Lahore, Dr. Daniyal Nagi, an internal medicine specialist, has donated one million rupees to Government College University Lahore to establish a scholarship and a gold medal commemorating his father, Anees Nagi, a distinguished writer and critic. The scholarship will support a postgraduate student in Urdu, while the Anees Nagi Medal will honor the top MPhil Urdu Literature student annually.
According to Government College University, the donation was presented during a ceremony at the university campus, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Shazia Bashir and members of the faculty in attendance, along with Anees Nagi’s daughter. Dr. Nagi called on fellow alumni to support the initiative, highlighting the importance of aiding current students.
Prof. Bashir expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it would contribute to a perpetual scholarship and medal in Anees Nagi’s name through the University’s Endowment Fund, ensuring ongoing recognition of academic excellence in Urdu literature.
