Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development meets Vice Chancellor of University of Turbat 

Turbat, February 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ms. Mahjabeen Sheeran, Parliamentary Secretary for Women Development visited the University of Turbat (UoT) on 10th February 2022 and called upon Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Turbat. They discussed the matters related to progress towards women empowerment without any discrimination and creating a women-friendly environment at educational institutions of Balochistan. Ms. Mahjabeen Sheeran appreciated the efforts of UoT for providing equal opportunities to females for growing and showcasing their talent in all fields of life.

Secretary Women Development and VC University of Turbat agreed for empowering women

Turbat, February 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Government of Baluchistan’s Secretary Women Development Department, Mr. Zafar Buledi called on Vice-Chancellor, University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad at its chamber in UoT here on 8th January 2022. They agreed that women’s empowerment is instrumental for a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Balochistan.

VC UoT briefed him about the facilities and opportunities provided to the female students for acquiring higher education at UoT in a peaceful and conducive environment. Secretary Women Development lauded the women enrollment ratio at UoT. Later on, Secretary Women Development along with UoT’s Registrar, Ganguzar Baloch visited different sections of the university and was inspired to see a healthy learning environment and outstanding infrastructure of the university.

QEC holds workshop on capacity building of newly inducted faculty members

Turbat, February 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Directorate of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) University of Turbat (UoT) organized a 4-day training workshop on capacity building of newly inducted faculty members from 1st to 4th February 2022 at the video conference room of UoT. The UoT’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad graced the opening and closing sessions of the workshop as chief guest.

On this occasion, VC Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad has said that his administration was working on a comprehensive plan to further enhance the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of the newly appointed faculty members and administrative staff in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed his expectation from the faculty members for taking over their responsibility of teaching and research and bringing this university to the pinnacle of its success. VC appreciated the remarkable efforts of the whole team of QEC and master trainers for conducting capacity-building sessions to uplift the academic delivery at UoT by applying modern teaching methods.

VC emphasized that besides understanding their role as teachers in view of contemporary requirements of the time, the participants should involve themselves in the activities of professional development for ensuring quality education at the university. Dr. Jan Muhammad also urged the Deans, Registrar, Directors, and heads of different sections to conduct awareness sessions on the university governance system, policies, rules and regulations, and working procedures of their respective sections and directorates.

Highlighting the objectives and achievements of the training workshop, Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director QEC thanked Vice-Chancellor, Deans, Registrar, Directors, HoDs, Master Trainers, and participants for their support in conducting this learning activity successfully. He said that qualified resource persons like Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq, Assistant Professor, Commerce Department, Chakar Hyder, Principal Staff Officer to Vice-Chancellor, and Qamber Ali, Lecturer Management Sciences Department were engaged in the workshop.

He appraised Vice Chancellor for revamping different sections of the university which are responsible for enhancing the quality standards of education and research works at UoT. Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan, Dean, Faculty of Legal Education, Dr. Wasim Barkat, Dean, Faculty of Economics, Commerce and Business Administration, Dr. Naeemullah, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Adeel Ahmed, Dean Academics, Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, Dr. Ghulam Jan, Director ORIC, Rehmatullah, Director Procurement, Shahbeek Syed, Director Finance, Ijaz Ahmed, Director Public Relations, Head of various academic and administrative departments and faculty members were also present on the occasion. At the end of the session, the Vice-Chancellor awarded certificates to all master trainers and trainees.

Federal Secretary for Planning and Development visits University of Turbat 

Turbat, January 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):Federal Secretary for Planning and Development, Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili has said that he was very happy to see the University of Turbat much better and more developed beyond his expectations. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held at the University of Turbat (UoT) on 27th January 2022 during his visit to UoT. Commissioner Mekran Division, Shabir Mengal, and Deputy Commissioner District Kech, Hussain Jan have also accompanied him.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mansoor Ahmed, Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dr. Naeemullah, Dean, Academics, Dr. Adeel Ahmed, Director Finance, Shahbek Syed, Director QEC, Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director Public Relations, Ijaz Ahmed, Project Director, Manzoor Ahmed, PSO to Vice-Chancellor, Chaker Hyder and heads of different academic and administrative departments attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Federal Secretary for Planning said that it was the era of technology and we should pay more focus on educating students in the field of information technology. Emphasizing on plantation and greenery of the university, the Federal Secretary assured for release of funds to complete the phase-II of the University of Turbat well in time.

