Business School Graduates Enter White-Hot Job Market as Employers Signal Growth, Confidence in Their Credentials

MBA and business master’s degrees remain hot commodity despite recession fears and COVID challenges

RESTON, Va., June 29, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), a global association of leading graduate business schools, today released its annual hiring report, the GMAC Corporate Recruiters Survey – 2022 Summary Report. The report explores the state of employer demand for graduate business school talent (MBA and business master’s degree recipients) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and includes responses from nearly 1,000 corporate recruiters and staffing firms around the world. While rising inflation and the war in Ukraine were just at the onset during the time when the survey was conducted in February and March 2022, hiring projections of graduate management education (GME) graduates remain bullish this year, with 92 percent of corporate recruiters expecting to hire newly minted MBAs. Promisingly, 2 in 3 responding corporate recruiters describe the current direction of their organization as expanding or growing (67%) and a similar proportion plan to increase their overall headcount (65%). Also, most recruiters (63%) project that demand for new business school talent will increase in the next five years, with business master’s hiring intention the highest among recruiters for East and Southeast Asia and Middle East companies.

“The latest GMAC findings of the Corporate Recruiters Survey show that nearly 9 out of 10 corporate recruiters feel confident or highly confident in the ability of business schools to prepare students to be successful in their organizations,” said Sangeet Chowfla, president and CEO of GMAC. “That’s an extraordinary figure. It shows that despite the pandemic and the limitations it brought on student mobility, public and mental health, and remote learning, business schools managed to find ways to build an impressive cohort whom corporate recruiters and staffing agencies worldwide continue to bank on as prime sources for talent.”

Other Key Findings

MBA starting salaries continue to provide a premium and Business master’s median starting salaries are on the rise

Recruiter responses suggest companies in the United States plan to offer increased starting salaries to business master’s graduates in 2022 compared to last year. In addition, median MBA starting salary levels eclipse those being offered to bachelor’s graduates by 22 percent to 40 percent across the world regions for which there is sufficient sample to report. Median starting salaries are largest in the United States, where the median starting salary offered to new MBA hires this year ─ US$115,000 — has remained unchanged for the past three survey years. In the current inflationary environment, the relative stability of median MBA salaries suggested by the survey findings means the real value of MBA salaries is declining.

In a likely response to combat the effect of inflation, corporate recruiters look to benefits packages—including educational assistance—to meet the changing needs of new graduates. Educational assistance like tuition reimbursement and scholarships has become an increasingly common benefit, with 54 percent offering it in 2022—up from 35 percent last year.

U.S. international hiring bounced back to pre-pandemic levels with potential of continued growth for 2022

The world regions with the highest percentage of recruiters affirming that they plan to hire international candidates in 2022 are the Middle East (52%) and Western Europe (40%). In the United States, this year’s survey results suggest an improving situation for international MBA and business master’s graduates. Looking back at last year’s actual hiring, 43 percent of U.S. recruiters confirmed they hired international talent in 2021—a bounce back from 35 percent in 2020 and 41 percent in 2019. In this year’s survey, 56 percent of U.S. recruiters say that they either plan to make international hires in 2022 (35%) or are willing to (21%), up from 48 percent that said the same in the 2021 survey. Furthermore, 83 percent of U.S. tech companies say they either plan to make international hires in 2022 (62%) or are willing to (21%)—the most of any U.S. industry.

“As travel restrictions ease around the world and student mobility continues to bounce back, we are thrilled to have more international students back on campuses across the country. Our mission is to help our students find success and our graduates reap the benefits of the strong job market in the U.S.,” said incoming GMAC Board Member and Dean of Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business Isabelle Bajeux-Besnainou.

Global corporate recruiters appear to be becoming more accepting of online degrees—with the noteworthy exception of the United States

The percentage of global recruiters who view graduates of online and in-person GME programs equally increased from 34 percent in 2021 to 60 percent in 2022, suggesting a significant growth in the acceptance of online programs. However, the notable outlier is corporate recruiters in the United States—where the lion’s share of the world’s online MBA enrollments are. Among responding U.S. corporate recruiters, just 29 percent agree that they view graduates of online and in-person GME programs equally, the lowest of any world region and down from 33 percent of respondents from the 2021 sample.

