Cancellation of Lease for Benazir Bhutto Named Tennis Club Stirs Controversy in Islamabad

Islamabad, Senator Farhatullah Babar, President of the Human Rights Cell of the Pakistan Peoples Party, has condemned the cancellation of the lease for a tennis club named after Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, labeling it an egregious act.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) revoked the lease of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Tennis Club, which has hosted international and national tournaments over the past decade. The cancellation occurred on Friday, and subsequent actions included the alleged vandalism of the club’s grounds on Embassy Road and the tearing up of a stay order from the Islamabad High Court by CDA staff. Senator Babar described these actions as an attack on the legacy of the late Benazir Bhutto, associating them with broader motives of prejudice and animosity towards the former Prime Minister.
