Saima Noor, Ghulam Sughra defended PhD Thesis with Excellent Achievement at Department of Physics

Islamabad, July 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): Ms. Saima Noor and Ms. Ghulam Sughra have defended their PhD dissertations at the Department of Physics, while both of the scholars were supervised by of Dr. Shumaila Sajjad Associate Professor, Department of Physics.

Ms. Saima Noor has focused her research work on electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, Photocatalysis energy oriented and environmental remediation applications through cost effective and environmentally friendly nanomaterials based on Carbon and metals oxides. The supervisor told that this high-level work is performed in Nano photo Catalysis lab established by her through HEC-NRPU funding. She added that this work brings new insight for designing multifunctional materials for energy conversion and environmental remediation applications.

Scholar’s research output has been published in world reputable SCI journals i.e., Journal of cleaner production Impact Factor = 9.297 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0959652620333254), International Journal of Hydrogen Energy (Impact Factor = 5.816) and Journal of Environmental Sciences (Impact Factor = 5.569). She has achieved accumulative Impact Factor of 35 from seven publications of her PhD work.

Meanwhile, Ms. Ghulam Sughra’s research endeavours have been published in world prestigious SCI journal, Journal of Hazardous materials having an Impact Factor of 10.588 (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304389419310416). Her accumulative impact factor is more than 30 from her 5 out class publications. The quality work of a researcher is always valuable. This work was also performed in Nano photo Catalysis lab.

The Supervisor said that the research field of Ms. Ghulam Sughra Jamila is Photocatalytic wastewater treatment, energy production applications via Nano-composites based on Carbon quantum dots modified metal oxides. Carbon quantum dots are emerging new materials utilized in diverse fields. Thus the facile and easy route to synthesize nanocomposites exhibiting enhanced photocatalytic degradation efficiencies can be competently applied for waste water treatment.

IRD holds seminar in KIU, Hunza Campus

Islamabad, July 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD), of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organized a seminar in Karakoram International University (KIU), Hunza Campus titled “The Role of Youth in Building an Inclusive and Tolerant Society”.

Prof. Dr. Husnul Amin, Executive Director, IRD, IIUI while addressing the seminar participants said that educational institutions should increase their efforts to engage youth in building an inclusive and tolerant Society. Dr. Amin added that Pakistan have a huge bulge of youth and we should invest best of our abilities to utilize them for the future betterment of the society. He further said that Universities may increase their collaboration to engage youth from different parts of the country with diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Rehmat Kareem, Director KIU, Hunza Campus lauded the outreach programs of IRD for the remote areas of Pakistan. Both the dignitaries agreed for future collaboration for such activities. The IRD resource person Mr. Waqas Ahmed enlightening the students about the topic said that the tolerant society can be built by appreciating the diversity in differentiation without negation. The seminar was also attended by Director, ORIC, IIUI, Faculty and students from KIU Hunza Campus.

Online workshop concludes at Shariah Academy

Islamabad, July 02, 2021 (PPI-OT): A two-day online workshop was organized by Shariah Academy, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on “Food Industry: Shariah Rules”. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Sinha Halal Associates Pakistan from 26th to 27th June, 2021 while it was attended by as many as 170 people not only from the country but also from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Bahrain, Occupied Kashmir and other Gulf countries. The main objective of the workshop was to introduce in detail and review the Shariah rules regarding the Islamic food industry and the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan in this regard.

Main topics of the workshop were awareness of Islamic principles regarding halal and haraam food, general introduction of steps taken for halal food in Pakistan, standards for halal industry in Pakistan “Pakistan Halal Standard” (PS: 3733-2019) Halal Management System Requirements “The detailed introduction and analysis and in particular the Organization of the Islamic world The OIC level included awareness of halal food efforts.

