Pakistan Targets Top Standings in World Test Championship with Home Series Advantage

Rawalpindi: Pakistan is strategically positioning itself for a significant rise in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Standings, currently holding fifth place. With a series of home games on the horizon, including two crucial Tests against Bangladesh, the team is optimistic about leveraging its home field to climb higher in the rankings.

According to International Cricket Council, Pakistan’s Test captain, Shan Masood, expressed the team’s determination to maximize their home advantage in the upcoming matches. Pakistan, which has nine Tests remaining in the championship, sees a clear path to potentially reaching the top two in the standings if they win all their remaining matches. This achievement would nearly guarantee their spot in the WTC final with a point percentage of 77.38%.

The team’s schedule includes home series against Bangladesh, England, and West Indies, along with tours to South Africa. Each match represents a pivotal opportunity to gather points and improve their standing. The recent coaching appointments, including Jason Gillespie as head coach and Tim Nielsen as red-ball high-performance coach, have infused the squad with fresh strategies and optimism.

Pakistan’s campaign against Bangladesh begins on August 21 in Rawalpindi, with Saud Shakeel stepping in as the new Test vice-captain, promising a dynamic approach to the upcoming series.
