Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology organizes workshop on artificially intelligent 

Karachi, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Civil Engineering and Architecture Department of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology took lead to link the Road Safety with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and organized a workshop on Artificially Intelligent Transportation System at the campus.

Addressing the workshop, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin said that the Road safety is the major health issue in Pakistan and according to the latest WHO data published in 2018, Road Traffic Accidents Deaths in Pakistan reached 30,046 or 2.42% of total deaths. Pakistan stands 95 in the world in the ranking of road safety measures. The economically productive age groups (15 – 64 years) in Pakistan is involved in 75% of Road Crash Fatalities and Injuries. Moreover, 1,461 persons affected due to disability from road crash injuries per 100,000 people.

Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin advised the road users not to do reckless driving especially under the influence of drugs. Drivers should avoid using hand phone and playing loud music while driving. While speaking on “Karachi Road Safety Scenario and Efforts for Reducing Crash Burden”, the keynote speaker, renowned Neurology and Trauma Expert, Prof. Dr. Rashid Jooma, said that the 90% of traffic deaths occur in low and middle-income countries. Majority of road accidents are caused by drivers’ recklessness and speed driving. Pedestrians should know the road rights and responsibilities of other road users. Prof. Dr. Rashid Jooma highlighted need for policy dialog between all stakeholders effected by road crashes.

Keynote speech on Road Crash Analysis and Crash Worthiness Concepts was delivered by Engr. Dr. Omer Qureshi, CEO Automotive Design and Crashworthiness Research (ADCR), Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad. Giving a highly involved presentation, Dr. Omer Qureshi provided insight of various incidents happened in Pakistan with the help of scientific analysis of each of case studies discussed. The main thrust of his talk was crashes always leave marks behind and in-depth forensic analysis reveals the minute details of all minor factors leading to a major disaster. He concluded by saying that the approach of crash analysis should be to make roads safer for all road users.

Dr. Afzal Ahmed, ITS expert from NED University said that the public transport is safer than the private transport and 52% of total road accidents are caused by motorbike riders. Good Public transport system could reduce the number of motorbike riders, resulting in fewer accidents. We have heterogeneous and lane-less traffic stream. Nobody gives attention to the lateral and longitudinal gaps. Driver’s behaviour contribute to unsafe traffic. Dr. Afzal Ahmed shared results of using drone technology in road safety research.

Earlier, presenting welcome address, Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Prof. Dr. Mir Shabbar Ali said that the Internet of Things (IoT) can be an important part of our life. IoT in transportation would prevent damage and mitigate accidents to make road safer. It provides real-time data to drivers. Engr. Murtaza Asad, The Engineering Services (TES) spoke on “Bikers as an Important Road Safety Stakeholders, while Dr. Umar Talha of SSUET spoke on A-ITS Vision and Possible Road Safety Applications. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin gave memento to the guest speakers along with Registrar SSUET, Syed Sarfraz Ali.

In House Meeting with a five-member Iranian Delegation 

Islamabad, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East and Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) held an In-House Meeting with a five-member Iranian Delegation. The participants included: Seyed Rasoul Mousavi, Director General of West Asia at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mohammad Sorkhabi, Deputy Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Masood Haghighi, First Counsellor, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Dr. Hamaneh Karimi-Kia, Head of Press Section, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The discussion was moderated by Chairman Board of Governors ISSI, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood. Director CAMEA, Ms. Amina Khan, Directors of the Centre of Excellence at ISSI and members of the ISSI research team also attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by Lt. General Sabahat Hussain, Ambassador Abrar Hussain, Ambassador Naela Chohan, Ambassador Riffat Masood and Dr. Qandeel Abbas. The meeting focused on the situation in Afghanistan, specifically the humanitarian crisis, the upcoming OIC Summit in Islamabad, tensions in the Persian Gulf as well as the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.

UVAS 12th convocation to be on December 20 

Lahore, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):The 12th convocation of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore will be held on December 20. Governor Punjab Ch Muhammad Sarwar will preside over the convocation. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired the meeting of conveners and secretaries of subcommittees for the convocation here in City Campus Lahore. Arabic Language Teachers Training Workshop held

Islamabad, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Faculty of Arabic (FA), of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized 2nd Arabic Language Teachers Training Workshop at Female Campus of the University. The was attended by Arabic teachers of different schools in twin cities. The objective of the workshop was to enhance adequate knowledge of the Arabic Language among teachers, provide a unique opportunity to enhance Arabic teaching skills according to Single National Curriculum, strengthen professional development, and develop self confidence in teaching.

The Dean, Faculty of Arabic, Prof. Dr Fazlullah inaugurated the opening session of the workshop and said that teachers are the builders of nation and they must be provided such golden opportunities of learning, improving the knowledge and enhancing teaching skills. Prof. Dr. Samina Malik, Vice President (Female Campus), IIUI was the chief guest of the workshop who appreciated the efforts of faculty members and the organizing team for arranging this beneficial workshop. Dr. Aliya Akram, Chairperson Faculty of Arabic (Female Campus) welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of this workshop. She vowed that such workshops shall continue in future.

In this workshop various sessions were conducted on Arabic Teaching Methodologies by Resource Persons from the Faculty of Arabic, among them were Dr. Aliya Akram, Prof. Dr. Sausan Hassanein Ahmed Hassanein Elhodhod (Jamia tul Azhar), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Bashir and Dr. Fouzia Mir Taj. Dr. Sumyya Chughtai, Student Adviser (Female Campus) conducted the concluding ceremony of the workshop, Later, certificates and gifts were distributed to the participants of workshop.

DG UMT Abid Sherwani met with Afghan Higher Education Minister Abdul Haqqani 

Lahore, December 17, 2021 (PPI-OT):Director General University of Management and Technology (UMT), Abid Sherwani met with Alhaaj Abdul Baqi Haqqani, the Afghan Higher Education Minister for establishing resilient collaboration among both the countries and exchanged views on educational affairs.

Abid Sherwani expressed that the need of fostering education for the Afghan Youth is to eliminate cultural disparity, promote the love for learning and elevate the literacy levels that would contribute towards the progress of the nation. He further added that the key to the success of UMT depends on the inclusion of a mixture of cultures and diversity, a foundation stone laid by Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed). This is why students from 20 countries are getting quality education on scholarships at UMT.

The Afghan Higher Education Minister Abdul Haqqani expressed his thanks to DG UMT, Abid Sherwani and President UMT, Ibrahim Hasan Murad for their supportive role towards education in Afghanistan. Appreciating their efforts, he said that Afghanistan is pleased to hear about the 100 Scholarships for Afghan students and 10 PhD Scholarships for the teachers and researchers. The Afghan Minister added that this partnership will nurture further support in the arena of higher education of the two countries.
