Pakistan name 20-player ODI squad for New Zealand series

Lahore, September 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Pakistan cricket selectors have named a 20-player squad for the three ICC Cricket World Cup Super League One-Day Internationals against New Zealand, which will be played in Rawalpindi on 17, 19 and 21 September.

Uncapped wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris, fast bowlers Mohammad Wasim and Shahnawaz Dahani, and wrist-spinner Zahid Mahmood have been named in the squad, while middle-order batters Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah have been recalled. Iftikhar’s seventh and last ODI was against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi, while Khushdil’s only ODI appearance was also in the tied match against Zimbabwe in Rawalpindi.

Players who were part of the ODI series against England in July but have failed to retain their places are Haris Sohail, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sohaib Maqsood.

Pakistan ODI squad:

Babar Azam (captain, Central Punjab), Abdullah Shafique (Central Punjab), Faheem Ashraf (Central Punjab), Fakhar Zaman (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Haris Rauf (Northern), Hasan Ali (Central Punjab), Iftikhar Ahmed (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Imam-ul-Haq (Balochistan), Khushdil Shah (Southern Punjab), Mohammad Haris (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Hasnain (Sindh), Mohammad Nawaz (Northern), Mohammad Rizwan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Mohammad Wasim Jnr (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Saud Shakeel (Sindh), Shadab Khan (Northern), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Shahnawaz Dahani (Sindh), Usman Qadir (Central Punjab) and Zahid Mahmood (Southern Punjab)

Chief selector Muhammad Wasim: “The series against New Zealand is extremely important for Pakistan as the matches are part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 qualification. While we have tried to put together a formidable and a balanced unit, we have continued to ensure that we give opportunities to high performing players while looking into the future so that we can develop a strong bench-strength.

“Shahnawaz Dahani was unfortunate to miss the selection for the England matches as the squad was announced before the start of the remaining 20 HBL PSL 6 matches. Hence, he was a straightforward selection when we sat to discuss and finalise the side for the New Zealand series. We have also given continued run to Mohammad Wasim, who impressed everyone in the T20Is against the West Indies.

“Zahid Mahmood has been added to support Shadab Khan and Usman Qadir. While picking him, we took into consideration that he had excelled last time he played in a white-ball match in Lahore against South Africa. Although this time the format will be different, but in domestic 50-over competitions he has shown through his performances that he has the temperament to also perform in ODIs.

“Mohammad Rizwan remains the first-choice wicketkeeper, as such, it has been decided to include 20-year-old Mohammad Haris in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed. This is not only to reward Haris for his outstanding domestic performances in the previous season, but also to give him a taste and flair of international cricket along with its rigours and demands and to ensure that we continue to groom young wicketkeepers who are fit and ready to step up when the opportunity presents itself.

“Middle-order has remained our concern and, as such, after trying a few options, we have decided to give another run to Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah, The two batters have played sufficient 50-over cricket at the domestic level and boast the required firepower to utilise the slog overs. We are optimistic they will come good in home conditions.

“I know a few players will feel disappointed at missing out on the selection but we have a busy season of cricket ahead, which means there will be ample opportunities down the line for everyone to put up strong performances and push their case for national selection.”

Under SRSO, 1.3 million families in Sindh have benefited: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

Ghotki, September 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PPP wants to see women in other parts of the country progress in the same way as the women of Thatta, Larkana and Ghotki. Every woman should be independent and standing on their feet. “I assure every Pakistani woman, Pakistan Peoples Party is with them, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is with them,” stated Chairman PPP.

Addressing a function organized by the Sindh Rural Support Organization in Ghotki, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that if anyone asked me which was the most popular program launched by the Sindh government, my answer would be the SRSO program’s, People’s Poverty Reduction Program. “This initiative is bringing a silent revolution across Sindh,” he said. Under SRSO, 1.3 million families in Sindh have benefited. Referring to the previous program under SRSO, he said, “My mother was taken away from me, but now all the women of Pakistan are like my mothers. I will serve them in the same way that a son treats his mother.”

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that whether it was the rule of Quaid-e-Awam, the government of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the government under the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari, or the current government of Sindh – the first priority of the PPP has always been to fight poverty. We want to see the progress of the poor people of this country. “Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto has taught us that if a woman progresses, then the whole house will progress, the whole village, the whole district, the whole province and the whole country will develop,” he said. That is why Mard-e-Hur started a revolutionary program like the Benazir Income Support Program. Under the Benazir Income Support Program, a woman is provided with financial, employment, educational and health assistance.

