Karachi, In a pointed critique of Pakistan’s economic strategy, Iqbal Hashmi, the General Secretary of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized that true economic development remains unattainable without implementing revolutionary reforms. Hashmi highlighted the country’s dire need for a consistent and enduring industrial policy, noting the failures of previous governments to establish such guidelines.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Hashmi criticized the recurrent pattern of governments making expansive claims of economic progress without taking concrete actions to curb wasteful expenditures or to devise an economic policy that genuinely serves the public’s interest. He dismissed the notion that appointing finance ministers with dual citizenship could be a panacea for Pakistan’s economic challenges.
Hashmi pointed out the disparity between the lives of the elite and the general public, suggesting that if government officials used public transportation, they would gain a better understanding of the common citizen’s daily struggles. He urged for a shift away from grandiose declarations towards meaningful, productive actions.
The statement released by Pasban Press Information Cell underscored the urgency of industrial development as a means of survival for Pakistan, categorizing any negligence in this matter as equivalent to treason. Hashmi argued that with a population of 250 million, most industries within the country have the potential to be lucrative, lamenting the lack of focus on secondary and tertiary industries from policy makers.
To embark on the path to Industry 4.0, Hashmi stressed the importance of concentrating on mechanical, electrical, and electronics industries first. He called for the abolition of bureaucracy and the permit policy, insisting that development cannot occur without establishing a robust legal, order, and justice system in the country.
This declaration from the PDP General Secretary casts a spotlight on the essential reforms needed for Pakistan to catch up with global industrial standards and ensure the prosperity of its citizens.
