Karachi: Pasban Democratic Party Chairman Altaf Shakoor has called for the implementation of the smart city concept in Sindh’s secondary cities, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Nawabshah, and Mirpurkhas.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, the initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for citizens, offering economic and environmental benefits. Shakoor emphasized the need for provincial and federal governments to allocate special funds for these cities’ rapid development and prioritize the completion of pending development projects.
Shakoor highlighted the necessity of completing the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project and developing Gorakh Hills to improve amenities for tourists and local residents. He stressed that secondary cities possess unique social, economic, and political cultures and are emerging centers of economic activity that alleviate migration pressure on larger cities. Shakoor noted that smart city status would significantly enhance transportation systems, traffic management, and public service efficiency, providing equal access to resources such as transportation, internet, and employment. Smart city technology could also aid authorities in reducing crime rates.
