Bahawalpur, November 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):A sports gala was organized by the Department of Pakistan Studies, Faculty of Arts. The ceremony was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jameel, Registrar and Prof. Dr. Aftab Hussain Gilani, Chairman, Department of Pakistan Studies. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naveed Aslam Mulghani, Dr. Rubina Yasmin and all the distinguished faculty members of the Department of Pakistan Studies were present in the ceremony.

All the students of the Department of Pakistan Studies actively participated in various sports including Cricket, Tug of War, Badminton, 100m Race, Musical Chairs and many others. Prof. Dr. Aftab Hussain Gilani and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Naveed Aslam Mulghani along with all the faculty members of the Department of Pakistan Studies distributed the shields to the winners and appreciated their participation for organizing a wonderful and wholesome extra-curricular activity. An awareness session organized by CCPC for History students

Bahawalpur, November 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):Career counselling is very important in the life of students to determine the right career direction. It helps students develop their skills according to their interest. These views were expressed by Shahid Afzal Durrani, Director Career Counselling and Placement Centre, Islamia University of Bahawalpur while addressing an awareness session organized for history students. The session was organized by the Career Counselling and Placement Center in association with the Department of History.

Speaking on the occasion, Resource Person Shahid Afzal Durrani informed the audience about the aims and objectives of the Career Counselling and Placement Center and its important initiatives. He emphasized that all students should focus on communication, presentation, leadership and time management skills in their life management skills.

Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Deputy Director Career Counselling and Placement Center welcomed the participants of the event. He commented that choosing the right career is an important and life-changing decision in a student’s life.

First International Conference on Climate Change organized by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur 

Bahawalpur, November 29, 2022 (PPI-OT):The First International Conference on Climate Change organized by Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has started at Baghdad ul Jadeed Campus. In the inaugural session, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, University of Sahiwal Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar, Vice Chancellor Sindh Madrasah ut Islam Karachi Prof. Dr. Mujeebuddin Sehrai Memon, Vice Chancellor University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Prof Dr. Moazzam Jamil and Director Institute of Agro Industry and Environment Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi spoke. Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said in his address that climate change is a global problem and to deal with it and its long-term solution, it has to be part of our values.

Climate change is actually a problem of human survival and its solution requires individual and collective efforts. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, raised the issue of climate change at the global level in the recent international conference and climate diplomacy was emphasized. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has started from home to this challenge on the principle of solving local problems in a global context. Three years ago, looking at the same challenges, the new core values of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Tolerance, Honesty, Eco-Friendly, Innovative, Understanding and Beneficial were formulated and made a part of the university policy.

Under the Green Campus campaign, making university campuses environment-friendly and minimizing the use of water, food and other consumables and preventing wastage is a part of this campaign and a large team of university faculty members are trying to implement it. The Institute of Agro-Industry and Environment has been established to ensure environment-friendly initiatives while developing agriculture and agro-based industry. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur is the first university in Pakistan where the Inter-University Consortium for Climate Change has been established in which more than 80 universities and institutions are affiliated.

The Governor of Punjab, Engr. Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman under his patronage realized the usefulness and importance of this consortium and made it a key consortium of universities of Punjab and now the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is leading universities across Punjab for climate change and sustainable environment and survival. Scientists of the Cholistan Institute of Desert Studies are working on the indigenous flora of Cholistan and their survival to make the region safe and sustainable. The university has promoted renewable energy through a 2.5 MW solar plant, which will soon be expanded to 1 MW.

A center was set up with the support of South Punjab Secretariat to observe and monitor Air Quality Index of Bahawalpur. Cooperation with the Punjab government is ongoing on the project of special agro-economic zone in Cholistan through rain increase system, which will bring 6 million hectares of land under cultivation and increase the agricultural economy of the country by 10 billion dollars annually. Similarly, the university has introduced a compulsory course in Agriculture and Environment at BS level to make students aware of this important challenge and research has been encouraged at MS and PhD level.

He said that the temperature of Bahawalpur has increased by 1 degree centigrade in the last 40 years and it is expected to increase by another 1 degree centigrade, which has affected the climate cycle and the production of crops is also likely to be affected. Vice-Chancellor University of Sahiwal Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar said in his speech that the problem of climate change has created food security, drought and other terrible problems. 3.3 billion people of the world have been affected by it and 350 billion dollars in economic losses have been caused. Pakistan is one of the most affected by climate change in Asia.

To deal with this challenge, we have to minimize gas emissions and plant more trees. Vice-Chancellor Sindh Madrasah-ut-Islam Karachi Prof. Dr. Mujibuddin Sehrai Memon on organizing an international conference on this important topic, congratulations to Vice-Chancellor Eng. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob. He said that developed countries are responsible for climate change and they should compensate the loss of developing countries. Vice-Chancellor University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi said that the recent monsoon rains have caused huge loss of lives and property to Pakistan and a loss of 30 billion dollars.

