Kohlu: Voter registration in Kohlu stands at 29% of its estimated 2025 population, significantly trailing the national average of 54%, according to new statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The district, home to an estimated 277,839 people, has 81,927 registered voters, comprising 48,029 males and 33,898 females.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, these figures are based on district-wise electoral roll statistics and population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. Kohlu, ranking 123rd out of 136 districts by population size, shares a National Assembly constituency with four other districts. The voter registration rate places it 127th nationally and 28th within Balochistan.
Kohlu's voter registration rate is notably affected by a gender gap, with female voters making up only 41.4% of the registered electorate. This reflects a registration rate of 26% among females, compared to 33% among males. Unlike other regions where census effects explain registration gaps, Kohlu's disparity is attributed to genuine non-registration, with structural barriers like restricted mobility and lower female CNIC penetration contributing to the issue.
Efforts to address the registration gap include deploying mobile NADRA units and enhancing outreach through community networks to improve female voter registration before the next general elections.