“The growth of online MBA programs has been so strong in the United States that for the first time, the total number of enrollments in online programs exceeded that of full-time, in-person MBA enrollments in the 2020-21 academic year, according to data from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB),” said Sabrina White, vice president of school and industry engagement at GMAC. “Business schools are presented a unique opportunity to align expectations and outcomes for graduates and employers as online delivery emerges from the pandemic as an important part of the graduate management education industry.”

About the Report
First launched more than two decades ago, the Corporate Recruiters Survey of 2022 was conducted by GMAC, together with survey partners EFMD and the MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance (MBA CSEA), in association with the career services offices at participating graduate business schools worldwide. In a change from previous years, GMAC Research worked with a market research firm to recruit additional participants to make the overall sample more globally representative. In total, 941 respondents from 38 countries completed this survey, including 539 corporate recruiters and 402 from staffing firms. Recognizing that nearly all responses in previous years came from corporate recruiters, only 2022 responses from corporate recruiters were leveraged to create multi-year comparisons. However, the robust sample of corporate recruiters and staffing firms allowed us to develop geographical snapshots in 2022 that were less apparent in previous years.

PK-7 Swat-VI By-Election: Low Female Turnout, Vote Secrecy Issues Persist

Islamabad, June 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Abysmally low female turnout and inadequate arrangements to protect secrecy of vote coupled with widespread instances of campaigning and canvassing on Election Day remain major issues clouding the by-election in PK-7 Swat-VI that was otherwise peaceful with generally compliant voting and counting processes, observes Free and Fair Election Network in its report.

Only 6,020 (six percent) of the 84,339 registered female voters exercised their right to vote in the by-election held on June 26, 2022. Of 28 female polling stations, 22 recorded less than 10 percent turnout with the lowest remaining one percent at Polling Stations No. 51 and 119. The votes polled by female voters in the constituency, however, made up 18 percent of the total polled votes. Under section 9(1) of the Elections Act, 2017, if the turnout of women voters is less than 10 percent of the total votes polled in a constituency, the Election Commission may presume that the women voters have been restrained through an agreement from casting their votes and may declare, polling at one or more polling stations or election in the whole constituency, void

Overall, 33,573 (18 percent) registered voters turned out to vote in the by-election. The constituency had recorded 37 percent turnout – 51 percent male and 18 percent female in General Election (GE) 2018 and 23 percent turnout – 33 percent male and 10 percent female – in by-election held in October 2018. There were three female polling stations with less than 10 percent turnout in GE-2018 and 21 in by-election 2018. The persistent low women turnout in the constituency necessitates targeted and urgent measures by the Election Commission to encourage women to vote during future elections.

Procedurally, the by-election witnessed irregularities mainly relating to secrecy of vote and campaigning and canvassing inside and around polling stations. According to FAFEN observers, 52 (29 percent) of 180 observed polling booths had secrecy screens installed in such a manner that might have compromised voter’s secrecy. In addition, 13 polling booths had CCTV cameras angled toward the portion of booth reserved for marking of ballot papers by voters.

The campaigning irregularities also persisted in the recent by-election. A majority of the observed polling stations (59 or 80 percent) had party camps in their legally-prohibited surroundings, while more than a third of those were actively involved in distributing campaign materials to potential voters. FAFEN observers also witnessed the presence of campaign materials of contesting parties or candidates inside 14 (19 percent) observed polling stations.

The voting process was reported to be orderly and peaceful across the observed polling stations. The polling staff was present at all observed polling stations while the election materials were also available in adequate quantities. The Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs) and Polling Officers (POs) were duly completing all legal and regulatory requirements for voter identification and ballot issuance. FAFEN observers, however, reported 16 instances of voters being turned away from polling stations as their names were not on the electoral rolls of the station they were visiting.

The counting process was also compliant with the due procedural and legal requirements; however, the observers reported issues concerning the transparency of polling station results. The Presiding Officers did not paste Form-45 (Result of the Count) outside nine (50 percent) of the polling stations where counting was observed. Similarly, Form-46 (Ballot Paper Account) was not pasted in 11 (61 percent) instances.

For 188,084 registered voters in the constituency, the ECP had set up 124 polling stations, assigning more than 1,200 voters to 98 (79 percent) polling stations, which is a legally recommended limit of voters assigned to a polling station.