Agriculture is the main component of our economy which is most affected by climate change. Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environment Prof. Dr. Moazzam Jamil thanked Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob for organizing the conference and appreciated the efforts of his team. Chairman Institute of Agro Industry and Environment, Dr. Ghulam Hasan Abbasi, also thanked the support of Vice Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Mahboob to hold the conference on this important topic.

Right to Information Awareness Seminar was organized by Punjab Information Commission in collaboration with the IUB 

Bahawalpur, November 28, 2022 (PPI-OT):Directorate of Public Relations, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Right to Information Awareness Seminar was organized by Punjab Information Commission in collaboration with the Islamia University of Bahawalpur at Ghulam Muhammad Ghotvi Hall Abbasia Campus. Raja Jahangir Anwar Commissioner Bahawalpur Division was Chief Guest while Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan District and Sessions Judge Bahawalpur and Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob were the guests of honour.

Chief Information Commissioner Mehboob Qadir Shah delivered a detailed talk on Right to Information Act on the invitation of Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. This program is part of the regular lecture series held at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur to educate civil society, teachers and students about human rights and rule of law.

Chief Information Commissioner Mehboob Qadir Shah while speaking on the topic of Right to Information is inevitable for good governance said that in a prosperous and ideal state citizens have full access to information and Punjab Information Commission is working diligently for this purpose. Access to information is a fundamental right of citizens to provide them with guidance on government institutions and their decisions, especially on the use of funds. Its aim is to establish a system based on transparency. Its second objective is to bring the performance of these institutions before the public eye by providing access to information.

On this occasion, Commissioner Bahawalur Raja Jahangir Anwar said that under the leadership of Chief Information Commissioner Mehboob Qadir Shah, Punjab Information Commission is playing the role of a bridge between common people and public sector organizations, which is a welcome development. Seminar organized by Punjab Information Commission in Bahawalpur is a great step for teachers and students. District and Sessions Judge Bahawalpur Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan said that they are working to digitalize the judicial system.

This process is also a part of the central idea of public access to government institutions and transparency, rule of law and Justice can be provided. Vice-Chancellor the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that as a higher education institution, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has played an important role in the access, provision and transmission of information. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur came into existence in 1925 under the vision of Nawab of Bahawalpur.

Currently, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur has become the largest university in the country in terms of the number of students in which the number of male and female students has reached 65 thousand. The Public Information Office in the University is cooperating with the Punjab Information Commission to provide information rapidly and the arrival of Chief Information Commissioner Mehboob Qadir Shah at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur is encouraging for us. IUB organized the 2nd international conference on the interrelationship of social sciences and applied psychology 

Bahawalpur, November 25, 2022 (PPI-OT):Department of Applied Psychology, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organized the 2nd international conference on the interrelationship of social sciences and applied psychology at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus.

The theme of this year’s conference was Mental Health for All, Social Goals, Challenges and Sustainable Solutions. More than 100 delegates from various educational institutions and universities of Malaysia, Great Britain, Philippines and Pakistan participated in the conference.

While inaugurating the conference, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob said that due to the increase in problems related to psychology at the global level, the process of moving towards their scientific solution has accelerated. Universities play a key role in solving the psychological problems faced by today’s generation.

In these circumstances, the organizing an international conference by the Department of Applied Psychology the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and bringing domestic and foreign delegates together on one platform is a good initiative.

Practical support from University-based Enabling Center and Departments of Psychiatry, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan was appreciated.

Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, said that more than 34 domestic and foreign experts will deliver keynote speeches on multifaceted topics related to psychology in the conference.

The recommendations of this conference will be conveyed to the policy makers and decision-making bodies so that steps can be taken for creating a peaceful and prosperous society. Conference Chair Prof. Dr Muhammad Saleem said that the Department of Applied Psychology is working on various projects along with teaching and high quality research.

This conference organized in collaboration with Punjab Higher Education Commission will prove to be a milestone for teachers and students on the subject of psychology. Papers will be presented in the conference on mental health, media psychology, impact of corona crisis, educational psychology and impact on parental psychology.

The guest of honor Mohsin Rafique, DIG Jail Khana Jat, and Prof. Dr. Niaz Maqsood, Head Department of Psychiatry, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, spoke on this occasion. Foreign delegates participated in the conference Prof. Dr. Christopher Lewis, UK, Prof. Dr. Joselito Binano, Philippines, Prof. Dr. Rozni Bin Ismail, Malaysia, Dr. Khan Muhammad Raziuddin Tawfeeq UK presented keynote speeches on important topics.

Their topics include mental health of students and youth, family relationships and professional responsibilities, digital world, mental health and society, negative effects of violence and exploitation of disadvantaged groups, role of educational institutions in students’ mental health.
