PU Department of History marks I-Day

Lahore, August 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Department of History and Pakistan Studies has organized a program regarding Independence Day. On this occasion Chairman Department of History and Pakistan Study Prof Dr Mehboob Hussain, Ghazi Muhammad Abdullah, President of Ibn-e-Khaldun Society Muhammad Yasir Khan, faculty members, students and employees were present.

In his address, Dr Mehboob Hussain appreciated the Ibn-e-Khaldun Society organizers and student advisor Dr. Muhammad Altaf for successfully organizing the event. He discussed Pakistan’s early constitutional issues and highlighted the significance of parliament and stressed the importance to make it a strong institution.

Later, Ghazi Muhammad Abdullah, a senior faculty member of the department, was called on stage to share his thoughts. He briefly outlined the hardships that Indian Muslims had to face to achieve Pakistan. Furthermore, he advised the students to re-examine the question of Muslim identity and consciousness as a distinct nation that played instrumental role in the freedom struggle of India’s Muslims.

In addition, he also gave references to several historical records to clear up some of the common misunderstandings about Pakistan’s origins. While explaining how we can solve the current issues of Pakistan, he emphasized the need to strength state institutions especially the parliament and judiciary. It started with the recitation of the Holy Quran.

After that, a Sufi Qalam was sung by Khushal Khan, a student of BS History. Muhammad Yasir Khan, the president of Ibn-e-Khaldun Society, welcomed the respected teachers and students. He shared his thoughts on the challenges that Pakistan still faces after seventy-five years of its independence. He ended his talk with the singing of one of the finest poems of Faiz Ahmad Faiz.

Afterward, Zara Shabir, a student of BS History, injected the spirit of patriotism by singing a national song with her sweet voice. Amal Islam, another student of BS History, spoke about Pakistan as envisioned by Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The main theme of her talk revolved around “Are We Free While Celebrating the 75th independence Day.” In addition, a quiz competition was held to engage the students. The event was concluded with playing national anthem.

CM Ch Parvez Elahi promises intensive development work in every constituency 

Lahore, August 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Naeemuddin Waraich, a PTI ticket-holder from NA-171 in Bahawalpur called on Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi along with Gujarat-based industrialist Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmad Waraich.

The CM vowed to carry out intensive development work in every constituency including Bahawalpur. A Rescue 1122 centre will be established in Khairpur Tamewali tehsil along with improvement in civic amenities; he told and announced upgrading schools as well. The incumbent government would perform such works that the people may remember like the reforms of my first tenure, said Parvez Elahi.

This government would not indulge in revengeful politics like N-League as PML-Q has always promoted positive political norms in society, he highlighted. The people know who did the work and who took revenge. ‘We are convinced of tolerance and respect in politics, ‘he added.

Chairman PTI Imran Khan is the most popular leader of Pakistan. Parvez Elahi said, ‘we are with Imran Khan and would continue to support him. Punjab would be transformed into an ideal province according to Imran Khan’s vision.

The government was engaged in doing everything that could give relief to the common man; he said and noted that urgent measures have been initiated to improve the standard of life. Instead of a one-man show, I took the whole team along for composite development; concluded the CM.

Naeemuddin Waraich noted that the reforms of the Parvez Elahi-led government have become an example for the people while his previous tenure was a period of record development and he started public welfare works as soon as he came into power.

Sindh Reeling through its worst natural disaster: 300 lives lost, 10 m turn homeless, Rs650 billion losses to infrastructure and crops due to incessant queues of heavy rain spells, says Surendar Valasai

Karachi, August 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Three hundred people have lost their lives in Sindh province, which has also suffered losses of upto Rs 650 million, an amount almost equal to 3 billion dollars and an estimated population of 10 million have been affected due to incessant queues of heavy rain spells since last month.

This was stated by Surendar Valasai, Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister for Human Rights. “Damages are have been multiplying from the day one the first torrential bout and are continuing with no respite from the downpours, he added.

According to data collected from different sources, infrastructure losses worth Rs350 billion have been reported in which 2300 kilometres of roads were dilapidated while 45 bridges also suffered damages. Sixty per cent of the cotton crop sown on 1,480,000 acres have been wiped out. Ninety per cent of chilies cultivated on 126,000 acres stands destroyed. Eighty per cent of the onion and 45 per cent of rice crops have also been damaged.

Surendar Valasai said that Sindh growers have warned of a food security. Sindh government has released Rs280 million for providing instant relief to the people affected by rains. Orders have been placed with manufacturers for making 200,000 tents as all the tents available in the market have already been purchased by government and others in the wake of rains and subsequent flooding. Millions of people have become homeless during last one and a half month requiring 1 million tents to accommodate them temporarily.

He said that 1.5 million houses have collapsed or damaged in almost all the districts of Sindh as the province received 600 per cent more rains during this monsoon, which is unprecedented in last 65 years.

Surendar Valasai pointed out that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is the only national leader who himself visited different affected areas along with the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and personally met with the victims. The PPP Chairman has directed the Sindh government to mobilize all its resources for relief operations. All the Ministers, PPP legislators and Party leaders are also on the ground to help the affectees.

Surendar Valasai attended the relief camp established by Pakistani Sweet Home Patron and former MNA Zamrud Khan in cooperation with the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) outside National Press Club, Islamabad together with Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Qamaruz Zaman Kaira and Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed. The relief camp was established to collect charity for the rain and flood victims.

He said that it was time for whole of Pakistan to pool up their resources to help the victims of Sindh, Balochistan, South Punjab and other parts of the country. The nation needs to stand up at the time when more than half of Pakistan is undergoing a catastrophic human tragedy.
