ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Islamabad to discuss strengthening Pakistan-Canada relations. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, parliamentary engagement, and expanding partnerships in various sectors including trade, investment, and education.

According to Senate of Pakistan, Chairman Gilani congratulated Minister Anand on her career and leadership in advancing Pakistan-Canada relations. He emphasized the historical friendship between the two nations and noted the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations celebrated in 2022. Discussions included potential areas for growth in trade and investment, as well as ongoing efforts in healthcare and education.

Chairman Gilani highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and proposed increased collaboration between the Parliamentary Friendship Groups of both countries. He also reiterated Pakistan's commitment to addressing global challenges such as climate change and terrorism through international cooperation.

The meeting also addressed economic cooperation, with Chairman Gilani encouraging Canadian investment in Pakistan's emerging sectors. He welcomed negotiations for the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, aimed at creating a favorable environment for investors.

Acknowledging the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Canada, Chairman Gilani emphasized strengthening people-to-people contacts through educational and cultural exchanges. He also reiterated Pakistan's position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, calling for a peaceful resolution in line with UN resolutions.

Chairman Gilani expressed confidence that Minister Anand's visit would open new avenues for cooperation, contributing to peace and sustainable development for both nations.
