Liaquat Baloch Advocates for Supreme Judicial Council Involvement Over Inquiry Commission

Lahore, Liaquat Baloch, the Acting Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has advocated for the Supreme Judicial Council’s involvement in addressing judicial concerns, criticizing the formation of an inquiry commission as ineffective and biased.

According to Jamaat-E-Islami Pakistan, Baloch expressed approval of former Chief Justice Tasadeq Jilani’s decision to decline leading the inquiry commission, arguing that such a body, formed post-consultation with the Prime Minister and Chief Justice, would not yield credible results. He emphasized that the Supreme Judicial Council, having been directly appealed to in a letter from six judges, should be the primary body to consider these matters, highlighting that the Council was overlooked in the Cabinet’s terms of reference for the commission.

Baloch also underscored the significance of maintaining judicial independence and the protection of judges, urging that these should be upheld through established judicial mechanisms rather than experimental approaches. He stated that Jamaat-e-Islami would not seek the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s resignation at this juncture, focusing instead on addressing the judiciary’s autonomy through its own systems.

Moreover, Baloch addressed the broader national issues, highlighting economic crises and political instability. He criticized the handling of the February 8, 2024 elections, labeling them as flawed and predicting ongoing repercussions. Baloch called for political solutions, led by national leadership, to navigate the country through its current challenges, including political and economic crises. He committed Jamaat-e-Islami’s support for constitutional and democratic processes aimed at resolving these crises and stressed the importance of safeguarding electoral integrity and judicial impartiality.
