Acting president chairs meeting of apex committee 

Islamabad, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):A meeting of the Apex Committee was held under the Chairmanship of the Acting President, IIUI, Dr. N.B. Jumani here at new campus in which matters pertaining to CMS updates and Standardized format of time table for spring 2023 semester, Schedule of Transport for Optimal Utilization, Space Allocation/Space for Classes and Report on New Joining for spring 2023 were discussed.

It was also attended by all the Vice-Presidents, Deans and representatives of Directorate of Academics and Examinations, Directorate of Information Systems, In-Charges / Caretakers of different block and Transport section, IIU.

On the occasion, a detailed briefing was given on the state of campus management system and its implementation. The chair emphasized that as CMS is the most significant project for IIU, therefore it shall be completed by all means and appreciated the ongoing hard work of the team. The chair desired that a meeting on CMS should be called that may be attended by the focal persons.

In the meeting, Dean FOS presented a detailed working / Presentation regarding Standardized format of time table for spring 2023 semester. The committee also discussed the issues of Female Campus regarding the Transport Schedule as highlighted by the Vice-President, Female Campus.

In the meeting it was decided that the University will go with the Same Transport schedule as notified earlier for semester Fall-2022; however, the shuttle Service will be increased in the second half to facilitate the students. Transport Section will notify the arrangement of Shuttle service accordingly.

The Acting President said that notified In-Charges / Caretakers for each Block of the University will be mainly responsible for working closely with the focal persons and they will work on utilization of best resources in addition to a very important responsibility of space management with the help of HoDs and Deans. The chair was also briefed about the admission campaign and joining of the students by the In-charge admissions. Acting President desired to increase the number of seats and to offer the admission to leftover candidates placed on waiting list.

AKUH’s Pharmacy Trainee Programme Receives the Coveted American Society of Health Systems Pharmacist

Karachi, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Aga Khan University Hospital’s flagship Pharmacy Trainee Programme has received the coveted American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accreditation for International Pharmacy Practice Residency Programmes (IPPR), becoming the first academic medical centre outside the United States, the third international hospital and the first in Pakistan, to receive the prestigious three-year accreditation under its IPPR standards.

This accreditation helps raise the standards of training for pharmacists, who offer critical services in patient care. Well-dispensed medicines ensure their best use and efficacy with expert management of the patient’s response as well as medicine interaction.

With this accreditation, the AKUH Pharmacy Residency Programme has become an internationally recognized training site and will serve as a role model for producing exemplary practitioners, who will positively impact the practice of pharmacy in Pakistan.

The one-year pharmacy traineeship programme, being offered at AKUH since 1990, has more than 800 alumni rendering professional pharmacy services, and acting as pioneers in the field in Pakistan. The accreditation also advances AKUH’s traineeship programme to a residency model with international recognition, joining a community of over 2,000 sites across the world with accredited programmes.

As part of the accreditation process, AKUH’s pharmacy traineeship programme complied with stringent competencies, educational goals, and objectives, including more than 100 ASHP residency learning objectives, and more than 200 measurable elements.

ASHP standards cover fundamental pharmacy practice areas such as Practice Foundation Skills, Drug Information Medication Policy, and Drug Safety, Practice Management and Leadership, Patient care, Education of others, and Project management.

Congratulating the pharmacy team on achieving this milestone, Dr Farhat Abbas, Interim CEO AKU Health Services Pakistan, said, “the ASHP accreditation is a testament to the fact that our patients are at the forefront of everything we do,” adding that, “this accreditation is not only a feather in the cap for AKUH but also for the country.”

Lauding the teams for their dedication and hard work, Dr Adil Haider, Dean Medical College, AKU, said, “By getting ASHP-accredited, AKU has demonstrated its continuing commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and providing quality patient care,” adding that the accreditation will serve as means to adopt and implement an even higher quality pharmacy practice and an enhanced residency programme.

Imran Khan standing steadfast against corrupt mafia, defeat will be fate of PDM in election: Ch Parvez Elahi 

Lahore, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker Punjab Assembly Sibtain Khan and former MPAs held consultative meeting with former Chief Minister Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi here today (Tuesday). In the meeting former MPAs Ameer Mohammad Khan, Tallat Fatima Naqvi as well as Advocate General Ahmad Owais, advocate Amir Saeed Rawn and advocate Imdad Hussain Chandio were present. In the meeting, views were exchanged regarding prevailing national political situation, matters pertaining to general election and other political affairs.

Talking on the occasion, Ch Parvez Elahi said that Imran Khan is standing steadfast against the corrupt mafia, in the election defeat will be fate of PDM, the nation is standing with Imran Khan, coming time is only of Imran Khan.

Former Chief Minister Punjab and PA Speaker bitter criticized the conduct of the Election Commission and condemning massive uprooting of bureaucracy said that it has been ordered that start posting of May 25 officers forthwith, process of arresting people and picking up the people from their houses has also been started, Election Commission has failed to perform its responsibility impartially, controversial decision of Election Commission of caretaker Chief Minister is being challenged in the judiciary. They said that by not giving the election date, constitutional responsibility is being violated, most controversial officers and anti-PTI famed officers being posted on key posts.

