Ambassador of Somalia calls on IIUI President 

Islamabad, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Shirwa Abdullahi Ibrahim called on H.E. Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) at his office at Faisal Masjid campus. During the meeting issues pertaining to mutual interests including promotions of education and enhancement of educational ties between higher education institutions of both countries were discussed.

The Somalian Ambassador lauded IIUI for its services to promote higher education and also appreciated the university’s vision of disseminating peace and tolerance. He assured that he will be happy to strengthen bilateral educational ties between IIUI and Somalian universities. He said IIUI is a source of attraction for a large number of students in Somalia. He thanked the IIU President for taking a very good care of the Somalian students at IIUI.

IIU President apprised the Ambassador of the university’s scope, vision, new strategic plan, international students, recent activities and history. He said IIU is eager to welcome and facilitate more Somalian students at IIUI. He opined that IIU has a diversified cultural environment where a large number of countries being represented by foreign students. Dr. Hathal also briefed honourable Ambassador about the role of IIUI in maintaining peace and quality higher education.

UVAS arranged meeting on ‘Humanitarian Assistance Campaign for Flood Affected Families in Punjab’ 

Lahore, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Government of the Punjab arranged a meeting on ‘Humanitarian Assistance Campaign for Flood Affected Families in Punjab’ at City Campus Lahore on Friday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) presided over the meeting and sought suggestion and inputs from UVAS senior faculty members for providing veterinary services, vaccine, animal nutrition like (feed, vunda) and strategy that how to rescue livestock farming community animals from different diseases (PPR, Foot and Mouth, Hemorrhagic Fever, Dairreah) in flood affected areas (Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajan Pur and Taunsa Sharif) etc.

Director General (Extension) Livestock Department Dr Ehtisham, Principal CVAS Jhang Prof Dr Fiaz Qamar, Principal KBCMA-CVAS Narowal Prof Dr Younus Rana, Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz, Registrar Sajjad Hyder and a number of faculty members from different campuses and department of UVAS were present on the occasion.

While addressing the participants of meeting, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad constituted three committees for fund raising, vaccine collection from allied pharmaceutical industries and for field work in the flood affected areas to provide treatment facilities at the door step of livestock farming families to save their animals. He said UVAS faculty members and students always willing and enthusiastic to perform such services for the noble cause.

Dr Ehtisham said that Livestock Department willing to provide all necessary assistance, vaccine and resources to UVAS rescue teams for successfully perform their duties. He said maximum deserving and needy families get benefits from their services. The participants of meeting also suggested the line of action that how to UVAS rescue team members will serve their duties in the odd circumstances, necessary arrangements for equipment in the badly affect areas.

PUCAD organizes Anna Molka Awards and Exhibition 

Lahore, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):The ceremony of second Anna Molka Awards was held at the Grand Hall of the College of Art and Design. The award has been divided into two main categories mainly for artists under forty years, for those who are above this age. The selected work, by the committee comprised prominent artists and art critics, has also been displayed as a show par excellence. Prominent artist and academician Dr Rahat Naved Masud inaugurated the show whereas Prof Dr Amra Raza, Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the varsity, attended the ceremony as guest of honour.

College Principal Prof Dr Sumera Jawad welcomed all the guests and artists who participated in this unique exhibition. She also congratulated the winners of the second Anna Molka Award and also briefed the audience about the aims and objectives behind this award and the related exhibition. The ceremony and the show were attended by the college faculty, students, artists and art lovers in great number. The show would remain open for a week for visitors.

Punjab University Library Book Club Talks – August 2022 

Lahore, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Library Book Club has arranged a book talk program. The two books of the month were “Karorh Paka ki Neleema” by Muhammad Iqbal Diwan and “Climate Change” by Mike Hulme. Principal College of Earth and Environmental Sciences Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmed presented the talk on the book of Mike Hulme. He explained the impact of climate change on the world’s politics, sociology and economy.

The introduction to the Urdu novel of Muhammad Iqbal Diwan was presented Senior Librarian of College of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences Dr Riffat Aslam. She described the main plot and literary style of the novel which was about social and political hitches of Pakistan. PU Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani thanked the speakers and participants for their contribution to the program.

Jhang parliamentarians call on CM Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Parliamentarians from Jhang including Sahibzada Muhammad Mahboob Sultan, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana, Rana Shahbaz Ahmad and Azam Chela called on Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his office to discuss political issues, development projects and rehabilitation of flood victims on Friday.

The CM said that no effort would be spared for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, adding that the government has waived off water and land revenue charges in the flood-hit areas besides setting up a five billion rupees fund to expedite the rehabilitation work. Philanthropists should also come forward to lend a helping hand as this motherland demands us to serve the people in need, he added.

The CM maintained that he is fully determined to serve the ailing humanity and this commitment would be fulfilled. It is sanguine that the Pakistani nation has always come up to the expectations in every hour of trial. The government would meet the challenge of rehabilitating the flood victims with renewed spirit and determination, he concluded. The parliamentarians noted that the provincial government was at the forefront to help the affectees and CM Parvez Elahi was the first to reach out to the flood victims.

Foreign Minister and Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari appeals to the UN to play its due role in the rehabilitation of Pakistan’s flood victims 

Sukkur, August 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan Mr Julien Harneis called on Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari here on Friday. Foreign Minister appealed to the United Nations to play its due role in the rehabilitation of heavy rain and flood victims of Pakistan.

During the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Julien Harneis discussed the deadly flood damages in the country. Julien Harneis expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of human lives due to the heavy rains and floods. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari acknowledged the efforts of the United Nations for the flood victims and urged that the United Nations should play its role in the international assistance for millions of marooned people from flood-hit areas. Foreign Minister said that Pakistan will soon appeal to the international body for emergency assistance.
