GCU initiates replenishment project to accelerate groundwater recharge

Lahore, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Groundwater serves as a critical resource for clean water used for multiple crucial purposes but Lahore continues to experience dwindling groundwater supplies because of over extraction. Keeping in view, the Government College University Lahore has initiated an on-campus groundwater water replenishment project in collaboration with WWF-Pakistan to artificially accelerate the groundwater recharge for future generations in Lahore.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi said that all the runoff water gathered in different parts of the main campus during rains would be channeled to the replenishment site constructed in the University’s Oval Ground to recharge the aquifer. Prof. Zaidi said this project would also help our faculty and students of Sustainable Development Study Centre to advance their research in quantitative estimation of recharge rate and evaluating the quality of water through installation of real time monitoring system to check contamination in water.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of SDSC Director Prof. Dr Faiza Sharif and the staff of Engineering Cell for this on-campus water replenishment project. Usman Ijaz, senior project officer of Freshwater Programme at WWF Pakistan, also shed light on the importance of replenishing aquifers for future generations. He also conducted an environmental training workshop at GCU, and handed over completion letter to Prof. Zaidi.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor stresses to invest in science and technology

Lahore, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has stressed the need to invest more and more in science and technology as no nation can survive without making advancement in the field of technology. He was addressing a special seminar on international geo political situation. Eminent political scientist and former professor of PU’s Department of Political Science Prof Hamid Hasan Qazalbash was the keynote speaker while the deans and heads of various departments participated in the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad said that there is a need to act in all the disciplines of life just like we act in the state of emergency for the development of the country. He said that every Pakistani must play his/her role with honesty.

Highlighting various features of global politics, Prof Qazalbash said that we needed to resolve our issues by ourselves. He said that if our issues would be resolved by the foreign powers, then we must be ready for slavery. He said that the United States had decided to play a role of the leader of the world after World War II since she felt that Europe was no more able to perform this job. He said however, the US was now facing several serious challenges inside and outside the country.

He said that the US had never recognized its people as one nation. He said that the concept of white supremacy was the biggest weakness of the United States. He said that no one can speak against Israel in the US and many professors and students were expelled from universities who spoke in favour of Palestine. He said that the US had 800 bases around the world and could attack any country within 10 minutes. However, he said, the military might of the US can’t keep his role as world leader intact.

He said that some Asian countries like China, Japan and to some extent India were also emerging as powers to lead the world. He said that Pakistan was also an important country on the world map but she was not behaving like a nuclear state and she had not decided to play the role of a leader. He said that we must trust each other and work for the development of the country before it is too late. Later, a question answer session was also held in which the participants discussed the role of Muslim world as well.

No matter what Nawaz Sharif will not return, if his party and workers say it is a different matter: Ch Shujat Hussain

Lahore, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujat Hussain has said that nowadays everyone is worried about Nawaz Sharif’s return, my personal opinion is that no matter what, Nawaz Sharif will not return, if his party and workers say then it is a different matter, but it is absurd for those who are candidates for the Prime Minister-ship to talk about the return of Nawaz Sharif.

In a statement issued here today, he said that more money has been spent on Nawaz Sharif’s case than is alleged against him, they talk about guarantee of his return but keep in mind that no one can give guarantee about life and death, this authority is only with Allah Almighty. Ch Shujat Hussain said to get out of the return of Nawaz Sharif and pay attention to the solution of public issues. He said that this is the year for working, but if remained engaged in such things, then May Allah save the country.

Ch Shujat Hussain further said that nowadays the leaders are busy in pulling each other’s legs which they will soon see the consequences for themselves but they do not talk about the people’s issues. There is hue and cry about inflation everywhere but no one gives a proposal to eliminate it. Ch Shujat Hussain further said that if any party or leader gives a positive plan in the parliament to end inflation then I will ask all my members of the assembly to listen to them.
