Lahore, July 13, 2022 (PPI-OT):The term sustainability refers to the preservation of current resources in a way that they are not depleted before future generations can get a chance to utilize them. The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), originally put forward by the United Nations in 2015, aim to act as a universal call to action to promote sustainable growth in all aspects; people, planet, and profit.
International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD), in collaboration with UNESCO, plans to influence people to realize the significance of the four basic sciences on the road to sustainable development. The four basic sciences, namely mathematics; physics; chemistry; biology, will always remain the fundamental building blocks of any scientific progress in the world. And without scientific progress, there can be no sustainable development.
IYBSSD aims to act as a contingent catalyst for people to contemplate the impact of basic sciences on every worldly process even today. Some key issues IYBSSD will address include increasing participation and quality in the field of science by promoting investments towards these causes and encouraging the concept of open science the world over.
