UVAS Observes World Down Syndrome Day with Awareness Walk and Seminar

Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, in collaboration with Lions Club International, commemorated World Down Syndrome Day with an awareness walk and seminar at its City Campus. The event aimed to enlighten the public on Down Syndrome, covering a wide array of topics including symptoms, risk factors, treatment challenges, diagnosis, causes, prevention, and available treatments.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the walk was led by Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I), with notable participation from Principal Officer Students Affairs Prof Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad, Izhar Ahmad, Dr. Basit Ramzan, and Director Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Dr. Tahir Mehmood Khan, alongside numerous faculty members and students. The procession commenced at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and concluded in front of the Main Lawn, following a circuit of the City Campus.

During the seminar, Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus underscored the importance of such events for disseminating knowledge about Down Syndrome prevention not just to raise awareness among the public but also to contribute to societal betterment. Guest speakers at the seminar provided an overview of Down Syndrome, delved into the physician’s perspective, and discussed developmental defects and child psychology, particularly in relation to Down Syndrome.

This observance of World Down Syndrome Day at UVAS highlights the institution’s commitment to community engagement and public health education, aiming to foster a more informed and empathetic society towards individuals with Down Syndrome.
