Jamshoro, 17 Oct 2023:The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, commemorated World Food Day 2023 on Monday, focusing on the profound theme, “Water is Life, Water is Food. Leave No One Behind.”
Presided over by the head of the department, Professor Dr. Khalid Hussain Lashari, the gathering shed light on the indispensable role of water in life and food security. Dr. Lashari encouraged students to act as ambassadors, spreading knowledge about the value of water.
Prof. Dr. Anila Naz Soomro championed the consumption of small fish species to address the increasing malnutrition issues in Sindh. Additionally, she motivated students to delve into contemporary fisheries technology to expand fish by-product varieties. The University of Sindh provided this information.
Dr. Punhal Khan Lashari pointed out that water covers 70% of Earth’s surface, underlining its crucial role in the global food chain. Dr. Baradi Waryani emphasized the necessity of maintaining pollution-free water sources in resonance with this year’s theme.
Event moderator, Dr. Muhammad Younis Laghari, accentuated the importance of water resources for global food security. He called for collective efforts to counteract hunger by fostering awareness and supporting related initiatives, stressing the conservation of the Indus River.
The event witnessed the participation of faculty, staff, stakeholders, and researchers, all dedicated to the promotion of food security and judicious water management.
