Shaheen in top-five, Hasan on a career high 11th and Abid vaults into top-20 for first time

Lahore, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Abid Ali have achieved career-high rankings following match-winning performances in the first Test against Bangladesh, which Pakistan won by eight wickets.

Shaheen recorded figures of two for 70 and five for 32, and has been rewarded with a jump of three places that has now put him in fifth position behind Pat Cummins (Australia), Ravichandran Ashwin (India), Tim Southee (New Zealand) and Josh Hazlewood (Australia).

From the Chattogram Test, Shaheen collected 27 points that have lifted him from 783 points to 810 points. In reaching the 800-point mark, Shaheen has become the 11th Pakistan bowler to break the 800-point barrier. Other Pakistan bowlers to enter the 800-point mark are: Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Fazal Mahmood, Yasir Shah, Shoaib Akhtar, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Abbas, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Ahmed and Mohammad Asif.

Hasan Ali, who had figures of five for 51 and two for 52, has vaulted five places to 11th in the latest ICC Rankings for Test Bowlers.

Hasan Ali has leapfrogged Stuart Broad (England), Kemar Roach (West Indies), Mitchell Starc (Australia), Jason Holder (West Indies) and Trent Boult (New Zealand). Hasan now sits on 755 points and will aim to collect eight more points from the Dhaka Test to break into the top-1o for the first time in his career.

Opener Abid has vaulted into the top-20 for the first time in his career after his 133 and 91 has lifted him from 47th to 20th.

From the Chattogram Test, Abid has earned 111 points making him the second Pakistan batters after captain Babar Azam (eighth, down by one) to feature inside the top-2o. Pakistan batters outside the top-20 are Mohammad Rizwan (21st, down by three), Azhar Ali (22nd, down by one) and Fawad Alam (27th, down by seven).

Abdullah Shafique, who scored 52 and 73 on his debut, has entered the ICC rankings in 83rd position and is expected to make a further upward movement if he manages to repeat his performances in the second Test, which commences on Saturday.

Joe Root of England is the No.1 ranked batter and is followed by Steve Smith (Australia), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Marnus Labuschagne (Australia) and Rohit Sharma (India).

Dengue Awareness Seminar at UET 

Lahore, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Anti-Dengue Task Force, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore organized an awareness seminar at UET Chemical Seminar Hall. The purpose of this seminar was to aware the students, teachers and faculty members regarding Dengue virus, fever, its symptoms, types and treatment. Chief Medical Officer UET Health Clinic Dr. Shahzad was the guest speaker. Addressing the participants Dr. Shahzad gave an overview of dengue virus, its prevention and elimination required to combat the disease.

He said, “It is our responsibility to keep our homes and places clean, avoid from water accumulation in plants and herbs in the lawn, also wear full sleeves to avoid dengue mosquitoes and keep windows close in homes and offices.” He emphasized on the use of mosquito nets, mosquito coils, liquids and Mospel while sleeping on terrace. Convener Anti-Dengue Task Force Prof. Dr. Anwar Latif, Senior Warden Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq, In-charge Day Care Centre/Hostel Warden, Zohra Hall Dr. Rehana, Chairman Mining Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Shahab Saqib, and large number of students and faculty members attended the seminar.

One-day career counselling workshop at Sindh University motivates CSS aspirants to work hard 

Jamshoro, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):A one-day career counselling workshop on “Civil Services Reforms and CSS Examination” in collaboration with Center for Research and Social Development (CRSD) and Sports and Youth Affairs Department (SYAD) of Government of Sindh was held at Pakistan Study Center, University of Sindh Jamshoro here on Wednesday.

Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bhangwar in his motivational speech said that failure of the candidates in various competitive examinations took place only due to not studying properly. “Passing the CSS exams is not a difficult task. The thing to do is just to get preparation in the right direction”, he said and added that the competitive examination was not as difficult as it was supposed to be.

“CSS papers need to be solved with proper understanding and technique. The candidates should have a deep understanding of the issues”, he said. AC Bhangwar informed the youth about his journey to becoming an officer and his present role in the government. He also gave some imperative tips to the aspirants of CSS and apprised them of the modus operandi as to how to solve the question papers in the exams.

Another CSP Ashique Hussain Khoso delivered his lecture on how to prepare CSS and solve question papers. He said that it was necessary for the candidate to have a complete understanding of the causes and effects of various incidents and issues in order to pass the CSS exams.

He said that during the preparation of CSS, most of the youngsters were seen studying with unnecessary details and irrelevant aspects, due to which they do not succeed in the competitive examinations. “Nowadays while preparing for competitive exams, candidates should rely on electronic media too and they should plan their studies with fewer than three principles including read, repeat, and retain.

