CSSPR, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung team up for research in security, foreign policy and regional issues

Lahore, January 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Center for Security, Strategy, and Policy Research (CSSPR) at the University of Lahore (UOL) is all set to pursue a collaborative research endeavour with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Pakistan. A MoU was recently signed between FES and CSSPR, as per the terms of which both parties will organise conferences, seminars, and symposia, as well as conduct data-driven research, with a view of giving policymakers input on important issues.

The MoU was signed by Dr Rabia Akhtar (Director, CSSPR) and Dr Niels Hegewisch (Country Director, FES Pakistan), which will help in bridging the gap between policy and practice. With their proven expertise in dissecting traditional and non-traditional security and foreign policy issues, CSSPR and FES Pakistan will launch and execute projects on regional connectivity, geo-economics, and other critical topics. The emphasis will be on analysing future trends, mapping risks, and identifying smart, cost-effective solutions to major problems.

CSSPR and FES will also focus on pressing issues like food security, water security, applications of new technologies, and the scourge of climate change. Also, this MoU will not only facilitate exchange between scholars and students but will also create opportunities for capacity-building.

Moreover, the said MoU will lead to the publication of research-oriented outputs like reports, books, and monographs. Both Dr Akhtar and Dr Hegewisch said this intellectual collaboration will advance the cause of the sound, research-rich policymaking in Pakistan.

This MoU is one of the many others CSSPR has signed and will sign going forward to expand UOL’s international footprint as one of the top research-intensive universities in Pakistan. With UOL committed to bringing about positive social change, initiatives like this will be extremely beneficial because they will allow best practices to be shared and implemented.

As a result of this cooperative arrangement, students across departments will gain a lot of exposure, which will be critical to channelling their energies towards research and, by extension, fulfilling one of the core values of the UOL.