Chairman PPP further said that Mian Sahib in his time started putting his picture on the card of Benazir Income Support Program, and during Khan Sahib’s time the name of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was removed from the card. “By doing this he thought he will erase the memory of Shaheed Bibi from peoples heart, this was a grave mistake on Imran Khan’s part,” declared Chairman PPP.

He further said that those who have been chanting ‘Ehsaas Ehsaas’ nowadays, do not realize how much the people of the country are suffering. “Your historic inflation has caused the people to drown in a tsunami of inflation,” stated Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “Khan Sahib has also started the program, but intellect is needed even to copy someone else’s work.”

Furthermore, he said that when PPP forms the government, they will run these programs better. He said that Imran Khan was still giving scholarships under the Ehsaas program, but no one told him that he has no such thing as Ehsaas. “It’s not in the budget books, it’s not legislated, and the bank accounts are still run by the Benazir Income Support Program,” explained Chairman PPP. “The scholarship program kept today, is also a resource education program under the Benazir Income Support Program. You have not started anything new, you have only imitated the Pakistan People’s Party.”

Chairman PPP also said that European Union also cooperated after seeing success of the SRSO program of the provincial government. “Before the 2018 elections, I had told the Chief Minister that it was the promise of my manifesto that this program which is running in a few districts, would be extended to the entire province. And one day this program will run all over Pakistan,” stated Chairman PPP.

And one day this program will run all over Pakistan,” stated Chairman PPP. “Women must support the PPP if they want their lives changed.

Providing details regarding the SRSO program, he said that the program is currently running in 15 districts, and 1.3 million families are benefiting from it. Some are receiving interest free loans, others have been given 20,000 low-cast house units. Under this program, more than 6,000 people have been given health insurance. “More than 18,000 people have benefited from the Kitchen Garden project,” said Chairman PPP. “The Pakistan Peoples Party believes that when you make the poor economically stable, the whole economy will be stable. But other parties think you can run the economy by spending billions and trillions of rupees on the rich.”

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said, “The manifesto of Pakistan Peoples Party is the transfer of power to the lower level and we want women from all over Sindh to come forward in politics.” Emphasizing on the youth and women, Chairman PPP said that local elections were going to be held in the country soon, for which his party had announced reserved seats for women and the youth up to the level of Union Council. He also urged rural women to come forward and partake in the local elections.

Meanwhile, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during his visit, stopped by the residence of PPP District President Babar Lund in Ghotki. He also addressed thousands of jiyalas, and said that the next government will be of jiyalas, and the workers must intensify their struggle. “A protest campaign is being launched across Sindh,” declared Chairman PPP, “This puppet is nothing in front of the PPP cadres.” Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that the workers should work hard and success will follow in their footsteps.

New chapter of oppression was written on August 30-31 at D-Chowk: Khurram Nawaz Gandapur

Lahore, September 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, senior PAT leader, has said that there is democracy in a name only in Pakistan. He said that the oppressed and the poor have to face a strong reaction from the state institutions on their demand for justice. He said that the PAT workers were subjected to brutal and bloody treatment at D-Chowk during the intervening night of August 30 and 31 when they asked for justice in the Model Town tragedy.

He said that the Nawaz Sharif government liberally sprayed bullets at and shelled the peaceful workers, an inhuman and oppressive act that led to the martyrdom of many workers and causing serious injuries to dozens of them. He said that Imran Khan, the prime minister of today, was part of the protest and when the bullets were rained, he and his workers too were targeted. He said that it was the PAT workers who protected him, a fact he acknowledged in a television interview and thanked the PAT for saving him.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that the workers who got injured on that unfortunate night seven years ago still await justice. He said that the shells of the expired gas were thrown at the workers on the orders of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif and straight bullets were fired at them. He said that dozens of fake FIRs were registered, one of which was a so-called PTV attack case. He said that the Nawaz Sharif gang is instigating its workers to revolt and bring the national institutions into disrepute just to protect their corruption.

PAT leader said that the PAT workers rendered sacrifices in man and material against the oppression and brutality of the elite, adding that it was due to these sacrifices that Nawaz Sharif and his cohorts were exposed and humiliated. He said that the institutions should be so much strong and effective that no government is able to interfere in their basic function. He said that we want to see them develop so that the people do not have to take to the streets to demand justice.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that we pay our rich homage to the workers who bravely faced the government’s brutality on the intervening night of August 30 and 31. He said that we ask PM Imran Khan to withdraw the fake cases registered against the PAT workers during the PMLN government’s tenure.