He appreciated the efforts of faculty members and administrative staff under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad in bringing the University on a par with reputed institutions of higher learning of the country in a short span of time. He also assured to provide all-out support for the further development of the university including enhancing the digital connectivity of the varsity through optic fiber program.

In his welcome speech, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad highlighted the academic achievements and future requirements of the university. He thanked Federal Government and Planning Commission for paying special attention to phase-II of the University of Turbat. VC informed the Federal Secretary that “Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is going to start different free IT training and certification courses from the first week of February for fresh graduates and IT professionals at UoT; and PSEB also vowed to establish a software technology park at the University of Turbat.”

While giving a briefing on phase-II of the university, the Project Director, Manzoor Ahmed said that phase I of the university has successfully been completed and the work on phase II has been started at the cost of Rs. 1,456.14 (M). He added that phase II includes academic blocks, common facilities, student hostels, faculty and staff housing, bachelor faculty hostel, external development works, consultancy services, solar plant, lab equipment, furniture, transport, networking, automation, and other components. At the end of the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor presented a commemorative shield to the Secretary Planning. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor along with his team warmly welcomed the Federal Secretary on his arrival at university.

Software Technology Park would be set up at University of Turbat 

Turbat, January 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), an organization of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) will set up a Software Technology Park (STP) at the University of Turbat to provide state-of-the-art IT sector facilities along with uninterrupted high-speed internet services and training to the youth and IT professionals of the region under one roof. These views were expressed by Muhammad Akbar, Senior Manager of Software Technology at the MoITT, during an awareness seminar on Software IT Park.

The seminar was organized by PSEB in collaboration with the University of Turbat at Law College Turbat on 20th January 2022. Regional Manager, PSEB, Asmat Ullah, UoT’s Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, Dean Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr. Naeemullah, Director Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) Dr. Ghulam Jan, Chairperson, Computer Science Department, Mukhtar Hussain, Director Public Relations, Ijaz Ahmad, faculty members, students, and IT-related businessmen and professionals attended the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, Muhammad Akbar said that state-of-the-art infrastructure would be provided in the software IT park to be set up at the University of Turbat which will be very helpful in promoting IT-related business activities in this part of the country. Besides creating employment opportunities, this IT Park will enable a large number of youths including women to start earning as freelancers using their skills through the internet, instead of relying on government jobs.

“Private IT companies and professionals of the area will be provided space, modern facilities, training, and guidance to enhance their business at IT Park. The purpose of setting up Software Technology Park in remote areas of Balochistan under the Software Technology Park Project is to provide better IT facilities to the youth of Balochistan.” Muhammad Akbar underscored, adding that the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Turbat, Prof. Dr. Jan Mohammad was a visionary leader and under his leadership, the University has made great progress in a short span of time.

Meanwhile, an interactive session was also organized where the participants asked questions and got information from the speakers about the ongoing training, certificate courses, and internship programs under the MoITT. On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Registrar Ganguzar Baloch, and Director ORIC, Dr. Ghulam Jan thanked the representatives of PSEB for organizing an awareness seminar on STP at the University of Turbat and assured all possible assistance for the capacity building of the youth in IT sector. They said that the plans of PSEB for establishing STP at UoT and providing high-speed internet connectivity in remote areas of Balochistan were commendable. In the end, the Registrar and Dean Dr. Naeemullah presented shields to the guests on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Haneef ur Rehman joined back University of Turbat after completing Postdoc from UK

Turbat, January 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman, Associate Professor joined back University of Turbat (UoT) after completing the HEC postdoctoral fellowship program at Cambridge Graphene Center (CGC), University of Cambridge, UK. He worked on the production of graphene-based enzymatic biofuel cells. He achieved the project objectives and produced good results which are very interesting and publishable in the journal of international repute.

He built up strong collaboration and network with CGC University of Cambridge teams. Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman also facilitated several candidates for obtaining host acceptance letters to apply for the next HEC postdoc fellowship program from the University of Cambridge, Oxford University, and Imperial College London through his strong network with these organizations during the project. He also designed a collaborative project with CGC, the University of Cambridge for the HEC local challenge fund which has been submitted for consideration.
