TIH, Korangi Campus honoured with Fire and Safety Award 

Karachi, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Indus Hospital and Health Network’s (IHHN) commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for its patients and faculty alike has garnered widespread recognition. The Korangi Campus was honoured with the prestigious 11th Annual Fire and Safety Award 2021 in the field of fire and safety. On December 9, 2021, the ceremony took place at the Marriot Hotel, Karachi. The Sindh Government’s Secretary of Transport presented the award to IHHN.

The Korangi Campus is registered with the National Forum for Environment Health (NFEP) and Fire Protection Association of Pakistan (FPAP) to ensure compliance with established safety regulations, which resulted in the NFEP and FPAP touring the campus. They got a first-hand account of the safety codes in place and were given briefings, a presentation with Safety and Security Management, record verifications, and ground validation of fire safety deployed equipment and systems.

IHHN’s vision of preserving a sound environment made a lasting impression, as the esteemed panel of judges acknowledged Indus’ efforts when selecting the winner for the award. Mr. Mansoor Abbasi of the Indus Hospital, Korangi Campus, elaborated management’s efforts in establishing the fire and safety standard, which enabled this milestone accomplishment. “We bow our head to the Almighty for further successes and showering His blessings on IHHN in serving the poor community of Pakistan and providing the best health facilities.”

Review Meeting for the Pre-Arrangements for Pre-Entry Test 2022 held 

Khairpur, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Review Meeting for the Pre-Arrangements for the conduct of Pre-Entry Test-2022 was held at Vice Chancellor Secretariat, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor chaired the meeting. Talking to the participants of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto remarked that the Pre-Entry Test-2022 will be conducted on Tuesday 11 January 2022 for the fresh batch of B.S Part-I and B.S Part-III respectively. The Vice Chancellor said that the conduct of centralized admission test aimed at to maintain transparency and discipline.

After detailed deliberations, it was decided that the Pre-Entry Test will be conducted at the Central Lawn of the Main Administration Block. The eligible candidates will download their admit slips from university website www.salu.edu.pk. Meanwhile, the admit slips will also be available during the first week of January 2022 in the all institutes and departments. The parents of the appearing candidates will be seated at the University Model School. It was decided that entry of the candidates will be allowed only from the Main Gate having admit slips.

The outsiders will not be allowed to enter in the University premises. Wherein, all the hostels will remain closed. It was decided that stringent and fool proof security measures will be taken in order to avert any untoward incident. The District Police will be approached to maintain law and order. The traffic plan will be prepared by the University Security Staff with the support of District Police. It was also decided that all the Faculty Members, S and Teaching Assistants will perform their invigilation duties on day of test. The test will start on 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon.

The Consultative Meeting of the Pro-Vice Chancellors of Campuses, Deans, Directors, Chairpersons and Incharges held

Khairpur, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):A Consultative Meeting of the Pro-Vice Chancellors of Campuses, Deans of all faculties, Directors, Chairpersons and Incharges of all Teaching Institutes and Departments of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur was held. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto presided over the meeting. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto cordially welcomed the all participants in the meeting.

He said this consultative meeting on academic and research matters will promote the sense of responsibilities and academic culture at the campus. Dr. Ibupoto said I always firmly believe in collective wisdom and cooperation for the betterment of institution, better governance, transparency and merit. The Vice Chancellor obtained various suggestions and feedback for further improvement in the forth-coming session which will start from 17 January 2022.

After detailed deliberations, various decisions were taken. It was decided that the meetings of the Board of Studies and Board of Faculties will be convened timely to take the decisions on various issues pertaining to academic, research and development. It was decided that the combined classes of subjects like Mathematics, Islamic Studies, English and Pakistan Studies will jointly be conducted where it is possible and feasible. In order to maintain the proper mechanism for the maintenance of students attendance is concerned, a committee was constituted on the Senior Professors along with the I.T Manager.

It was decided that in line with the decision of the last meeting of the Syndicate that contract lecturers shall be appointed wherein, the terms of references and criteria will be sought from other reputable Universities. It was decided that one Expert from the Industry and other relevant profession will be opted on Board of Studies related with the market-oriented Departments in order to make a strong liaison with Industry and Academia. It was decided that all the Faculty Members including S and Teaching Assistants will perform their invigilation duties on the day of Pre-Entry Test on 11 January 2022. It was decided that during the winter vacations the results of Second Semester-2021 will be submitted to the Controller of Examinations Office.

