Dr Akram book published

Lahore, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Department of Mathematics newly appointed Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Akram called on Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood and presented his newly published book ‘Multi-Criteria Decision Making Methods with Bipolar Fuzzy Sets’ to him. The monograph discusses the theoretical and practical development of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM). The main purpose of MCDM is the construction of systematized strategies for the Optimization of feasible options, as well as the justification of why some alternatives can be declared optimal.

Dr Khalid Mahmood congratulated Dr Akram for publishing such a wonderful book. He appraised that Dr Akram’s 10 books have been published by reputed international publishers in the field of Fuzzy Mathematics. He said that this book is a valuable resource for researchers, computer scientists and social scientists alike.

PUFCIT organizes PUCon’23

Lahore, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): Punjab University Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) organized national programming competition ‘PUCon’23’ at its premises. PUCon’23 entailed five competitive programming events such as Speed Programming, Web Hackathon, Mobile App Development, Game Design, Artificial Intelligence and Capture the Flag (CTF) and two E-gaming events that are Takken and FIFA. There were around two-hundred teams consisted of five-hundred-plus participants from various higher education institutes (HEIs) of Pakistan. In the competitive programming competition, PUFCIT secured 1st and 3rd positions whereas Information Technology University (ITU) grabbed the 2nd place from the top.

In Web Hackathon, ITU secured 1st and FCIT secured runner up position. In Mobile App Development FCIT has secured both winner and runner-up positions. In Artificial Intelligence FCIT has secured 1st place whereas FAST has secured 2nd position. In the Game Design collaborative team of LGS and FCIT has secured 1st and Lahore Garrison University has secured 2nd position. FAST, Air University and UET Lahore bagged first, second and third positions respectively in the cyber-security event ‘Capture the Flag (CTP)’.

In his address, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood lauded the efforts of the organizing team and stressed that quality graduates would help Pakistan in attaining higher levels of IT sector exports. He urges the continuity of such technology-oriented events with the technical and financial support of our software industry. The chief organizer and secretary of PUCon’23, Prof Dr Engr Shahzad Sarwar and Mr Abdul Mateen, thanked all the participants, Google Developer Student Club, event judges and sponsors from the software industry, faculty members of FCIT, and the PU VC for their everlasting support in organizing the programming competition.

Society of Engineering Excellence Conference (SEECON’23) Held at IEECE

Lahore, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): Society of Engineering Excellence arranged SEECON’23 at IEECE, University of the Punjab Lahore. Dr. Umar Farooq, Patron SEE, was the Chief Organizer of the event while Prof. Dr. Muhammad Azhar Naeem, President ASA and Director IEECE, was the chief guest of the event. Mr. Raheel Anjum, Staff IEECE, and Miss Hania Fatima, Secretary SEE, along with volunteers Noman Javaid and Haseeb Safrdar performed management duties. A total of 5 competitions were held on various dates between April 17 and May 17, 2023.

These include circuit design, speed wiring, technical paper, MATLAB programming and Simulink control design contests. A total of 70 students participated in the contests. Dr. Umar Farooq spent several hours in training the students to participate in these contests. Technical paper contest was judged by Engr. Muhammad Arif Anwar. All other competitions were time-based i.e. students completing the tasks in minimum time were declared as winners. Dr. Umar Farooq checked the completeness of the tasks.

In circuit design contest, students were required to solve the given problem in prescribed amount of time and implement the solution using least number of hardware components. Umair Ali was declared as winner of the contest. In speed wiring contest, students were given a block diagram of a circuit with sufficient details for speedy hardware implementation. Umair Ali bagged first position in this contest. Second place was secured by Moeen Abbas while Syed Zulqarnain received third place. In MATLAB programming contest, students were given an algorithm with all steps and some mathematical details. They were required to implement the given algorithm in MATLAB programming environment. Syed Zulqarnain grabbed first award in this contest.

In technical paper contest, students were required to submit a technical paper to present 2 solutions to the assigned tracking control problem. After the submission process, students were required to present their findings in 3mins using PPT slides followed by questions from the judge. A total of 20 papers were submitted for this competition. Winners were selected based on their performance in the writing and presentation tasks. Saad Ullah Bhatti secured first place. Ali Tahir received second place while Fazeela Irshad grabbed third place.

In Simulink control design contest, students were given a trajectory tracking problem with details on the plant and controller dynamics. They were required to implement the problem using Simulink environment in a prescribed amount of time. Saad Ullah Bhatti secured first place, while Muhammad Faiz Raza received second place. Third award was grabbed by Abdulelah.

