Visit of ACDA Internship Program

Islamabad, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The ACDA internship Program interns and officials visited IST on Tuesday 24 May 2022 at 1000 Hrs.

Dean IST received the interns and officials and in his briefing apprised them of the salient features of IST academic departments and labs/ research centers along with Q and A session.

Afterward, Interns / Officials visited the following IST laboratories in a group of four (4) batches.

1. ATH Hanger

2. Center for Vibration Testing and Condition Monitoring

3. Scanning Electron Microscopy Lab (SEM Lab)

4. X-Ray Diffraction Lab (XRD Lab)

5. Small Satellite Technology and Research Lab (SSTR Lab)

After the Labs visit, a group photograph was taken and Dean IST thanked and appreciated the interns/officials for their visit.

UCP organized an interactive session on “How HR Strategies work in organization”

Lahore, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, UCP organized an interactive session on ‘How HR Strategies work in organization’. The resource person was M. Imran Fayyaz, a Performance-Driven Retailer and Marketing Professional currently working as General Manager of Sourcing and Merchandising at CARREFOUR Pakistan. The interactive session aimed to motivate and enlighten the students with the knowledge and practical implementation of HR strategies in Pakistani culture.

Also, it helped students to understand HR Principles and how it is related to the work environment. The role of psychology in HR, Internship plans, field visits, training methods, job opportunities and career development were discussed. Students took keen interest and asked questions that the resource person answered. In the end, Prof. Dr Fehmida Sultana (Dean, Faculty of Arts and social sciences) presented a souvenir to the Guest speaker. It was held on 23rd May 2022 in the Webinar Room C-Building at the University of Central Punjab.

IBA Karachi and USAID agree to academic cooperation under HESSA

Karachi, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi, and University of Utah (UU) as a partner of USAID, signed an agreement to facilitate the implementation of capacity-building activities under the Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) project. The signing ceremony was held at the IBA Main Campus. Dr. S Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, IBA, and Dr. Aslam Chaudhry, Research Professor, Dept. of Economics and Chief of Party, USAID/Pakistan HESSA Project, University of Utah, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.

The IBA team included, Dr. Saima Husain, Assistant Professor and Director QEC; Dr. Shakeel Khoja, Dean, School of Mathematics and Computer Science; Dr. Asma Hyder, Dean, School of Economics and Social Sciences; Dr. Abdullah Zafar Sheikh, Professor, School of Business Studies; and other faculty members. The UU was represented by Mr. Naveed Ali, Admin and Finance Manager, USAID/HESSA.

Dr. Saima Husain apprised the audience about the HESSA project, explaining that the UU has been awarded a grant by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to implement the HESSA Project in Pakistan. The HESSA Project will provide technical assistance to several Pakistani universities in delivering high-quality, market-driven education and research. Furthermore, IBA, Karachi has been selected as one of the HESSA partner universities in its Tier 1 category. This project will primarily focus on facilitating public-sector universities.

Under this collaboration, HESSA intends to provide capacity-building support to the IBA in areas including, leadership development including women leadership, strategic planning, resource mobilization, institutional governance, faculty development, curriculum reform and modernization, research management, and student support.

Welcoming Dr. Chaudhry, Dr. Zaidi said that out of around 245 public-sector universities in Pakistan, the IBA was one of the five institutions to be selected from the top tier universities. Under the program, around thirty IBA faculty members will be mentored in areas including, leadership, academic and research management. Dr. Zaidi further added that as a leading public-sector institution, the IBA can play the role of a mentor and facilitate other universities in terms of pedagogy and academic best practices.

Dr. Chaudhry stated that under this project, five universities had been selected in each of the three tiers, and together these fifteen universities will work with the higher education system and collaborate to develop strengths and overcome challenges. He said that the project will be targeted towards developing the leadership, faculty development and students support services.

Meeting of the Foreign Minister with Foreign Minister of Turkey

Karachi, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was hosted over dinner by H.E. Mevlut Cavusoglu, Foreign Minister of Republic of Turkey, in Ankara today. While thanking his Turkish counterpart for the warm hospitality, the Foreign Minister noted that the bilateral relations between the two countries were grounded in love and affection that the two peoples had for each other.

The two Foreign Ministers held an all-encompassing exchange of views on a range of subjects and took stock of the ongoing cooperation in various fields. The Foreign Minister underlined that the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) and the Strategic Economic Framework (SEF) continued to serve as useful mechanisms for taking bilateral relations to a higher plane. Pakistan looked forward to the session of HLSCC later this year in Turkey. The Foreign Minister thanked the Turkish Government for its steadfast support and principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional issues. The Foreign Minister appreciated Turkey’s contribution towards peace and security in its immediate neighbourhood and beyond. On Afghanistan, the Foreign Minister underscored the need for continued engagement between the international community and the interim Afghan government to achieve shared objectives of peace, stability and progress in Afghanistan.

The Foreign Minister also appreciated the constructive role of Turkey in the Ukraine crisis and personal efforts of the Turkish Foreign Minister in promoting dialogue and diplomacy. The Foreign Minister is accompanying the Prime Minister on an official visit to Turkey. It was the second meeting of the two Foreign Ministers in less than a month.

Pakistani Higher Education Institutes sign partnership agreements with UNESCO’s Centre for the futures of higher education at the IIOE National Centre, UET Lahore

Lahore, June 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, as the National Centre of International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) in Pakistan, organized an agreement signing ceremony with its partner universities in Pakistan to collaboratively facilitate the quality futures of digital transformation of higher education system to jointly pave the way to support Online and Blended Teaching and Learning (OBTL) by incorporating capacity building and competencies enhancement efforts for university teachers at national level.

Besides, a certificate distribution ceremony for the IIOE courseware competition was also held to handover the awards among Pakistani winners. Vice-Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Chief of IIOE management Centre and Director a.i of UNESCO-ICHEI Mr. LYU Feng, Chief of Asia-Pacific Programme Office of UNESCO-ICHEI Ms. Li Fan, Programme Specialist, UNESCO-ICHEI Mr. Hassan Adeel Shahzad, Director, Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Deans of all faculties from UET Lahore, IIOE competition winners, representatives from other partners HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) attended the event.

The event kicked off with the opening remarks of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Mr. LYU Feng; Chief of Asia Pacific Program Office Ms. Li Fan, and Director KICS Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood briefed on the introduction and plans for upcoming events of IIOE National Centre Pakistan situated at UET Lahore. Mr. Lyu Feng emphasized that IIOE National Centre for Pakistan, established at UET Lahore, will streamline the future work and coordination by implementing various upcoming projects with respect to teachers’ capacity building and professional development, to expand quality educational resources and content, to strengthen domain-specific research and knowledge sharing, to promote blending teaching and learning, and to boost the poll of Pakistani experts of digitalized higher education at world arena.

Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor LCWU, Prof. Dr. Zubair Shaikh, President of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi, Dr. Aisha Mehmood from the University of Education Lahore, signed the agreement representing their universities. Ms. Sadia Nawaz and Dr. Aisha Mahmood from the University of Education got the 1st prize whereas Dr. Muhammad Umair Ahmad Khan, and Dr. Sayyed Mohsin Ali Kazmi from UET Lahore got the 2nd prize in the IIOE courseware competition. Mr. Hassan Adeel Shehzad, Programme Specialist from UNESCO-ICHEI, presented the gifts to Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice-Chancellor UET Lahore and Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director KICS, and received souvenir from respected Vice Chancellor and Director KICS.
