Workshop on “The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research”

Rawalpindi, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Department of Economics, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi organized its Fourth Annual Workshop on ‘The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research’ virtually from Nov 29- Dec 1, 2021, in collaboration with Applied Economics Research Center (AERC), Karachi. The inaugural session held at 9:00 am on Nov 29, 2021.

Prof. Dr. Selim Raihan, Executive Director, South Asian Network on Economic Modeling, was the keynote speaker of the event. Dr. Bushra Yasmin, workshop coordinator, delivered the welcome address. She showed her profound gratitude to Prof. Dr. Selim Raihan for gracing the event as chief guest. She also thanked the Vice Chancellor FJWU, Dr. Saima Hamid and Director AERC, Prof. Dr. Samina Khalil for their support in making the workshop series sustainable and more dynamic.

While introducing the participants with the objective of this three days extensive workshop, Dr. Yasmin elaborated that the workshop has been designed to include thought provoking lectures and building an in-depth understanding of various stages of data analysis, using a variety of specialized softwares including SPSS, STATA and R. Prof. Dr. Raihan delivered his keynote address on ‘Quantitative Tools and Techniques in Research on International Trade’.

While highlighting the importance of quantitative research techniques with specific relevance for international trade, Dr. Raihan talked about the cutting-edge issues of international trade and key approaches of economic modelling including Ex ante Vs Ex post, Econometric Vs Simulation and Partial Vs General equilibrium approaches. He concluded his talk by stressing the understanding of the ToRs while doing any economic assessment as the choice of the model depends on the nature of the problem to investigate and also on the modeler’s perception about the economy. The inaugural session was followed by the training session on SPSS by Mr. Hamad Manzoor, Lecturer, Department of Economics, FJWU.

Poster Painting Competition:

Women Research and Resource Centre, is organizing an inter-department poster painting competition to commemorate 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence in collaboration with ROZAN for FJWU students.

Date: December 10, 2021

Timings: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Theme: “Violence in the place of work”

Submission Deadline: December 6, 2021.

Venue for Submission: WRRC Office

Prize money will also be awarded to students getting the first three positions and certificates will be given to all the participants. Prizes are as follows:

Following are the Rules and Regulations for the Poster Painting Competition being organized to commemorate 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The theme for the competition is Violence in the Place of Work

All students have to submit their posters by 2pm on December 6, 2021.

Qualifications:

In order to qualify for a place on the program you will need to meet the following requirements:

You are a Bachelor or Master student (not Ph.D.) in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics and should have completed, by the European Summer 2022, at least three years of full-time studies at the university level.

You will remain registered as a student during your stay at CERN. If you expect to graduate during European summer 2022 (as of May), you are also eligible to apply.

You have not worked at CERN before with any other status (Technical Student, Trainee, User, or another status) for more than 3 months and you have not been previously a Summer Student at CERN.

You have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

A contract of association of 8 to 13 weeks to work on a technical project.

An extensive physics lecture program (students will also be able to attend a series of IT lectures organized by Openlab).

A travel allowance on a lump sum basis is paid at the end of your stay to help you with the cost of travel between Geneva and your residence at the time of the selection committee.

UET Centennial Gala-EHS UET organizes Painting, Sketching and Calligraphy exhibition 

Lahore, November 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Environment and Horticultural Society (EHS) University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore organized an exhibition of painting, sketching and calligraphy which was held at Main Auditorium Complex. The exhibition was consisted of Inter Departmental Art and Painting Competitions. Large number of students from different departments participated in the competition.

The exhibition depicted historical importance of university. There were number of portraits, sceneries, sketches standing, sitting, and reclining all so beautiful, majestic and wonderful. The theme and lightening system tended everyone to come and absorb the deepness of every masterpiece. Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Mansoor Sarwar and Director Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser along with Chairpersons of different departments visited the exhibition.
