Karachi, Pasban Democratic Party Highlights Plight of Farmers Under Current Policies

Karachi, Pasban Democratic Party Vice Chairman Khalil Ahmed Thand emphasized the critical link between national prosperity and the well-being of farmers, citing current government policies as a significant factor in the hardships faced by the agricultural community.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Thand articulated the challenges during a statement released by the party’s press information cell. He pointed out the severe economic strain on farmers who, despite their essential role in feeding the nation and contributing significantly to the national treasury through agricultural exports, struggle to meet basic needs due to unfavorable government practices. Thand criticized the government’s handling of wheat stocks and market policies, which he claimed favor capital investors over the agricultural workers who labor for months to cultivate crops.

Thand argued that the government’s failure to adequately inform farmers about wheat import decisions such as those involving Ukrainian wheat prevents them from making informed market choices, leaving them vulnerable and financially unstable. He advocated for recognizing agriculture as an industry and called for the implementation of comprehensive and beneficial policies to safeguard and enrich farmers’ lives.

Highlighting the broader societal impacts, Thand warned of severe consequences if farmers were to strike, reflecting on the potential crisis such action could precipitate given their central role in the nation’s food security. He underscored the disparity in how the government treats different sectors of the economy, with corrupt practices allowing some to exploit the system at the expense of the primary producers.