Meanwhile, timetable will also be prepared and notified during winter vacations. The Winter Vacations will commence from 03 January to 16 January 2022 while the classes of Academic Year 2022 for B.S Part-II, III, IV and V will start from 17 January 2022 at the main campus and its sub-campuses. The Pro-Vice Chancellors of Ghotki Campuses, Deans of Faculties, Directors, Chairpersons, Incharges and the Representatives of all Teaching Institutes and Departments attended the meeting.

Call for Concept Notes for Innovator Seed Fund for the year 2021-22 is now open

TRANSFORM YOUR ENTREPRENEURIAL DREAMS INTO SUSTAINABLE START-UPS!

Encouraging entrepreneurship is one of the key objectives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan. The HEC has recently launched the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) project to help in accelerating the economic engines of the country.

Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) is an initiative under HEDP that aims at engaging entrepreneurs and upcoming aspirants who want to convert their business ideas into action.

ISF will provide a package of support and seed funding to early-stage startups through HEC-recognized Business Incubation Centers (BICs) at universities.

The grant winners will receive up to $35,000 in seed funding in addition to support through BICs in the form of entrepreneurial training, legal training and support, financial education, business development service provision, and investment readiness training. In addition, successful start-ups will be connected to a range of funding sources that can help them meet their capital needs during the scale-up phase post program.

15 promising early-stage start-ups will be funded and provided the training and incubation services required to transform them into investable ventures through ISF, every year. As part of the strategic aims of the project, a significant proportion of the grants will be awarded to startups with female founders.

Applicant Eligibility:

The lead applicant must:

Either be a student, recent alumni and/or faculty members / researchers of the Higher Education Institutions (public and private).

Have endorsement from one of the HEC established Business Incubation Centers (BICs).

Not have received commercial sources of funding prior to applying for ISF grant.

Have an SECP registered business concern.

The final awardees will have to enter into a tri-partite agreement between the Startup, the BIC and the HEC. The applications for the ISF program will be routed via the Business Incubation Centers established by the HEC in different public sector HEIs of Pakistan. The ISF grant is targeted at early-stage startups which will benefit majorly from a $35,000 grant and entrepreneurial training.

Budgets for ISF awards will be up to $35,000 with a project duration of 1 year (depending upon the project modalities and execution plan).

Applications can be submitted in response to a call for concept notes. Submissions must be made to the HEC online portal (http://ric.hec.gov.pk) in accordance with the guidelines provided in the call for proposals document under “Downloads” section.

Once the required details are filled online, please upload all the required documents in .pdf form and submit the application before the deadline. The portal will be live from December 16, 2021 and will be accepting Concept Notes till January 15, 2022.

Dengue Awareness Campaign Organized by Department of Microbiology, The University of Haripur

Haripur, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):Department of Microbiology conducted Dengue awareness campaign in The University of Haripur on 30th Dec, 2021 that included seminar and other activities like awareness walk, scientific model, poster, painting and photography competition. Event was mentored by chairperson Dr Syed Mohammad Ali along with faculty organizers Dr Tabeer, Dr Rafique, Dr Adnan and Ms. Maria.

Event started with the Awareness walk conducted up to university gate accompanied by chairperson and faculty members from different departments of the university. Students walked with the banners and play cards in their hands displaying the different messages about dengue fever. Students also distributed pamphlets in the university for awareness about the disease.

Seminar session was started with the recitation of Holy Quran after walk at seminar hall of the University. Dr Omer, Incharge Infectious Diseases Lab of Holy Family Hospital, Islamabad talked about Dengue and discussed about the challenges and risks of the disease. Chairman, Department of Microbiology appreciated and presented the shield to the guest speaker.

GIK Professor Ghulam Hussain Listed Among the World’s Top 2% Scientists 

Swabi, December 31, 2021 (PPI-OT):Stanford University has recently published an update of the list of the top 2% most widely cited scientists in different disciplines, the World’s Top 2% Scientists. This ranking, considered the most prestigious worldwide, is based on the bibliometric information contained in the Scopus database of more than 8 million scientists considered to be active worldwide, with 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields taken into account. Prof. Ghulam Hussain, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, has been listed in this prestigious ranking.
