University of Sindh Highlights Importance of Aquatic Food Resources on World Food Day

Jamshoro, 17 Oct 2023:The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, hosted an event in observance of World Food Day. Chaired by Prof. Dr. Khalid Hussain Lashari, the occasion underscored the potential of aquatic food resources in addressing food scarcity.

Dr. Lashari emphasized the life-sustaining nature of water and its significance as a food source. He asserted that students, as the department’s representatives, have the responsibility to educate the public about water’s bounties.

Prof. Dr. Anila Naz Soomro advocated for the consumption of small fish to combat Sindh’s rising food shortage. She also prompted students to embrace advanced fisheries technology for a diversified fish yield. The University of Sindh provided this information.

With 70% of the globe being water, Dr. Panhil Khan Lashari accentuated its role as a primary food source. Dr. Brady Wariani reminded attendees of their duty to safeguard water from pollution and contamination.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus Leghari emphasized the crucial role of water resources in ensuring food sufficiency. He called for widespread campaigns against hunger, underscoring the need to protect the Indus River from pollution. A significant number of educators, scholars, water experts, and students attended the event, echoing the shared commitment to responsible water and food management.