Three political parties i.e. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Tehreek-e-Inqlab Siyasi Tehreek (TIST) fielded their candidates for PK-7 Swat-VI by-election while one candidate ran independently. According to Form-47 (Provisional Consolidated Statement of Results of the Count), PTI’s candidate Fazal Moula won the by-election securing 17,395 (52 percent) polled votes while ANP’s Hussain Ahmed Khan remained runner up with 14,604 (44 percent) votes. Moreover, two percent (770) of the polled votes were excluded from the count.

During the General Election 2018, PTI’s candidate Mr. Amjad Ali had won this constituency while the ANP’s Waqar Ahmed Khan remained the runner-up. However, Mr. Ali vacated the seat to retain another seat that he had won. Former runner-up Mr. Ahmed won the seat in the by-election held on October 14, 2018 defeating PTI’s candidate Fazal Moula. The seat fell vacant again due to the death of Mr. Waqar Ahmed Khan on April 30, 2022 necessitating a second by-election in the constituency.

FAFEN had deployed a total of 19 non-partisan and trained observers including 12 men, six women and one transgender. These observers were allowed to observe the voting process at 74 polling stations and counting processes at 18 polling stations. FAFEN observers were duly accredited by the Election Commission of Pakistan in compliance with the requirements of section 238 of the Elections Act, 2017.

FM Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addresses the National Assembly

Islamabad, June 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his address at the National Assembly today said that for the past four years, the opposition benches did not get the opportunity to speak and contribute in the Assembly. He said that everyone is witness to how the House was run. Today’s opposition, despite being a limited number is now getting the chance to talk and is not talking about the economic issues or the budget but about Sindh’s local body elections. He said that it would have been appropriate had this matter been raised in the Sindh assembly.

Regarding the local government elections in Sindh, Chairman Bilawal said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has been struggling for democracy, free and fair elections and the economic issues of the people for three generations and has been facing every tyrant. PPP’s Jiyalas stood bravely in the face of the dictatorship of Zia ul Haq, suffering hardships including violence, killings and the gallows. We have seen Zia ul Haq’s dictatorship and saved Pakistan from it, he said. The PPP has had the opportunity to govern despite rigging taking place. In this country, rigging has always taken place against the PPP and to stop the party of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. A systemic approach was taken to execute rigging in this country. The PPP has always led the struggle for free, fair and transparent elections, be it against Zia, Musharraf or the selected from any era.

The beneficiaries of rigging are complaining before you, Chairman Bilawal said to the Speaker. They cannot win. Imran Khan is complaining about our institutions being neutral since undemocratic parties like his cannot win otherwise. This is why today, they are running a movement for our institutions to play a controversial role instead of a neutral and constitutional one.

Like Imran Khan, there are a few parties, politicians and puppets in Sindh who are helped and made to come forward in a dictatorial rule. They were hoping, like Khan, for our institutions to not be neutral but controversial. When our institutions started becoming neutral, be it the Election Commission, the courts or other institutions who used to take interest in elections, these people started panicking. This is because they knew that their bails would be revoked if transparent elections are held and the institutions are neutral. They know that they are here today because the 2018 elections were rigged. Calling out a member of the opposition, Chairman Bilawal said that he could contest in the elections because Abid Bhayo’s brother was imprisoned in Shikarpur. When we too have a level playing field, they will not have a place to run to, he said.

A day before elections, everyone had gathered in the Sindh High Court to escape from the local body elections, Chairman Bilawal said. The whole province could see that only a single party was present for it while the rest were finding ways to escape. Would the people of Sindh vote for those who were trying to run? This is not possible. They will create more hue and cry since they know that the second phase of the elections is after a month. The bails of our opponents will be revoked then too. It is visible that free and fair elections will take place if the electoral reforms take place. There would be a level playing field. When there is a level playing field, PPP always performs well. Institutions remaining apolitical and not interfering is their fear. If there is no interference, the PPP will emerge victorious. What kind of a joke is it to complain of rigging if we win in Larkana?

If we want a level playing field, then when rigging actually takes place, we should all stand together and expose it. Chairman Bilawal concluded by saying that he would himself take action if a Jiyala is involved in rigging, as they cannot go against their leaders and manifesto. If false accusations of rigging are made, then no one would believe genuine concerns.

HABIB UNIVERSITY HOSTS ITS FIRST EVER COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENT IN SUGARLAND, TX

Karachi, June 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Habib University Foundation US (HUFUS) started its series of small community engagement events this June, with an event titled “A Legacy of Giving” to acknowledge the long-standing association of the Pakistani diaspora in the US, with the Habib community. The support of donors from the US community has been foundational in the inception of Habib University. Legacy spaces like the Dhanani School of Science and Engineering strengthened the institution’s image in its formative years.

