Lahore: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore marked World Veterinary Day, focusing on the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” to raise awareness about animal welfare and highlight the contributions of veterinarians to public health. The event, held at the City Campus, sought to acknowledge the essential work of veterinarians within communities and among stakeholders.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the event was led by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Masood Rabbani, with participation from Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science/Principal Officer Students Affairs Prof Dr. Kamran Ashraf, faculty members, and students from the Special Animals & Veterinary Emergency Relief Society (SAVERS) and Vet Crescent Societies. Similar activities took place across other campuses to observe the day.
The day’s activities included a walk from the Vice-Chancellor’s office to the UVAS Outdoor Hospital, where Prof Dr. Masood Rabbani inaugurated a free veterinary camp, cut a celebratory cake, and signed a pledge. In his address, Dr. Rabbani highlighted the importance of animals in the ecosystem and the noble purpose veterinarians serve. He encouraged students to acquire practical skills and announced plans to develop the university’s Ravi Campus Pattoki into a tourist hub, offering educational visits to students from schools and colleges, with the aim of attracting them to pursue higher education at UVAS.
