Ceremony at Syed Panaha Ali Shah Model School of University of Sindh, Prizes were distributed among position holder students and female students, uniforms provided by people from Sarandi were also handed over to deserving children

Jamshoro, June 01, 2023 (PPI-OT): The annual prize distribution ceremony was held at Syed Panaha Ali Shah Model School under the supervision of University of Sindh, Jamshoro, in which Vice Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddiq Kalhoro, Registrar Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto, Project Director Engineer Ghulam Shabir Abbasi, Security Officer Ghulam Rasool Chandio and Colony Chairman Dr. Ali Nawaz distributed prizes among the position holder students. The ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran, which Sharaf got the honor of class 5, while Naat Benazir presented it. Later, the girls and boys of the school, like flowers, won the hearts of the audience by presenting a charming dance on the recently viral Urdu song “Hum Sindh Mei Rahni Wali Sindhi Mehman Nawaz Hain Sari” by the famous artist of Sindh, Mumtaz Mollai. On this occasion, they were given a huge applause. After the excellent performance of the children, prizes were distributed among the position holders of different classes.

Later, the Vice Chancellor distributed the school uniforms sent by the people of Sarandi to the deserving children. Speaking on the occasion, the principal of the school Marie Attar informed the vice chancellor, registrar and other guests about the performance of the school and said that the teachers of Syed Panaha Ali Shah Model School should be promoted. He said that it was possible to organize the prize distribution ceremony due to teamwork. In the presidential address of the ceremony, the vice chancellor shed light on the budget of the university, the federal and Sindh government grants, the performance of the university and the financial matters.

He said that Higher Education Commission Islamabad has objections that Sindh University should not run schools because the expenditure on them is too high. He said that the aim of establishing Syed Panaha Ali Shah and Dr NA Baloch Model School Hyderabad is to provide quality education on the basis of “No Profit – No Loss”. Both schools have to demonstrate efficiency in providing quality education. Dr. Kalhoro said that after he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor in 2016, he started the online examination system, but the later VC stopped it and only 17 lakh rupees were being collected every year for late fees of the colleges. After being appointed as the vice-chancellor again, when he made the examination system online, in the first year, instead of 17 lakhs, 7 crore rupees were deposited in the account of the university in the form of late fees. He said that due to closing the financial leakages and adopting austerity measures, we have removed the debt of one billion rupees faced by the university in June 2022.

Vice Chancellor said that the annual budget of Sindh University is 7.5 billion rupees. The federal government is providing 24% grant and the Sindh government is providing 18% grant, which is 42%, while the remaining 58% amount has to be arranged by the university from its own resources. Dr. Kalhoro said that 5 thousand male and female students were allowed to appear in the first semester exams despite not paying their annual admission fees. He said that the fees will not be received, where will the university meet the expenses, this is also a big question. Dr. Kalhoro said that in terms of medical allowance, we are giving 1750 rupees per month more than the allowance fixed by the government to the employees from grade one to 16, which was objected by the audit.

If this amount was not adjusted from the relevant forum, then 89 crore rupees would have to be paid and every employee from grade 2 to 16 would have to pay 3 lakh rupees. The vice chancellor advised all the teachers of the school to do their job honestly and avoid protest politics and directed the registrar to look into the promotion issue of the teachers of Syed Panaha Ali Shah Model School. Dr. Sahar Imdad, Professor Rashida Bhatti, Dawood Chand and others also participated in the event. While the event was conducted by Lady Teacher Tanya.