Leading the philanthropic front of Habib University in the United States, that hosts a large population of immigrants from Pakistani descent, is Mr. Shoukat Dhanani, who is the face of the movement there. An embodiment of an accomplished entrepreneurial journey and philanthropic endeavours, the Dhananis have had a special association with the Habib community since a little after its inception. Their generous grant in the name of the Dhanani School of Science and Engineering houses the University’s center of pedagogy and innovation in the STEM fields, along with concentrations in the Liberal Core curriculum.

This year, Habib University extended its call for support to Sugarland, Texas, where again a large population of Pakistani descent responded with their support. Introduced as a series of events titled “A Legacy of Giving”, these small community engagement events are targeted to be spearheaded by the community members themselves, in order to transfer independent ownership of the cause to them.

The Sugarland event, held on June 16th, 2022, hosted by the Meghani Family, who have been ardent supporters of furthering higher education in Pakistan. The MoC, Ms. Afsheen Bhamani, CEO of Carporium, opened the event with acknowledgements for the hosts, keynote speakers and the audience to bring the event to fruition.

The welcome note was delivered by Arman Meghani, CEO of Meghani Insurance Group, who was introduced as a Global Youth Ambassador for Habib University. In his speech, Arman stated how Habib University has helped rekindle his distant connection with the home of his ancestors-“If I were to speak on behalf of my own generation, our connection with the home of our ancestors is quite distant. Habib University has come out as one institution that has helped us reconnect with our roots, to the land our families left decades ago, and humbly become part of a legacy of what is already the most generous institution of higher learning, in the world.”

Mr. Ali Rizvi, Global Head of Business Development, Enverus, USA was the keynote speaker for the evening, cementing his association with the cause, having been vocal about his support for a long time- “the [Habib] University, under the visionary leadership of Wasif Rizvi, the founding president, has successfully broken the shackles of the traditional vocational approach by introducing a liberal arts model of higher education.”

Ms. Aqsa Junejo, Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications at Habib University thanked the audience on behalf of Mr. Wasif Rizvi, founding President of Habib University, for coming out in support of their cause, yet again. Dr. Amber Zulfiqar, Geriatric Medicine Specialist, HCA, and a Global Ambassador of Habib University, spoke to the gathering about her continued association with the University, and what has inspired such a large community of benefactors in the US, to support it.

Mr. Javed Meghani, Chairman and CEO, Mega Energy Holdings, LLC expressed his thoughts as one of the custodians of the campaign in the States, on why it was important to support Habib University as an American of Pakistani origin, and what personally moved him towards it. “Pakistani diaspora in the U.S.A. are armed with a unique dual insight as they have an understanding of institutional philanthropy and a strong cultural affinity to ancestral home (Pakistan). They should support higher-education and particularly Habib University in Pakistan because it provides world-class quality education with an achievable endowment target.”

Linking the country’s development to investment in higher education, Nisha Meghani, Senior Vice President, Mega Energy Holdings, LLC, stated “I believe that given the right opportunities in the form of quality higher education at Habib University, there are very few boundaries that can hold back the talented youth of Pakistan in contributing to Pakistan’s development.”

The event drew to a close with Dr. Asim Shah, Executive Vice Chair, Menninger Department of Psychiatry, Baylor College of Medicine, Chair of the Host Committee for the Habib University Annual Gala and a Habib University Global Ambassador delivering his Vote of Thanks. Dr. Shah is the Chair of the Host Committee for the Habib University Annual Gala in Houston and remains of its oldest and staunch supporters. Dr. Shah, in his address, mobilized the audience towards contributing to Habib University, through a variety of options, introducing the Small Giving App for recurring donations.

“I am convinced that there is no better contribution that we can make then to the cause of higher education being championed by Habib University. This can be a legacy that we can proudly call our own, one which contributes directly to the betterment of Pakistan’s youth.”

Charged with the spirit to serve their homeland, the audience responded with great zeal to the institution’s call for support. What was the first in a series of recurring community engagement events in the US to engage more benefactors, it was endearing to witness a successful start with the community itself at the helm of affairs, to take this cause forward and augment the higher education landscape of Pakistan.
