PTI Leader Condemns Sharp Increase in Solar Panel Prices as Economic Burden on Public

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi General Secretary Arsalan Khalid has criticized the significant rise in solar panel prices, describing the increase as an economic burden on the public. He expressed concern over the hike of up to Rs. 9,000 in solar panel prices ahead of the new fiscal year's budget, labeling it as economic harm to citizens who are already grappling with high electricity bills and load shedding.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khalid highlighted that solar energy has been the last affordable electricity option for many, but the government has increased prices significantly, allegedly to benefit solar market interests. He detailed the price changes, noting that a 585-watt solar panel, previously priced at Rs. 18,000, now costs Rs. 27,000. Similarly, the price of a 645-watt panel has risen from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 31,000, and the cost of a 720-watt panel has climbed from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 33,500.

Khalid also rejected the proposed increase in the GST on solar panels from 10% to 18% in the upcoming budget, arguing that such tax hikes on green energy are indicative of the government's disregard for public welfare. He committed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf would oppose the price hikes and proposed taxes in various forums to support the public.