Former CM Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi calls on PTI Chairman Imran Khan

Lahore, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):Former Chief Minister Punjab Ch Parvez Elahi called on PTI Chairman Imran Khan at his residence here today (Tuesday). During the meeting, Secretary General Asad Umer and Fawad Chaudhry, Senator Azam Swati, and Hammad Azhar were present.

The meeting decided to continue to protest against the Election Commission’s controversial measures and constitutional options against them. In this regard views were exchanged in detail to approach superior judiciary and political options.

Ch Parvez Elahi apprised Imran Khan and other leaders about his proposals regarding future political matters. All leaders expressed concern over about election date not yet being given in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and uprooting of bureaucracy in Punjab.

ECO is an important platform for promoting communication, trade and economic cooperation among member countries, there is a need to review its progress in terms of ECO Vision 2025: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s speech at the Economic Cooperation Organization meeting

Karachi, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that ECO is an important platform for promoting communication, trade and economic cooperation among member countries, there is a need to review its progress in terms of ECO Vision 2025. Member States should coordinate their policies to mitigate the negative effects of the current global economic crisis. All countries must act on an urgent basis to deal with climate change.

He expressed these views while addressing the 26th Ministerial Council meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed the need to work together for the betterment of the region and said that the world is facing problems like economic, climate change and Islamophobia, the steps taken now will determine our future he said Pakistan believes in solving problems through dialogue, we need to work together for the betterment of the region.

The foreign minister said that all countries have to work on an emergency basis to deal with climate change, the world is facing the effects of climate change, in 2022 Pakistan faced the worst flood in history.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that due to the recent floods, Pakistan lost 30 billion dollars, more than 30 million people were affected by the floods, millions of houses and thousands of acres of standing crops were affected.

He said that flood victims and recovery of the economy is the first priority, Pakistan’s share in global carbon emissions is less than one percent. He congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on assuming the chairmanship of the Ministerial Council.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan sees ECO as an important platform in the region which strengthens relations between member countries. It is an important platform for promoting communication, trade and economic cooperation between countries.

He said that since its inception, ECO has continuously developed and today the organization boasts of a solid framework of cooperation, a forward-looking agenda and an expanding horizon of activities.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that more than 1500 people have lost their lives due to floods in Pakistan, including 400 children, while more than 33 million people, including women and children, have been displaced, and there is a threat to health and hunger.

He said that one million houses were destroyed and more than one million domestic animals were killed due to floods, standing crops on four million acres were destroyed, despite the passage of six months, a large part of the country is under water.

He said that the ECO region consists of 8 million square kilometres and half a billion people, which is about 15 percent of the world’s population, but its share in world trade is only 2. 2 percent. The foreign minister said that our intra-regional trade is less than 8 percent of the region’s total trade, unlike the European Union, where intra-regional trade is more than 70 percent.

He said the ECO Trade Agreement is a landmark preferential trade arrangement aimed at reducing tariffs in the region over a defined time frame. Pakistan attaches great importance to its early implementation, we hope that the ECO Trade Agreement tariff concessions will be implemented soon.

Pakistan will continue to give high priority to trade promotion and facilitation under the ECO framework. He said that ECO Vision 2025 is an important document adopted during the 13th ECO Summit in Islamabad which guides us towards increasing inter-regional trade.

Progress needs to be reviewed. He said development of road and rail projects, liberalized visa system and border system Connectivity by making the car easier will not only meet our inter-regional energy needs but also increase regional trade, enabling us to act as a bridge and promote mutual relations. Promotion of mutual trade and investment is a key strategy to strengthen our security, and greater economic cooperation between us will bring peace and stability to the region.

He said that an important development in recent times is the operationalization of the Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad (ITI) road corridor as well as the establishment of a fund for the implementation of the Transit Transport Framework Agreement, under the TIR system.

Trucks of Pakistan’s National Logistics Cell are successfully transporting cargo through Iran, Pakistan is upgrading its rail and road infrastructure to facilitate smooth movement of goods within our neighbourhood and beyond. The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and it understands the value of peace and security, we have always tried to promote peace and stability and uphold international law and the UN Charter.

He said that our region plays an important role in the peace, stability and prosperity of Afghanistan. It is our utmost desire to see peace take root in the brotherly country of Afghanistan which has been suffering due to decades of war and instability.

Without peace and stability in Afghanistan, the aims and aspirations of the ECO region will be a dream. He urged the ECO member countries to coordinate their policies to mitigate the negative effects of the current global economic crisis. Free trade will be promoted which will be a factor of world peace, stability and prosperity.

The accused of the murderous attack on Balkh Sher Khosa should be brought to justice 

Karachi, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):Secretary General of Pakistan People’s Party Syed Nair Hussain Bukhari has strongly condemned the murderous attack on the son of the senior leader of the party, Sardar Latif Khosa, and demanded that the accused of the murderous attack on Balkh Sher Khosa should be brought to justice. Nair Bukhari has prayed for the speedy recovery of Balkh Sher Khosa.
