Lahore to Host Inaugural CM Punjab Pink Games for Female Athletes

Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to inaugurate the first CM Punjab Pink Games on May 2, as announced by Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar. The games, aimed at promoting women’s sports, will run until May 5 and feature 1,300 female athletes from 19 universities across Punjab.

According to Sports Board Punjab, the announcement was made during a logo unveiling ceremony at the National Hockey Stadium, which was attended by notable figures including Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial and other officials. The event will host competitions across seven sports disciplines, including badminton, table tennis, archery, basketball, athletics, hockey, and cricket (tape ball).

Minister Khokhar emphasized the significant prize money of Rs 50 lakh that will be awarded to participants, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering a competitive spirit among female athletes. He also assured that all athletes would receive top-notch facilities, playing kits, and allowances.

Further initiatives include the selection of the top 100 performers from the Pink Games for advanced training to compete in inter-provincial games. The minister also outlined plans for more inclusive sporting events such as the Punjab League and Punjab Games, which will feature tiered competitions from local to provincial levels.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has prioritized women’s sports, marking a shift from past practices where female athletes received less emphasis. This event is part of a broader strategy to enhance the sports culture in Punjab, particularly for women, by providing more opportunities and resources.
