Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance to launch PhD in Business Management 

Lahore, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance (HCBF) will launch Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Management as it has received formal approval from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Letter No. 1-68/2022/QAD-NOC/HEC/TUOP/565 dated 23rd August 2022. In this regard, faculty members and students of the college have congratulated HCBF Principal Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan for achieving this milestone.

Dr Khan has said research was the primary function of every university. He said it was an academic function which created new knowledge and also attracts projects and grants. He believed that research on timely and important topics attracted attention, which in turn led to greater institutional visibility and reputation.

He added that strength in research helped define a university’s “brand” in the national and international marketplace, impacting everything from student recruitment, faculty retention and attracted new investments. He said that HCBF students would benefit from studying in an environment rich in research and creativity. He said that HCBF would announce admissions in PhD Business Management program very soon.

Tiktok, Zindagi Trust initiate digital safety workshops in Govt Schools

Karachi, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):Famous video sharing app TikTok, in collaboration with Zindagi Trust, has initiated a series of workshops across their network of government schools in a bid to create awareness around digital safety among students, teachers and parents.

A statement issued by the partners said that about 3,000 students, teachers and parents will learn about safe usage of the internet, with a focus on social media. A separate workshop for teachers and parents will also be conducted, seeking to educate them on how they can ensure the safety of youngsters on the internet, it added.

According to the statement, young internet users from grades 7 to 9 will learn about practices of internet usage, and how can they become responsible digital citizens and cultivate a safe online community across the nation.

The workshops will cover a range of topics including navigating online safety issues such as cyber-bullying, cat fishing and false information. There will be detailed modules on the harmful behaviours prevalent on social media, ways to share appropriate information, identifying fake news and misinformation and reporting mechanisms to report illicit and harmful content on social media.

The statement said that the workshops also aim to educate teachers and parents on how to use safety features on platforms like TikTok to ensure their children remain safe on social media. They will be guided about TikTok’s family pairing features, which allow parents to link their TikTok accounts to their teens’ and set controls including screen time management, restricted mode and direct messages.

Farah Tukan, head of government relations and public policy in Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Pakistan (METAP) at TikTok, said: “These workshops are another step in the right direction for ensuring our TikTok community in Pakistan remains digitally safe. We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of Pakistan‘s digital community, as we continue implementing policies and processes to proactively identify and prevent every attempt to share inappropriate content on our platform.”

Zindagi Trust’s Senior Marketing and Resource Development Manager Faiq Ahmed said: “It’s about time to create awareness among the young generation about digital safety so they can deal with safety and privacy challenges on the internet.”

CM Ch Parvez Elahi directs CS to visit the flood affected areas forthwith and oversee the relief activities 

Lahore, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi presided over Disaster Management Ministerial Committee meeting being held at CMO today. Provision of relief activities relating to the flood affected areas in Rajanpur, Taunsa and Dera Ghazi Khan came under review.

CM directed Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal to visit the flood affected areas forthwith and further directed him to oversee the relief activities for the flood affectees. CM further directed to expedite rescue and relief operation and all institutions should help the flood affectees in a unison manner. He stated that unexpected water came into the streams of Koh-e-Suleman due to torrential rains.

CM vowed that the Punjab government will not leave any stone unturned to help their affected brothers and sisters in the prevailing situation. It was decided during the meeting to enhance the financial aid of the heirs of the deceased persons due to heavy flood and rains. He disclosed that we would redress the losses being occurred to the houses, fields and the livestock.

CM directed to timely provide food to the people in the relief camps and directed to ensure provision of dry edibles and food hampers to the affectees present in the relief camps. Parvez Elahi directed to increase the number of medical camps in order to prevent the infectious diseases in the affected areas adding that the Livestock Department should ensure provision of surplus fodder for the animals as well.

CM directed to provide essential facilities to the affectees in the relief camps. Provincial Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat, Syed Abbas Ali Shah, Sardar Asif Nakai, Ali Afzal Sahi, Dr. Akhtar Malik, Brig. (R) Ejaz Shah, Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal and concerned officials attended the meeting.

CM Ch Parvez Elahi administers anti-polio drops to children 

Lahore, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Dr Akhtar Malik and Shahbaz Ahmad MPA administered anti-polio drops to the children at his office on Wednesday. The CM stated that more than 22 million children, under five years of age, would be given anti-polio vaccines in the national anti-polio campaign ending on August 28. More than two lakh workers would go door-to-door to protect children from poliovirus, he added.

Thanks to Allah Almighty, no polio case has come to light in Punjab since October 2020; he said and pointed out that Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Lahore would be given special attention due to positive environmental patterns.

Positive environmental patterns are a clear message that parents must give their children anti-polio vaccine drops, he stressed. We must adopt every measure to protect our children from poliovirus; the CM asserted and emphasised that all must play their role to eliminate polio to secure the future of the children. Umar Farooq MPA, Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Khan Bhatti, secretary health, secretary information, DC Lahore, focal person of UNICEF and others were also present.

PTI leader Parvez Khattak calls on CM Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):A PTI leader and former federal minister Parvez Khattak met with Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his office and discussed matters of mutual interest including rehabilitation of flood affectees. Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain and former federal minister Moonis Elahi were also present.

Parvez Elahi pointed out that line departments have been fully mobilized for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.

The government has announced a special aid package; a waiver of water and land revenue charges in flood-hit areas by declaring them calamity-hit as the provincial government was firmly standing with the flood victims, he said. Meanwhile, I went to Rajanpur and Taunsa to meet the victims and assess the situation, he added.

The Punjab government has provided the best possible resources for the rehabilitation of the victims. Pakistan Army teams are also helping the civil administration in their rescue and relief operations; the CM said and thanked Corps Commander Multan and Pakistan Army for their timely support.

Similarly, the services of police, administration, PDMA and rescue 1122 are also commendable as the rescue teams of the Punjab government are reaching out to every affected person; he mentioned and maintained that this is the time to go beyond mundane politics and help the distressed denizens.

It is a pity that the PMLN has not stopped politics even on an issue like a flood as the politicization of human lives is the usual modus operandi of the PMLN. There is no fear of Allah Almighty in their hearts, nor the pain of suffering humanity, he lamented. Parvez Khattak praised the steps taken by the Punjab government under the leadership of CM Parvez Elahi for helping the flood victims on time.

Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood appoints Aisam-ul-Haq as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Punjab government 

Lahore, August 24, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan’s international tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq called on Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood at National Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday. On this occasion, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood appointed Aisam-ul-Haq as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Punjab government and also presented him a souvenir. Director Admin Syed Omair Hasan was also present on this occasion.

Talking on this occasion, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood said definitely the game of tennis is identified in Pakistan through the name of Aisam-ul-Haq. “Punjab government will fully patronize Ace Tennis Academy established by Aisam-ul-Haq in Lahore. The players of this academy will also train in the newly-built tennis courts adjacent to Punjab Tennis Stadium,” the minister added.

Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood said Aisam-ul-Haq is a role model for young tennis players of the country. “We are working for the betterment and promotion of tennis sport in Pakistan. A special programme of tennis talent hunt will also be started in Punjab in near future”. Pakistan’s international tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq on this occasion thanked Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Taimoor Masood for appointing him Goodwill Ambassador the Punjab government.
