University of Sindh Awards Scholarships to MPhil and PhD Scholars Amid Integrity Checks

Jamshoro, The University of Sindh held a ceremony in the Senate Hall of the VC Secretariat to distribute scholarship checks to 27 MPhil and PhD scholars under the Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Scholarship program. The event highlighted the university’s rigorous selection process, which included the discovery and disqualification of 13 scholars who had misrepresented their employment status.

According to University of Sindh, Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro presided over the event, noting the university’s commitment to ensuring that scholarships are awarded to eligible candidates. Initially, the Sindh HEC allocated 40 scholarship slots. However, after application reviews and interviews, it was found that some candidates had not disclosed their employment status as required. The University responded by withholding scholarships from these individuals and reallocating them to fully qualified scholars.

During the ceremony, Dr. Kalhoro explained that the scholarship funds amounted to Rs 2 lakh 30 thousand per scholar, but fees and arrears were deducted first, enabling scholars to focus on their studies without financial concerns. The process of selecting these scholars was thorough, involving multiple stages of application scrutiny, eligibility confirmation, and interviews conducted by a scholarship committee. This committee’s recommendations were initially approved for 40 scholars, but subsequent verifications prompted the adjustment.

Also present at the event were several university officials, including the Director of Student Affairs, the Registrars of various campuses, and faculty deans, all underscoring the importance of transparency and integrity in the scholarship process.