In the end, Chief Guest distributed awards and certificates to the winners, judge, and organizers while Dr. Kashif Samee and Engr. Ayesha Jaffer distributed certificates to the participants of SEECON’23. In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Azhar Naeem stressed the need of co-curricular activities and motivated the students to participate in these activities. He also congratulated Patron SEE and team to organize SEECON’23. Dr. Umar Farooq briefed the history of SEE and shared success stories of SEE members, who were trained by Dr. Umar Farooq to participate in various national and international IEEE/IET/ACM/ASME technical contests and earned fame for PU by winning over 75 awards in these contests a period of four years only (2008-12). Engr Ayesha Jaffar congratulated the winners and shared her views on the need of organizing co-curricular activities in addition to extra-curricular activities.

PU entry test registration to continue till June 9

Lahore, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): The students aspiring for admissions in undergraduate programs at Punjab University can register themselves till June, 9 2023, according to a press release here on Tuesday. As many as 7 different exams will be conducted for all undergraduate programs. In his statement to the media, the VC Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the PU Undergraduate entrance test will be conducted in important cities of the country. He said that entry test is mandatory for undergraduate admissions in PU for which thousands of students have registered so far.

He said that for admissions in Punjab University, 25% marks are reserved for written entrance test while candidates can refer to www.pu.edu.pk for eligibility criteria and other details. According to the details, PU-E test will be for pre-engineering discipline, PU-M test for pre-medical discipline, PU-AHS test for Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines, PU-CSP test for ICS with Physics combination, PU-CSS test for ICS with Statistics discipline, PU-GS test for General Science discipline and PU-COM test for Commerce discipline will be conducted.

Multidomain engagements with Afghanistan are crucial to address humanitarian concerns

Islamabad, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): To address the humanitarian issue in Afghanistan, the Pakistani government and policymakers need to set a substantial emphasis on forging relationships and establishing various engagements with the present Afghan Taliban leadership. The views were shared by Ambassador Abrar Hussain, vice-chairman IPS and former Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan, during a consultative meeting on ‘Intra-Islamic Dialogue for Stable Afghanistan,’ organized by the International Research Council for Religious Affairs (IRCRA) on May 27, 2023, in Islamabad.

The meeting was also addressed by Maulana Yousaf Shah, spokesperson Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khatak, Jalaluddin, advocate of Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam, Muhammad Israr Madani, president IRCRA, Maulana Tayyeb Tahiri, president Ishat-ul-Tauheed, Pakistan, Mufti Shaukat Ullah Khatak, Darul Uloom Haqqania, Malik Habib Noor Orakzai, ex-Fata tribal leader, Reema Shaukat, Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad, Asif Luqman Qazi, head of foreign affairs Jamat Islami, Tahir Khan, journalist, Dr Mahan Mirza, director Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion, Notre Dame University, USA, Professor Laurie Nathan, director, Kroc Institute’s mediation program, and others.

Ambassador Abrar stressed that interaction and building relations with the present Afghan Taliban administration must be made a top priority by policymakers and decision makers. He further said that if Pakistan wants to solve Afghanistan’s humanitarian concerns, it is crucial to understand and comprehend the needs and requirements of Afghanistan as it stands right now. He also suggested engaging in some form of economic cooperation, commerce, and investment. It is worth noting that the majority of Afghan leadership is generally in favor of equality and equal access to education, therefore all the other delicate topics, including the education of girls and inclusive government, may be dealt with gradually.

Awareness walk organized by Islamia University of Bahawalpur on the occasion of World Environment Day 2023

Bahawalpur, June 06, 2023 (PPI-OT): Bahawalpur (PR): Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has said that the planet is our home and it is our responsibility to pass it on to the future generations in a safe manner. The Vice-Chancellor expressed these views on the occasion of the awareness walk organized by Institute of Agro Industry and Environment the Islamia University of Bahawalpur on World Environment Day. He said that every year on this day, the United Nations raises awareness for the protection of the environment by celebrating the World Environment Day so that measures can be taken for the survival of the natural environment.

The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is to eliminate plastic pollution. Individual and collective efforts are needed for the preservation and survival of life on earth. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has formed an Inter-University Consortium for Conservation and Survival. The purpose of this consortium is to unite the experts and resources of national and international universities to protect the environment so that this big challenge can be effectively faced. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob has received this honor for leading universities around the world for the survival and protection of the environment.

On this occasion, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain, Registrar Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil, Chairman Department of Plant Pathology Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naveed Aslam Mulghani, Chairman Institute of Agro Industry and Environment Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi, senior faculty members, alumni and students were present. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain said that food and fruits produced in the natural environment are better than genetically produced products. Improper use is the main cause of natural disasters.

On this occasion, Dr. Ghulam Hassan Abbasi said that all members of the society should take steps for the growth and protection of animals, birds, plants and trees in the national interest. Due to global warming, the rainfall rate in Pakistan is decreasing significantly. Emissions of greenhouse gases from vehicles, factories, and deforestation are increasing, resulting in changes in the biological balance of Pakistan’s agricultural system. Due to various types of pollution, the organisms in the air, land and sea are under threat.
