Sialkot, August 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) launched its First Innovation Center of NUST (ICON) on August 29, 2022 at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Defense along with Dr. Rizwan Riaz Pro Rector (RIC) NUST and Mr. Imran Akbar, President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) inaugurated the Center. The concept behind this initiative is to strengthen and foster Industry-Academia linkages and serve as a bridge between industries and academia through the chambers acting as focal points of contact. This ICON project was the initiative of Innovation and Commercialization office NUST.
This center will be self-sustainable and will facilitate the role of chambers and support them in enabling their members to grow and work together with research experts to find solutions to real-world problems. In addition, this Centre will provide an opportunity to faculty members and researchers to showcase their technologies and will encourage them to commercialize their products.
Addressing at the occasion, Mr Khawaja Muhammad Asif commended the efforts of NUST towards developing close liaison with the industry and eventually paving the way for sustainable socioeconomic growth of the country. He stressed the need for taking such initiatives to bridge the gap between industry and academia, and in doing so, develop indigenous solutions to current and impending problems. Dr. Rizwan Riaz Pro Rector NUST expressed deep gratitude to all industry partners in supporting academia-based research and innovation and outlined various avenues for collaboration with NUST.
