Coventry University and the Institute of Business Administration, Pakistan seek to enhance postgraduate learning 

Karachi, January 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Coventry University and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, a public university in Pakistan, have made steps towards developing new teaching programmes at both institutions. The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining aims to use their international knowledge and expertise to create a unique learning journey for master’s students and Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) in engineering.

Led by Professor Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Professor Elena Gaura, Institute Director of Data Science and Emerging Technologies, the initiative will seek to embed overseas placement opportunities through visiting PGR programmes and the opportunity for dual awards.

A key part of IBA’s mission is to ‘undertake original research that enriches teaching which benefits business, government and civil society’. S and P Global Sponsors Mega Coding Competition at LUMS

Lahore, January 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), held a two-day technology event in collaboration with Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers bracket (IEEE) Society, titled CodinGuru 5.0. in partnership with S and P Global Pakistan. This competition aimed to improve the tech quotient of the students and encourage ambitious and skilled coders to enhance their abilities.

Senior Director Commercial S and P Global, Shafqaat H. Shah, addressed the audience and said, “At S and P Global, we not only deploy cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), virtual reality (VR), data science, and analytics in our products to power the markets of the future, but we do so while being inclusive and equitable towards our people, clients, and the communities we operate in. The competition was planned across 3 segments: Programming, UI/UX, and WebApp Module. The participating teams developed innovative solutions for daily usage like delivery applications, climate change actions, and energy-saving appliances through different programming languages like C++, Java, and Python.

To further highlight the correlation of ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ (DEI) with innovation and creativity, a panel discussion was held focusing on the significance of inclusion in workplaces. Moderated by Campus Recruiter S and P Global, Hiba Khalid, it included Senior Director Commercial S and P Global, Shafqaat H. Shah, Director People S and P Global, Samia Qamar, and Founder Skills Todo, Ayesha Zaman. “A thriving, inventive workplace must aim to represent the society that it functions in.

LUMS has been organizing this mega-coding competition since 2018. This year, a total of 70 teams from different universities, mainly Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Punjab University College of Information Technology, FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, University of Engineering and Technology, Information Technology University, COMSATS, and Government College University Lahore participated in the event. The participants were given 24 hours to design a creative IT solution and customer-friendly interface for a contemporary real-world problem aligned with the given theme.

5-Days hands-on training on ‘Cheese Making’ complete at UVAS

Lahore, January 13, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) under the project of ‘Capacity Building of dairy farmers and industry stakeholders on milk value chain’ organised concluding ceremony of five days hands-on training on cheese making.

Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and Director General Research Livestock Department Dr Sajjad co-chaired the concluding ceremony of training and distributed certificates among participants while Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid and 25 participants/professionals from public and private sectors including dairy farmers, veterinary officers, dieticians and consultants were present.

During five days training experts imparted theoretical, practical knowledge, techniques and skills to participant regarding food safety management systems in dairy industry, introduction of cheese and role of pasteurization in cheese production, practical demonstration and production of soft, hard and artisan cheese, nutritional facts and health benefits of cheese, fostering entrepreneurship through business incubation, industry analysis, market strategy, promotion and advertisement of cheese variants etc.

Earlier, Prof Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik paid a visit to recently establish Genomic Centre of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad welcomed the delegate and briefed about the establishment of Genomic Centre in Parasitology Department under HEC Pakistan’s funding in GCF-273. Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Principal Investigator Prof Dr Imran Rashid and Dr Haroon Akbar were also present on the occasion. Prof Kauser visited the Genomic Centre of Parasitology and appreciated the team of Prof Imran working under the leadership of Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf.

The worthy speakers Abdullah Asjad (President of SICS), Tehreem Amir (Vice President of SICS), Aisha Sethi (General Secretary of SICS), and Abdullah Tariq (Executive Director) discussed quick and easy-to-implement techniques for enhancing the verbal and non-verbal aspects of presentations.

Acting President Chairs Meeting on Matters Pertaining to Upcoming Semester

Jumani was held here at the council hall of the new campus in which matters pertaining to timetable, issues related to transports, hiring of the visiting faculty for the upcoming semester, space for the classes and other related topics were discussed. The chair directed to expedite the efforts to prepare and implement the centralized timetable through the university’s Campus Management System and desired that he must be kept updated on the development in this regard.
