Previous governments obstructed the development of Rescue-1122, it is a pity that the current government also ignored it: Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, October 15, 2021 (PPI-OT):Acting Governor Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi while addressing a function held on the 17th anniversary of Rescue 1122 Service said that his relationship with Rescue Service and Rescuers is not about politics but about the heart, when the heart stops beating, the rest of the body does not work. He said that he would personally talk to the CM Punjab to restore the Rescue 1122 allowance which was abolished by the previous government.

Ch Parvez Elahi said that previous governments had obstructed the development of Rescue 1122, but despite all opposition, previous governments could not abolish this institution, it is a pity that the present government also ignored this institution. Ch Parvez Elahi said that 17 years ago I also faced a similar emergency on which I felt helpless and thought of creating a service in Pakistan that would serve humanity beyond politics on which the whole nation today is proud of.

The academy we set up for the professional training of Punjab rescuers not only trained more than 20,000 emergency professionals across the country but also the Pakistan Rescue Team of the Emergency Services Academy to become the first certified disaster response team from the United Nations in South Asia which is also a place of honour and pride for every Pakistani. Today I would like to congratulate the Pakistan Rescue Team and each and every member of the United Nations on receiving certification from the United Nations.

He said that the Emergency Services Amendment Act 2021 was passed to solve the problems of the rescue service which helped in fulfilling the long standing desire of the rescuers for a service structure. He said that the Act would be amended to provide the same facilities to the martyrs of Rescue 1122 as would be provided to the martyrs of the Army.

He said that the seed which I had sown for humanitarian service in the form of Rescue 1122 in October 2004 has now become a fertile tree and not only Punjab but also other provinces are benefiting from its shade. The Punjab Emergency Service Act was passed unanimously by the Punjab Assembly. “After the success of the Lahore Rescue Service, we have expanded its reach to all major cities,” he said.

Whenever I see any emergency vehicle of Rescue 1122, my heart feels calm and contented. I thank Allah Almighty a thousand times that Allah has made me do this work. There are thousands of people in my circle of influence who appreciate the performance of the rescue service and their timely arrival. Ch Parvez Elahi said that Alhamdulillah Rescue Service has so far rescued more than 9.9 million emergency victims and the Fire Rescue Service has saved the losses of over Rs. 511 billion with their timely response and professional firefighting skills.

On this occasion, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Director General, Punjab Emergency Services, thanked Ch Parvez Elahi and said that he has tried his best to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to him by the people 17 years ago. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Speaker and Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti played an important role in passing service structure act to Rescue 1122, for which all Rescue 1122 personnel pay homage to him. Secretary Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti, DG Parliamentary Affairs Inayatullah Luk, GM Sikandar, former Secretary Health Sohail Ahmed and others also attended the function.
