Students of Architecture Department visited WAPDA House, Lahore

Lahore, January 27, 2022 (PPI-OT): It is commonly believed that “Architecture is a visual art and the buildings speak for themselves”. Field trips and visits to significant buildings play a vital role in educating an architect, as it allows students to experience space through their own movement, their senses and in a real environment. The architectural experience that the students gain helps them to develop ability of architectural appreciation. In order to gain the sensory experience, the Department of Architecture arranged a visit of the students of “WAPDA HOUSE”, Lahore designed by the American Edward Durell Stone on 16 -12-21.

This study tour was arranged by the Assistant Professor Quratulain Asghar in order to educate the students about the contribution made by foreign architects to the Architecture of Lahore. The building is located at the junction of historical Charing Cross, Mall Road and reflects amalgamation of contemporary and vernacular architecture.

The students were welcomed by the Chief Engineer, Fawad Saeed and thoroughly briefed about the structure and design of building along with the completed and upcoming projects by WAPDA. At the end, he presented a memento as a token of remembrance to Assistant Professor, Quratulain Asghar. This confined educational tour of a timeless building nonetheless opened up the new dimensions of Architecture to the students.
