning of a new capacity building initiative at UoH.

Department of Sociology organizes Cultural Exhibition 

Islamabad, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):The department of sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences, FSS of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized one-day cultural exhibition at Hazrat Fatima-Tul- Zahra (RA) Block, Female Campus of the University. The objective of the exhibition was to represent the diversity of culture to promote harmony and peace in the society.

Dr. Sumiya Chughtai Students’ Advisor of female campus visited the exhibition. On this occasion she appreciated the efforts of Dr. Neelum Fareed, Dr. Huma Butt, Dr. Saira Batool and Ms. Ayesha Ijaz of Sociology Department, FSS, for organizing the successful cultural exhibition.

Exhibition was organized by students of Sociology Department (BS-I) semester who enthusiastically arranged the cultural exhibitions. Different groups of students presented their selves according to the provincial culture of Pakistan. Their cultural stalls represented cultural dress, food, art and craft. A large number of students visited these stalls and showed keen interest among cultural facts.

Art exhibition organized at Sindh University fascinates visitors

Jamshoro, December 21, 2021 (PPI-OT):An art exhibition of watercolour paint and pencil work of renowned artists of Sindh Abdul Majeed Mangi and Shakeel Ahmed Khaskheli was organized at the Institute of Art and Design (IAD), University of Sindh Jamshoro, which was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro here on Monday.

The exhibition was held at the Benazir Gallery of the institute, wherein the SU Vice-Chancellor, deans, teachers, officers and students viewed the art exhibition with keen interest and they praised the canvas and images created by artists Abdul Majeed Mangi and Shakeel Ahmed Khaskheli through watercolour paint and pencil works respectively.

The art exhibition showcased various cultural and historical places including palm trees, dates, and different parts of Kotdiji Fort and bridges of district Khairpur Mirs with watercolour paint that enthralled the visitors. The mountains, huts of Tharparkar, mud-built houses, shops and walls and other objects were also put on display, which were made through pencil work. After witnessing the exhibition, the vice-chancellor participated at the ceremony held in the art gallery of the institute which was organized by the director Prof. Saeed Ahmed Mangi and his team.

On the occasion, the renowned pencil artist Shakeel Ahmed Khaskheli played the flute and received a standing ovation from the visitors who had thronged to the IAD to see the exhibition were awestruck and mesmerized by the fascinating sound of the musical instrument. Famous artist Zulfiqar Ali Khan Qureshi made the audience sway by singing one of his famous songs “Yar Jaldi Milo” (Darling! See me soon). His performance captivated and enchanted the teachers and students equally and they could not help giving him a big hand.

Addressing the function, the SU Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro said that the works of artist Abdul Majeed Mangi and Shakeel Ahmed Khaskheli were excellent and professional adding that after seeing their creative work; it seemed as if he was touring the countryside!

He said that the urban students must have been astonished after looking at the art work of the eminent artists of Sindh. “What beautiful and charming landscapes there are in the rural areas of Sindh! I can say it after walking through your priceless pictures.

The Vice-Chancellor further observed that whether it was watercolour paint, pencil work or any other form of the art, it must be very difficult and it required all-out attention. He said that the way in which the artist had created various trees, bridges, roads, huts and other things with pencil work was simply amazing and it was heart-warming to see them.

Dr. Kalhoro said that Abdul Majeed Mangi and Shakeel Ahmed Khaskheli were the assets of Sindh as they had been trying to highlight the positive image of the country through their art work while the youth should be proud of them. He said that the Director Institute of Art and Design Saeed Ahmed Mangi knew the art of giving verve and vitality to every program he organized. “And even today, he has done it in a befitting manner”, he said.

He said that the services of the recently retired professor Dr. Mehmood-ul-Hassan Mughal and the incumbent Chairman Department of Media and Communication Studies Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan Qureshi were commendable as they had shined the name of the varsity in the world of Sindhi literature and art respectively adding that the SU employee Imdad Ali Khoso posted at the Institute of Art and Design was also hardworking and he had been serving his institute with distinction.

Dr Kalhoro said that the number of PhD teachers in Sindh University was unmatched by any other university and the enrollment of the students was also high while the quality of education was being ensured in every field the varsity was offering admissions.

Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Syed Javed Iqbal, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Wazir Ali Baloch and others also spoke on the occasion. Prof. Saeed Ahmed Mangi, Naimatullah Khilji, Sabeen Naeem and others presented bouquets and ajraks to the vice-chancellor, deans and other guest artists.

The event was attended by Dr. Arfana Begum Mallah, Dr. Muhammad Younis Leghari, Dr. Makhmour Bukhari, Dr. Mehmud-ul-Hassan Mughal, Dr. Ahmed Ali Brohi, Dr. Naimatullah Shah, Shaukat Khokhar and a large number of teachers and students of the institute.

Student Start Up Business Center is a platform at VU to foster entrepreneurial spirit in the students and to provide them conducive environment to nurture their business ideas into successful business ventures. This initiative is supported by Virtual University of Pakistan in collaboration with HEC-Pakistan, and PEP Foundation, USA. SSBC is envisioned to promote entrepreneurship among the students by encouraging them through business ideas competitions, providing them seed money, free office working space, free training facilities and provision of complete ongoing support and guidance to the successful incubates and counselling from the veteran entrepreneurs.

Terms and Conditions:

One student will be allowed to submit only one business idea; either individually or in a team.

A team should not be comprised of more than two members.

Each individual/team needs to submit innovative business idea and must not copy from any source.

Shortlisted business ideas will be invited for submission of full business plans.

Only practical and financially viable business plans will be shortlisted for presentation.

The business idea’s financial worth should not exceed Rs. 500,000.