On the occasion, Director Pakistan Study Center Prof. Dr. Shuja Ahmed Mahesar welcomed the guests and described their speeches as informative for the youth. The event was attended by more than 100 CSS candidates from the University of Sindh (SU), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro. President links development of country with university-industry collaboration 

Jamshoro, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has said that there will be no development in the country without bridging the gap between universities and industries while the government and society should also be taken on board. He said that the role of youth was very important for the progress of Pakistan and the well-being of the people; therefore, they would be given more educational opportunities to help them complete their higher education.

This he said while addressing through video link at a ceremony organized in Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro to seek ideas from the students for the solution of different problems and challenges posed to the country here on Tuesday.

The president linked the sustainable development of the country with universities-industries collaborations and emphasized that such an event could be important for solving the problems at local level in Pakistan adding that the students enrolled at different institutions including the University of Sindh were being awarded scholarships so that they might seek higher education hassle-free.

The founder of National Idea Bank (NIB) Hassan Syed urged the youths to improve their careers by joining the Technology Incubation Center working at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Sindh. He said that it was all a matter of business ideas for success in the world and much money could be earned by presenting successful business ideas on various issues.

Vice-Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Javed Anwar welcomed all the youth present at the event and appreciated their ideas. He said that students could play a key role for the development and progress of Pakistan. Director Hyderabad Institute of Arts, Science and Technology (HIAST) Col. (Rtd) Muhammad Khalid said that he was proud to be a part of the program, because he got an opportunity to know the ideas given by the youth.

“I am impressed by the ideas. I can now say that there is no dearth of talent at SU”, he said and added that such activities were significant to bring the biggest change in the society. Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman Khombati said that the activity organized by the Technology Incubation Center was vital for the students, where innovative ideas can be expressed, shared and solutions to the challenging problems could be explained.

Dr. Arifa Bhutto shared details about the practices and achievements of National Idea Bank Hyderabad. “We have more than 14,000 registered students,” he said and said that TIC will prepare more students for the challenges being faced by the country in terms of unemployment and joblessness. Earlier, a competition was held for the students to present business ideas for the solution of various problems, in which the students offered the best ideas for the solution of the tribulations. The top three students were awarded cash prizes.

Ideologist Program Manager Shahzana Memon. Dr. Kamran Taj Pathan and many others were present on the occasion. At the end of the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were distributed among the young people who presented successful business ideas. The event was attended by heads of various departments of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Teachers and students.

Islamabad, December 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 2 in 4 (51%) Pakistanis feel that living in a joint family set-up after getting married is not an issue.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the four provinces was asked the following question, “Do you think living in a joint family set-up after getting married is not an issue?” In response to this question, 51% said yes and 47% said no. 2% did not know or provided no response.

2021 IYFSD Global Call for Creative Works: Entries Themed “My Beautiful Hometown”

NANJING, China, Dec. 1, 2021 /Xinhua-AsiaNet/ The 2021 IYF Special Dialogue in Nanjing is now launching a call for entries themed as “My Beautiful Hometown”. As a great opportunity for young people along the silk roads to present the charm of their hometowns to a global audience, it is an ideal platform for them to share their thoughts, stories, and actions on youth leadership in innovation and creativity. The IYFSD is also a treasured occasion to inspire more youth actions and leadership for a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient shared future for all, according to Nanjing Literature Centre.

All participants are kindly requested to create a piece of original writing, art creation, or video work speaking for their hometowns, cities or regions, like cultural heritages, unique landmarks, local customs, culinary traditions, or featured handicrafts, with a writing piece of any genre, no more than 150 words in English (or 200 words in Chinese). It is open to all the young population aged between 18 and 45 from countries or regions along the silk roads.

Based on the panel selection, certificates will be awarded to ten winners for Outstanding Creation, three for Third Prize, two for Second Prize, and one for First Prize, and all participants with eligible submissions will receive Certificates of Recognition. The submission means that the organizers are granted the non-exclusive rights to use, publish, reproduce, distribute, communicate or make available to the public the creative pieces, and the entrants hereby consent that the work will be used for non-profit educational or public information uses.

In return, a remuneration of 3,000 yuan will be awarded to the First Prize winner, while 2,000 yuan to each Second Prize, 1,200 yuan to each Third Prize, and 600 yuan to each Outstanding Creation. Please be noted that all the prizes are tax-inclusive. The results will be announced on the online sharing session which will be held on 17th December, 2021.
