Senate adopts resolution to express solidarity with Kashmiris

Islamabad, February 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Senate adopted a resolution reiterating its support to the people of Kashmir in the just struggle of their inalienable right to self-determination, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet on Friday.

Following are key observations of the proceedings during the 14th sitting of 317th session:

Members’ Participation

The Senate met for two hours and 30 minutes.

The sitting started 10:35 am against the scheduled time of 10:30 am.

The chairman presided over the proceedings for an hour and 58 minutes while the remaining sitting was chaired by a member of panel of presiding officers.

The deputy chairman was not present.

The leader of the house was present for two hours.

The opposition leader attended the entire sitting.

As many as 21 lawmakers (21%) were present at the outset and 16 (16%) at the adjournment of sitting.

The parliamentary leaders of PTI, PML-N, JUI-F, JI, PkMAP, NP, ANP, PML and MQMP attended the sitting.

Two out of four minority lawmakers were present.

Tabled by the Minister of state for parliamentary affairs, the House adopted a resolution reiterating its support to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in the just struggle of their inalienable right to self-determination,

Representation and Responsiveness

Seventeen lawmakers discussed the current situation in IIOJK on the eve of Kashmir Solidarity Day and demanded the international community to take notice of India’s belligerence, intransigence and persistence of cruelty against the Kashmiri people.

The House adopted a resolution to suspend the question hour and discuss the Indian brutalities in Kashmir.

The House was adjourned to meet again on Monday, February 7, 2022 at 03:30 pm.