Mr. Akhtar A. Baghio, Director General, Pakistan Halal Authority, Prof. Dr. Abdul Hai Abro (Director General, Shariah Academy), Mr. Mufti Yousuf Abdul Razzaq (Chief Executive, Sinha Halal Associates, Pakistan) participated in this workshop. ) Mr. Mufti Ahsan Zafar and Dr. Mufti Syed Arif Ali Shah Al-Husseini spoke on the above topics.

A webinar held at IUB on Abrogation of Article 370 and Indian Oppression in Kashmir

Bahawalpur, July 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):The department of International Relations at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur held a webinar on the ‘Abrogation of Article 370 and Indian Oppression in Kashmir: Policy Options for Pakistan’ on July 1, 2021. The honourable President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan was the guest speaker. The webinar was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Chairman Department of International Relations, Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Latif, faculty members and students.

The online interactive session included debate and discussion on critical topics like repeal of Kashmir’s special status, Indian oppression in Kashmir and debasing the United Nations Security Council resolutions recognizing the territory as an international dispute, Pakistan’s policy options in Kashmir. The webinar was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob. He appreciated the Department of International Relations on organizing a webinar focusing the major territorial conflict in the region and human rights violations in Indian Held Kashmir.

He stressed on the possibility that if the Kashmir issue is not resolved fairly, it will seriously affect regional stability and world peace. He pointed out how the Indian leadership has been trying to change the demographics of Kashmir and denying Kashmir the right to self-determination. He also reiterated that Kashmir’s international status is recognized as a disputed territory whose solution must be achieved through the United Nations’ resolutions. The Vice Chancellor proposed that we should commit to the cause and support it on moral grounds.

President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan extended his gratitude to The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and the Department of International Relations for being the first ones for organizing a webinar at such a level. His Excellency, in his keynote speech said that Articles 370 and 35A of Indian constitution is a device used to legitimize Indian occupation of Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, the Government of India (GoI) announced the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution and the bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir (J and K) into two union territories.

He urged the international community to understand the narrative of Kashmir and its struggle for freedom. He was of the view that universities should invest more in research on various aspects regarding Kashmir. This would help the students understand the issue at a deeper level. In the end, he thanked the Pakistani government for its unrelenting support and solidarity for the citizens of Indian Occupied Kashmir. It is expected of Pakistani government to be aggressive in its policy options and multiply its efforts. He stressed the importance of global involvement to make their voice credible.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Latif, Chairman Department of International Relations, concluded the session and thanked President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Vice Chancellor, faculty members, students and all the participants. In his remarks he highlighted the plight of Human Rights in Indian held Kashmir, Pakistan needs to mobilize all diplomatic channels and increase her focus on enhanced UN involvement in the issue. He mentioned that to protect human rights on universal basis, irrespective of the borders has become international obligation, and international community’s active engagement must ensure the end of sufferings of the Kashmiri people.

Shariah Academy to hold International Conference from 29th to 30th September, 2021

Islamabad, July 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Shariah Academy, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) is organizing a two-day international conference on “Codification of Family Laws and Its Impact on Islamization of Laws” from 29th to 30th September, 2021.

The objectives of this conference includes to study the current situation of codification of family laws in the Muslim World particularly in Pakistan Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Morocco, to analyze the views of Ulama and religious Scholars about the codification of Islamic Law, to highlight the challenges in the process of codification of Family laws, to analyze the role of codification in the process of Islamization, to elaborate how to get benefit from the current experiences of Muslim Countries in the field of family laws, to elaborate the Role of the Pakistani higher judiciary in interpreting the family laws and its impact on Islamization and to propose some concrete recommendations and viable mechanism for the Islamization of laws in Pakistan.

The themes of the conference will, codification of family laws: Current situation, role of codification of Family laws in the process of Islamization, reforms in Family Laws in the Muslim World and their relevance to Islamization of laws in Pakistan, and Family laws for Muslim in non-Muslim Countries. Judges, senior lawyers, academia, Shariah Scholars, students, and representatives from the relevant departments may participate and present their research papers in this event.
