Economic Crisis and Mismanagement Alleged by Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s Liaquat Baloch

Lahore, Liaquat Baloch, the Acting Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, criticized the current government for worsening economic conditions, including skyrocketing inflation and the risk of increased poverty. Baloch condemned the policies of PML-N and PPP, accusing them of breaking pre-election promises to alleviate financial hardships for Pakistanis.

According to Jamaat-E-Islami Pakistan, Liaquat Baloch highlighted the severe economic issues facing Pakistan, with an anticipated need for $120 billion in external debt over the next five years to manage national expenditures. This figure represents a significant increase from current foreign exchange reserves, suggesting a looming default crisis. Baloch pointed out the failure of the government to curb unnecessary expenditure and to widen the tax net as primary causes of the economic downturn. He also criticized the government’s reliance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF), arguing that it led to oppressive loan conditions impacting the general populace.

Furthermore, Baloch accused the PML-N and PPP of reneging on their electoral promises to reduce inflation and unemployment, alleging that these parties have resorted to measures that further strain the country’s economy. He mentioned corruption allegations related to the sale of Walton Airport and criticized the government’s approach to privatization and tax imposition on small businesses.

Additionally, Baloch expressed concern over attempts to undermine the judiciary, referencing incidents where threatening letters were sent to judges, urging the Prime Minister to protect judicial independence rather than politicize the issue.

In conclusion, Baloch called for the government to honor its election promises, suggesting that relief for the common man could only come from reducing unnecessary state expenditure, fostering economic growth, and ensuring fair taxation and business opportunities.
